Chapter 781 Who are you fooling?
Nathaniel's lips pressed into a thin line. He couldn't quite put his feelings into words at that moment. The Saskia he knew would easily ditch their relationship for money.
Benjamin had done a paternity test, and there was no relation at all. Now, Saskia had gone to such lengths for Nathaniel. Was this a sudden pang of conscience?
Thinking of this, Nathaniel didn't want to dwell on it. "Your grandmother is innocent. Don't worry. I'll help you sort out her situation."
"Thanks," Herschel said, bowing his head in gratitude.
Nathaniel nodded and walked past him. As he left, Jade pulled up to pick him up.
"Who did you find to get me out so quickly?" Nathaniel asked, recalling Herschel's words.
Jade hadn't forgotten her deal with Saskia, but if she pinned everything on Amy, Amy would be clueless, and there were records that couldn't be hidden. So she decided to come clean.
"I don't know where Saskia got the recording from," Jade said coldly. "But she gave it to me and made a deal. Her son got into some trouble and was arrested."
Everything matched what Herschel had said. Nathaniel didn't speak, his lips pressed into a tight line.
Jade noticed his expression and immediately scolded him. "You need to cut off your feelings for Saskia. I can overlook the mess you've made, but you have to follow my instructions. You need to marry Amy by the end of next month."
Jade didn't accept Saskia, and she certainly wouldn't accept Azalea. Moreover, Nathaniel was still using his old name with Azalea. Nathaniel had never been sincere, so why should Jade take it seriously?
Even though Nathaniel had no feelings for Azalea, he wasn't about to obediently follow orders. "Amy is the one you like," he retorted coldly.
"So what if I like her? At least her family background is good!" Jade snapped, furious. Saskia was someone Nathaniel found himself, but a girl like that was not respectable enough. The main issue was that she had once abandoned Nathaniel for money. Such a person could never stay by Nathaniel's side.
Nathaniel closed his eyes, clearly not wanting to argue with Jade anymore. Seeing this, Jade gave up. She dragged Nathaniel back home. After a shower and a change of clothes, Nathaniel was ready to go out again.
Jade blocked his way and threw his dirty clothes into the trash right in front of him. "Nathaniel, some people and things are just trash to you. Trash belongs in the trash can. Don't be stubborn; it won't do you any good."
Jade was referring to Saskia and Azalea. Nathaniel was also irritated and didn't want to mention those right now. He wanted to go out.
He said, "I'm going to find Oscar and the others. Please, stop bringing up Saskia. We're done."
Jade didn't believe him. If they were really done, why would he use the name George to get close to Azalea and reconnect with Saskia?
Yet Jade didn't want to be too harsh. "You better sort this out today." With that, she stepped aside.Nathaniel didn't say a word and just walked out without looking back. He wasn't heading to see Saskia or Azalea. He had plans to meet up with Oscar and the gang.
At the hottest club in Willow Creek, Oscar was on the phone, Harold was busy texting, and James and Quincy were already hitting the drinks.
Nathaniel was annoyed. "You guys finally come out, and this is what you do? Aren't you tired?"
He took a big gulp of his drink, but all he could think about was Saskia.
Harold was sprawled out on the sofa. "Tired? Nah, man. You have no idea how good this feels."
"I used to think love was a hassle, but now I get it. It's amazing," Harold said, looking all content. After everything he and Desiree had been through, traveling the world together, he realized nothing beat having her by his side.
Nathaniel stayed quiet, but James shot Harold a look. "Harold, listen to yourself. Is that really something a person would say? But then again, considering how long you've been tagging along with Oscar, it must've been tough!"
Harold just shrugged. "What's tough about it? I used to think work was everything, so I put love on the back burner. Now, I think the people around me matter more."
James laughed. "Look at you two! I can't imagine if you had a kid, you'd be like Oscar, showing off your kids every day!"
Oscar used to be all serious. Pearl had been his secretary for years, and they had been married for a long time. Oscar could keep it a secret, but now he was constantly posting about his daughter and son on social media. The captions and high-def photos made it seem like he was afraid people wouldn't know he had kids!
Harold longed for that kind of life. "If you have kids, why not show them off? You and Quincy should hurry up. Are you going to wait until you're fifty to fall in love?" he said.
James had plenty of beautiful women around him, but none stayed. Quincy was always working, dealing with patients. As for Nathaniel, his ex-girlfriend had come back!
Nathaniel wanted to drink and chat with them, but the more they talked, the more frustrated he got. None of what they said had anything to do with him!
"Seeing you drinking alone, what's up? Are you thinking about getting back with Saskia?" James said, sitting down next to Nathaniel. Nathaniel stayed silent. To James, silence meant agreement.
James chuckled. "If you still have feelings for Saskia, then go get her back."
Nathaniel hadn't forgotten Saskia's situation. He said coldly, "She has a kid now."
James was unfazed. "So what? If you truly love her, a kid doesn't matter."
True love could overcome anything.
Nathaniel didn't respond. He had no interest in raising someone else's kid. Besides, Saskia had hurt and betrayed him deeply. How could he be with her again?
Noticing Nathaniel's frustration, James shook his head. "You're just lying to yourself. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be this upset. Nathaniel, who are you fooling?"
Nathaniel did care. But every time he did, his rational mind told him he couldn't.
