Chapter 773 Realization After the Fact

Saskia's heart was racing, worried Nathaniel might let something slip.

As soon as the call connected, Azalea put it on speaker.

There was silence on the other end, just Nathaniel's faint breathing.

"George, where are you?" Azalea asked, unable to wait any longer.

Nathaniel's voice came through, clearly slurred. "I'm at the bar. Can you come get me?"

"I'm on my way!" Azalea said, hanging up and rushing upstairs to change.

She missed what Nathaniel said next: "Sassy."

That was his nickname for Saskia.

When they were together, Nathaniel loved calling her that. It was the first time she'd heard it since they broke up.

She froze.

Luckily, Azalea left quickly. If she'd heard that, she would've been furious.

Saskia picked up the phone and hung up.

A few minutes later, Azalea came back down, throwing a casual jacket over her pajamas. "Saskia, come with me to get George. I can't carry him alone; he's really drunk. Otherwise, he wouldn't have called you by mistake."

Saskia really didn't want to go.

But Azalea rarely asked for anything, and this was the first time. Refusing would seem heartless.

Under Azalea's urging, Saskia reluctantly agreed, and they took a cab to the bar.

When they arrived, Nathaniel was already passed out on the table, surrounded by empty bottles.

"Oh my God, how much did he drink?" Azalea was heartbroken at the sight.

Nathaniel was pushing himself too hard for work, drinking so much without regard for his health.

Azalea rushed over to help him. "George, I'm here to take you home."

"Get away." Nathaniel lifted his head.

Seeing it was Azalea, he pushed her hand away.

He didn't want Azalea right now; he wanted Saskia.

Azalea was stunned, unable to believe it. "George, it's me! Your fiancée!"

Yet Nathaniel remained unresponsive.

Their relationship was just a facade. If he hadn't been unable to forget Saskia and didn't want to be strangers with her, he wouldn't have gotten involved with Azalea in the first place.

"George!" Azalea was on the verge of tears.

She never drank and didn't know what it felt like to be drunk. Could it really make one so confused that one couldn't recognize the person closest to one?

At that time, Nathaniel looked up at Saskia, reaching out to grab her.

"Azalea, let's just get him home. We can deal with this in the morning when he's sober." Saskia took Nathaniel's hand and called Azalea over to help.

Together, they managed to get Nathaniel on his feet.

As they walked out, the waitress smiled at Nathaniel and said, "Mr. Egan, we look forward to seeing you again."

Nathaniel ignored her, and Azalea didn't notice that the "Mr. Egan" she mentioned was her beloved fiancé, George.

At the door, Saskia pulled out her phone to call a ride.

In the next moment, Nathaniel wrapped his arm around her waist, pressing himself against her back, making them look like a couple.Azalea's face changed.

Even if she was slow to catch on, she knew something was off now.

She could brush off the phone call as a mistake, but what about now? Was George confusing her with someone else, or was he revealing his true feelings while drunk?

Did he have feelings for Saskia?

The thought shocked Azalea.

"You've got the wrong person. I'm not Azalea." Saskia quickly pushed Nathaniel towards Azalea.

Nathaniel's face showed his displeasure.

He wanted to hold Saskia, not Azalea.

He grumbled, "Why are you pushing me away?"

"George, you've got the wrong person. I'm your fiancée." Azalea couldn't take it anymore.

She walked over, grabbed Nathaniel's hand, and placed it on her waist. She exclaimed, "I know Saskia and I look somewhat alike, but you can't keep mixing us up!"

She usually wouldn't say much about it, but what he just did was really too much. Yet Nathaniel tried to push her away again.

Just then, the cab arrived. Saskia opened the front passenger door and got in.

Seeing this, Nathaniel staggered towards the cab, and Azalea hurried to open the back door for him.

Once inside, Nathaniel leaned back and fell asleep immediately.

Azalea didn't have the heart to wake him, so she decided to let him sleep until they got home. She struggled to help him upstairs alone.

Saskia, feeling guilty, followed silently behind.

Azalea finally managed to get Nathaniel onto the couch. She turned to Saskia and said, "I'll stay here and look after George. Thanks for coming with me tonight. You should go upstairs and rest."

As sisters, Saskia could tell she was being dismissed.

"Alright, you get some rest too." Saskia didn't argue and went to her room, closing the door behind her.

Now it was just Azalea and Nathaniel in the living room.

Azalea had been a bit upset, but the smell of alcohol on him made her feelings dissipate. She said, "I told you, I don't need all that money. I want us to be together. If you drink like this again, I won't let you come back."

She didn't want the father of her child to be a drunk.

Nathaniel was fast asleep, oblivious to everything.

In his dream, he was back four years ago. Unlike reality, this time Saskia didn't take the money and leave.

She refused the check and stood firmly by his side.

Their relationship grew stronger, leading to marriage and a beautiful child.

A smile crept onto his face, filled with happiness.

Azalea returned with a hangover remedy, gently shaking him. "George, wake up and take this, then you can go back to sleep."

"Baby," Nathaniel murmured softly.

Azalea blushed, placing his hand on her stomach. "The baby is fine, and so are we. In a few months, you'll meet our child. I hope it's a girl. They say daughters look like their fathers. If she looks like you, she'll be beautiful."

Azalea kept talking until her mouth was dry. She finally grabbed a blanket, laid it on the floor, and slept beside Nathaniel.
