Chapter 333 She Doesn't Want to Drag Us Down

Barbara didn't say a word and just followed her.

She felt the warmth at the doorway and took in the cozy interior.

A faint fragrance filled the room.

Everything was neatly arranged.

It was clear Pearl enjoyed life.

Even in a small space, she lived elegantly. She was optimistic and faced life head-on.

Barbara watched her make tea, still feeling envious.

They had started with the same fate, but Pearl had broken free and found happiness.

Barbara longed for a normal life too.

"Have a seat," Pearl said, seeing her standing at the door, and invited her in politely.

Barbara nodded and sat by the sofa.

Pearl placed the freshly brewed tea on the table.

Barbara held the cup, feeling its warmth.

It had been ages since she experienced such elegance.

Despite her love for beauty and cherishing her pretty face, her life was rough.

She took a sip, enjoying the faint fragrance. She liked it.

"What kind of tea is this?"

"Just regular tea."

"It's really good," Barbara said.

"If you like it, take some with you," Pearl offered generously.

Barbara took a few more sips and set the cup down.

"The Donald you mentioned, is he the one from the bridge the other day?" Pearl asked. "Did he poison me? Why would he want to kill me like this?"

Barbara stared at her. "You've noticed, right? A lot of things are off."

Pearl's eyes shifted slightly. "They want to kill me. Is my life a threat to someone?"

"Exactly," Barbara said. "They're using your life to control someone else."

"Is the antidote with The Crimson Eclipse Society?" Pearl asked.

"The real threat isn't here," Barbara said seriously. "Even Donald, who raised us, isn't the scariest. The real danger is RavenWing, who made the poison, and only he knows the antidote."

Pearl felt a chill.

"Another person?" She hadn't even processed the previous info, and now there was someone new.

"What did you think? Even I haven't seen him, so I'm often forced into situations," Barbara said helplessly. If she didn't obey, she'd be the one to die.

Barbara once thought she and Jeffery were all each other had.

Now, meeting someone with a similar past stirred complex emotions.

The Crimson Eclipse Society warned her not to have feelings.

Even siblings could be a threat!

But she couldn't follow that rule.

So, she lived on the edge of the organization. Besides exploiting her, no one would care if she died.

"There were many people locked in the dark room, but you escaped," Barbara said to Pearl. "I really envy you. You can live a good life."

Pearl had no memory of those events.

She only remembered being kidnapped once. 'Is my memory faulty?'

"What about the others?"

"They're dead!"

These words hit Pearl like a ton of bricks.

Her hands trembled slightly. "Were they all young girls?"

Barbara said lightly, "Some were a few years old, some were teenagers. The living were exploited, and the dead had their organs harvested!"

Pearl's face turned pale.

"I don't know which one you were, but escaping means you're extraordinary!" Barbara said. "Jeffery did everything to protect you, so you can't die. That's his wish, and I'll help him fulfill it!"

Pearl clenched her fists, her eyes showing complex emotions before turning cold again. "Is that why you came today?"

Barbara replied, "I mean you should be careful. Now that you're pregnant, you need to take extra care."

"Are you done? Do you think I'll thank you for what you've done?" Pearl's cold words left Barbara stunned.

She didn't expect Pearl to react this way.

Pearl stared at Barbara with a cold smile. "Anyone can say nice things. Don't forget who poisoned me. Do you think I'll believe you?"

"I'm fed up with you and Jeffery. Even if we were together in the past, what does it prove? My hands are clean, but you are all tainted! We're not the same, and I won't be grateful to you. You and Jeffery should stay as far away from me as possible!"

Barbara's face changed. "I did this as a favor."

"I don't need your good intentions," Pearl said. "Leave now!"

Pearl pushed her out.

Barbara didn't even have time to react.

Standing outside the door, Barbara called out, "Carol!"

"Don't call me Carol!" Pearl shouted. "I'm Pearl, not Carol. Not just you, but Jeffery too. Don't call me Carol. If you had stayed away from me from the beginning, none of this would have happened."

Hearing this, Barbara felt hurt.

She couldn't persuade her.

If it weren't for that dose of poison, none of this would have happened.

Jeffery wouldn't have turned out this way.

All the blame should fall on her.

Barbara leaned against the door, sadness in her eyes. "Pearl, you're right. If it weren't for me, things wouldn't be like this."

At that moment, Pearl's eyes were red, and she slowly collapsed.

"I'll take responsibility for everything," Barbara continued. "I just hope you'll be kinder to Jeffery."

There was no response.

This made Barbara suspicious.

"Are you listening?" she asked again.

No response from the room made Barbara nervous. "Pearl!"

She knocked on the door.

Pearl had already collapsed, unconscious.

Barbara panicked, fearing for Pearl's safety.

She had no choice but to find Jeffery.

They pried open the door.

Barbara and Jeffery entered, seeing Pearl lying on the ground.

Jeffery quickly picked her up and placed her on the sofa. He took out a scalpel and made an incision on an old wound without hesitation.

Barbara couldn't bear to look and turned her head away, tears welling up.

She couldn't stand it.

But besides Jeffery, no one could save Pearl.

Pearl, weak and dazed, seemed to see someone beside her.

"Go away." These words slipped from Pearl's mouth.

Jeffery, having bled enough, looked pale and increasingly exhausted.

He felt dizzy and took a few steps back.

Barbara immediately supported him. "Are you okay?"

Jeffery took a moment to recover, his eyes fixed on Pearl. "Let's go."

"Aren't you staying to take care of her?" Barbara asked.

"She doesn't want to see us, so let's not disturb her," Jeffery said calmly.

Barbara, however, said, "What if she said that on purpose because she doesn't want to burden us?"
