Chapter 243 That Case

Haley stared at Mae, confused. "Who are you? Oscar, who is she? Who are all these people?"

Everyone froze.

Mae looked puzzled. "Haley, don't you remember me? I'm your assistant, Mae."

Haley shoved her away. "Get away from me! Oscar, I can't hear them! Come here, I'm scared!"

Magdalen was shocked. "First she goes deaf, now she has amnesia. If this were a soap opera, it'd be too much!"

Oscar walked over.

Haley clung to his sleeve like he was her lifeline, hiding behind him. "Oscar, who are they? Why are they staring at me? Make them leave, I'm scared."

"Everyone, out," Oscar ordered.

Magdalen, furious, snapped, "Oscar, are you really falling for this? Use your brain!"

"Out!" Oscar repeated.

Pearl, seeing Oscar protect Haley and Magdalen's anger, clenched her fists.

She stayed silent, feeling like an outsider with no right to intervene.

"Oscar, I raised you, and this is how you repay me? Don't regret losing your wife and me, your aunt!" Magdalen was angry.

Oscar didn't even glance at them.

Seeing his coldness, Magdalen grabbed Pearl's hand. "Pearl, let's go."

As they left, Oscar didn't follow, and Magdalen knew he was determined to stay.

Pearl said nothing, but Magdalen worried she was hurt. "Pearl, I won't meddle anymore. If you want a divorce, go ahead. I'll pretend I don't have this nephew!"

Pearl simply replied, "Even Oscar was not in the picture you'll always be my aunt!"

Chloe, overhearing their conversation, hid and learned of their relationship.

She was shocked. 'Pearl is really Oscar's wife! And they're getting a divorce? Is it because of Haley?'

She'd heard rumors about Haley and Oscar. Could Pearl be the one left behind?

This was big news; it was her chance to rise!

After they left, Haley weakly asked, "Who were they? Why were they so fierce? Oscar, I can't hear you. What's wrong with me? Am I deaf? Why am I like this?"

Oscar looked at her. "Do you really not remember?"

Haley watched his lips. "What are you saying?"

Oscar typed on his phone. [What do you remember?]

Haley said, "I remember us studying, being together, and then I went abroad. Oscar, I shouldn't have left you. I had no choice. I'll never leave you again!"

She hugged Oscar's waist, silently crying.

Oscar pulled her away. [That was many years ago.]

Haley read the words. "Many years? So, I'm back in the country?"

"Yes."

"How did I get back? I have no memory. Did I do something to upset everyone? Why does it feel like no one likes me?" Haley asked, terrified.

[Haley, no one hates you. Don't be afraid. You're already a big star!] the assistant typed for her.

Haley looked bewildered and surprised. "What have I missed? Why can't I hear? Do I have some kind of illness?"

"No," the assistant comforted her.

Oscar stood nearby, carefully watching Haley.

Every move she made was just like the old days, completely lost in amnesia.

He stared at her for a long time before typing on his phone. [There are a lot of reporters outside who want to interview you. Do you want to go?]

Haley shook her head. "No, I don't want to."

Waking up with amnesia, Haley had become a dignified victim.

Oscar knew the video was shot by her assistant, Mae.

When confronted, Mae stood her ground. "I posted the video. Haley was bullied, and no one stood up for her, so I let the internet decide. She has no one to protect her, but she has fans, and I'm one of them. Mr. Brown, if you want to punish someone, punish me. I did this, and there's no turning back!"

Oscar was firm. "Alright, you're fired!"

There was no room for negotiation. Mae, with tears in her eyes, looked at Haley one last time, still reluctant to leave, but Haley showed no emotion.

"Haley, I can't take care of you anymore. Take care of yourself, but if you need me, I'll come back."

Haley hid behind Oscar, completely ignoring Mae.

After Mae left, Haley looked at Oscar again. "I can't hear. Will you still want me? Can I still be with you?"

Her words were a plea, needing an answer from Oscar.

She was deaf and disabled; would he still be willing to be with her?

Oscar gazed into her eyes, pondered for a moment, and then wrote: [There are many reporters outside, it's not safe. I'll have someone pack your things, and we'll go to the villa.]

A smile appeared on Haley's face. "Oscar, I knew you wouldn't leave me."

"I'll have someone pack for you." Oscar then walked out.

As he left, Chloe sneaked in.

Haley was happy about the prospect of advancing her relationship with Oscar, but upon noticing someone, she raised her head alertly. "Who's there?"

Chloe took off her mask. "Ms. Garcia, it's me!"

Haley looked at her, and the wariness on her face disappeared.

Outside, Oscar was in the director's office. Finding it empty, he made a phone call.

"You want Haley to stay at Serenity Haven Estates. What are you thinking? Don't you want your wife anymore?" Nathaniel was shocked by the news over the phone.

Oscar replied, "I just said Haley is deaf and has amnesia. There's something off here."

Nathaniel thought for a moment. "Sure it is. She's clinging to you."

"I think it's more complicated than that."

Oscar's expression was serious as he asked, "Do you know why Haley went abroad back then?"

"How would I know? She was your childhood friend."Nathaniel fell into deep thought. Oscar wouldn't ask such a question without reason.

"If her deafness can't be cured, do you think it would have a big impact on her?"

Hearing this, Nathaniel suddenly realized. "Are you suggesting that someone is helping her behind the scenes?"

Oscar leaned against the wall, frowning slightly. "I don't rule out that possibility. From what I know of her, she wouldn't make such a big sacrifice for deafness. And I suspect Haley's going abroad and returning are related to that case!"
