Chapter 296 I Can Help You
Elijah saw Pearl and said, "Ms. Harris, why are you so late? I was about to look for you."
Pearl didn't mention meeting Jeffery and said, "I was talking with Harper and got delayed. Let's go."
Elijah nodded, but as Pearl got closer, he smelled blood.
He sniffed and asked, "Ms. Harris, are you hurt?"
"No," Pearl thought it might be from Jeffery and added, "Maybe it's from Oscar."
Elijah didn't press further but noticed a cross bracelet on her hand.
Pearl kept touching the bracelet as they walked, wondering why Jeffery wanted her to wear it.
Upon closer look, she saw a trace of blood inside the cross.
'Was it always like this?' Pearl was puzzled. She had many questions about Jeffery's past, and now there was another one. But she was sure Jeffery wouldn't harm her.
On the way, Emma called, "Pearl, Eileen's role got snatched."
Pearl was surprised. "Who took it? How did it happen?"
Emma said, "I don't know, but someone powerful is targeting her."
Pearl had the same thought. 'Eileen just gained some attention. With her talent, she should land a role. If someone powerful is behind this, it must be Haley.'
She checked it out.
Eileen was originally cast as the lead in a modern drama, now replaced by Isabella Hernandez, who used to play servant roles.
Seeing this, even Pearl was angry, let alone Emma.
'This was a covert insult to Eileen, saying she was now less than Isabella. How deep must the grudge be to humiliate her like this?' Pearl checked Isabella's company and found out she was with Oscar's company.
'So, was it related to Haley?' Pearl's expression changed multiple times.
She decided to call Eileen.
"Are you free? We need to talk face to face," Pearl said.
"Okay."
"I'll go to the coffee shop," Pearl said.
Elijah hesitated and whispered, "Ms. Harris, Oscar said to ensure your safety and escort you back."
Pearl thought about Isabella being with Oscar's company and related to Haley, wondering if she was being too biased.
However, Haley and Eileen were competitors, and she couldn't take out personal grievances on others.
"I'm meeting a friend," Pearl said. "I can't avoid my friends, right?"
Elijah sensed something was off with Pearl's mood.
He didn't say more but reported her whereabouts to Oscar.
When Pearl arrived, Eileen was already there.
Eileen took off her sunglasses and waved. "Pearl, over here."
Pearl walked over. Although Eileen seemed fine, her face looked a bit haggard. Pearl directly asked, "Your role got snatched?"
Eileen touched her earlobe and said, "Yes, but it's over now. I still have opportunities."
Pearl retorted, "You can't just let opportunities slip away. Someone is working against you. You can't yield. This is your chance to shine, and you need to seize it."
Eileen gave a bitter smile. "What else can I do? I don't have a sponsor or backing. I've realized that in this industry, hard work alone isn't enough."
Pearl looked at her with determination. "I can help you."
