Chapter 634 Their Real Thoughts
Tessa never thought Harold would be so stubborn.
But she laid it out for him. "Harold, if you were a parent, would you pick a successful person or an entrepreneur?"
"I'd go with the successful one. But Mrs. Sandvik, I still hope you'll give me a shot. I'm not useless." Harold sat up straight, his face showing pure determination.
Harold was a stand-up guy with real talent. He had this business vibe, almost like royalty.
After all, he was tight with Oscar.
But Harold wasn't Oscar. Oscar had the whole Brown Group behind him, and even Pearl's and Oscar's dads were big shots.
No matter how much Oscar liked Harold, Harold was still just an assistant.
Oscar would never hand over the Brown Group to Harold. Even if Harold started his own thing, he'd never go against Oscar.
Sandvik Corporation wanted to be the top dog in Willow Creek.
Harold didn't have the status or the skills to help them, so why would they want him as a son-in-law?
They couldn't just support Harold and hand everything over to him, letting him merge it all into the Brown Group.
Tessa didn't want to be harsh, but she had no choice.
She said coldly, "What else do you have to offer her besides love? Your salary at the Brown Group over the past few years? But our Desiree has lived in luxury her whole life, and the Sandvik Family's assets are way beyond yours. Harold, if you don't back off, we'll have to take tough measures."
Harold frowned deeply.
Being by Oscar's side for so many years, including the five years when Oscar was gone, he'd seen it all.
"Tough measures" meant breaking them up by force.
In the end, it would hurt Desiree and make everyone miserable.
But if he gave up now, wouldn't their relationship be too weak?
Harold still wanted to try and pleaded, "Mrs. Sandvik, I know you don't think much of me. But I'm willing to work hard and prove myself. Just tell me what to do..."
Tessa didn't want to hear any more.
She raised her hand, signaling Harold to stop. "What you do is your business. We don't care to watch. Someone, see him out!"
A servant stepped forward to escort Harold.
As Oscar's top assistant, everyone in Willow Creek respected Harold.
But with Tessa and Liam, he got no respect at all.
Without waiting for the servant, Harold left on his own.
This scene made Desiree furious. She rushed to Tessa after Harold left. "You are being very disrespectful to him. Harold is amazing. He made it on his own. How can you look down on him like this? How can you treat him like this?"
Tessa didn't expect Desiree, who had gone out to gain experience and have fun, to develop real feelings.
Tessa didn't want to argue with Desiree and snapped back, "Because this is our territory!"
Tessa sternly warned Desiree, "I've set up a blind date for you. Your date will be here soon. If you don't want your dad to lock you up at home, you'd better play along!"
Even sitting on the sofa, Tessa's sharp gaze and strong presence were undeniable.
Just then, Liam, who had been pretending to be ill, also came out.
"Tessa's being too soft. If it were up to me, I'd have said even harsher things. If he kept pushing, I wouldn't just have him escorted out!"
Desiree was stunned.
She never expected such words from her parents.
Her parents were highly educated and successful, yet they could say such things and even force her into a blind date?
What did they take her for?
Desiree sneered, "The Sandvik Family is wealthy. Oscar is the richest man in Willow Creek. Why don't you set your sights on him?"
Desiree's words were harsh, but they had spoken harshly first.
In fact, Tessa and Liam had considered such thoughts, but Oscar had Pearl by his side, a loving wife and kids, making him untouchable.
Desiree saw it all in their eyes and found it laughable. "So that's why you let me work at the Brown Group as a secretary. You're both insane! You can accept Oscar who is married and has kids. Why can't you accept Harold? Harold made it on his own and hasn't done anything to you. If you think the Sandvik Family's assets aren't enough, then keep earning more. Do you think an arranged marriage will bring anything to the Sandvik Family?"
Not only would it not bring anything to the Sandvik Family, but others might even want to take from it.
If you have such thoughts, why can't others?
Liam was straightforward. "What's wrong with a strong alliance? We don't want to support Harold. What's wrong with that? Are you going to leave the Sandvik Family for Harold?"
Tessa echoed, "Desiree, a marriage without blessings won't last. You might keep it going for a year or two, but you can't sustain it for a lifetime!"
Desiree hated hearing such words.
Harold had said he would work hard, but these people wouldn't even give him a chance.
Desiree said coldly, "What happens between Harold and me is my business. Although it's said that a marriage not approved by parents won't succeed, I don't think Harold is as bad as you think. Sometimes parents break up couples who are very much in love. In any case, I won't accept your arrangements. If you insist, you'll only get my dead body."
Desiree didn't want it to come to this, but their arrangements were suffocating.
In the end, Desiree held a fruit knife to her neck.
Desiree was the apple of the Sandvik Family's eye, cherished and raised with love, with hopes that she would marry well to make the Sandvik Family even better.
Now, Desiree was rebelling against them for Harold, even using such a drastic method to make her stance clear. Tessa and Liam were deeply hurt and disappointed.
