Chapter 633 I Don't Want to Give Up

Desiree wrapped her arms around Harold and said, "I joined the Brown Group to push my limits. You've taught me a lot, but one day, I'll move on. Harold, I hope you keep growing and don't let anyone hold you back. You get what I'm saying?"

She wanted Harold to thrive. If he chose to stay, she wouldn't push it, but she believed in aiming higher.

"I get it. But Desiree, I'm sticking with Mr. Brown for life. As for your dad, I'll work on winning him over. If he still says no..."

Before Harold could finish, Desiree's expression turned icy. "Harold, you've been through so much. If he says no, does that really mean no?"

Desiree was pissed. After everything they'd been through, Harold was ready to give up just because Liam disapproved?

If he gave up, what did that say about their relationship?

Harold pressed his lips together and said softly, "It's not just about him saying no. I'll do my best to get your dad's blessing. But if he still disagrees, I can't keep dragging you along or force you into marriage. That wouldn't be right."

Harold didn't want a relationship without blessings or a wedding without family.

As Liam said, Desiree deserved the best.

Desiree was both angry and amused. "If he disagrees and I get pregnant, he'll have to agree."

"True, but I can't do that. If my daughter got pregnant by someone I didn't like, I'd be furious," Harold said, holding Desiree's shoulders. "Desiree, I like you and want to be with you, but I want everyone's blessing. If we don't have that, I'd rather you find someone better."

"You!" Desiree felt like she was about to explode. "Harold, you really don't get it! After everything I've said, can't you be a bit more ruthless?"

"If I were ruthless, it wouldn't be fair to you. You're not a prize; you're someone I care about. Even if you're not with me, as long as you're happy, that's enough," Harold said.

Later, Liam faked being sick to get Desiree to come back, leaving Harold as the only assistant at the Brown Group.

Oscar knew Harold was handling everything alone, so he sent his kids and Pearl away and went to the office to help.

Harold, knowing how busy Oscar was, said, "Mr. Brown, I can manage the Brown Group. You should go back and be with Mrs. Brown and the kids. Don't miss out on your child's growth."

Sending Christopher away back then was a tough choice, but now there was a chance to make up for lost time.

Oscar said, "I can't let you handle everything alone. You had Desiree's help before, but now it's just you. And you need to think about your future. When are you planning to get married?"

Harold had popped the question at the Sip and See, and Oscar hadn't forgotten.

Harold and Desiree weren't just his top-notch assistants; they were a couple too!

"We might not get married," Harold admitted to Oscar.

Oscar got the hint that Desiree's parents weren't on board. Usually, parents were all about getting their kids hitched, especially since Harold wasn't exactly a spring chicken anymore.

Oscar gave Harold a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "How about this: I'll give you some time off. Go win Desiree over. If Liam wants you to take over his business, go for it. I'll find someone new here. Your happiness is what matters most."

Oscar was genuine. Harold had been by his side for over a decade, not just as an assistant but as a friend and family.

If Harold had a better shot at something, Oscar would not only support him but also help him get there.

When Oscar decided to wrap up his unfinished business, it was Harold who made it possible.

"Mr. Brown, I promised to always stick with you. If I leave, wouldn't that be..." Harold took a deep breath.

Oscar chuckled, "If you have a better opportunity, I'd be happy for you. How could I see it as betrayal? You've been with me for a long time. Harold, without you, things wouldn't have been this smooth. People can be trained, but happiness is rare."

He didn't mean he couldn't manage without Harold. Of course, he wanted Harold to stay, but he couldn't be selfish.

"Go, as long as you're happy. Let's grab a meal sometime. If you need anything, I'm always here," Oscar promised sincerely.

Harold was deeply moved. He never expected Oscar to say that. "Mr. Brown."

"Living a good life is more important than anything!" Oscar patted Harold's shoulder.

Harold definitely wanted to marry Desiree, so he brought gifts to the Sandvik Family the next day.

Liam wasn't a fan and naturally didn't want to see him.

It was Desiree's mom, Tessa Hawthorne, who met him.

Tessa explained, "Liam's been sick these past few days. Otherwise, he wouldn't have called Desiree back. You're a great guy, but the Sandvik Family is prestigious. Working under someone else would tarnish our reputation."

"So, you want me to start my own business?" Harold didn't expect Tessa to be so blunt.

Tessa had already talked to Liam, and his stance was clear. Even if Harold started his own thing, it would be like starting from scratch.

They'd still have to help because of Desiree.

Rather than making Desiree wait, it would be better for her to choose someone more established.

Tessa said, "That's not what I meant."

With her words, Harold got the picture. But he really liked Desiree and wasn't about to give up because of a few words.

Harold pressed his lips together and said firmly, "I don't want to give up on Desiree. I want to be with her forever."
