Chapter 913 Returning to Work at the Hospital
The men exchanged uneasy glances before reluctantly muttering, "Sorry."
Jeffery watched them leave, his eyes filled with disdain.
He turned to Lyra and asked, "Are you okay?"
Lyra shook her head. "I'm fine, Mr. Gray. Thanks."
Jeffery sighed softly. "Come with me. You shouldn't be working here."
Lyra nodded and followed Jeffery out of the private room.
Jeffery led Lyra through the bustling bar, the music and chatter fading into the background.
They headed straight to the parking lot. Jeffery opened the car door and helped Lyra into the passenger seat before getting in himself and starting the car.
Lyra fastened her seatbelt and looked at Jeffery, puzzled. "Mr. Gray, didn't you say you had things to handle at the hospital? How did you get here so quickly?"
Jeffery kept his eyes on the road as he replied, "I couldn't stop worrying about you while I was at the hospital. I had a feeling something might go wrong."
"So I wrapped things up as quickly as I could and rushed over. I'm glad I made it in time. Otherwise, tonight could have been really dangerous for you."
Lyra felt a warmth in her heart, mixed with lingering fear.
"Mr. Gray, if it weren't for you, I don't know what I would have done. I was so scared. Those men wouldn't listen to me at all."
Jeffery's brow furrowed slightly, a hint of concern in his eyes.
"You shouldn't be working in a place like this. It's too chaotic and full of all kinds of people. But don't worry, this won't happen again."
Lyra bit her lip gently, "I had no other choice. I wanted to earn some money quickly to get away from the Hill family. I thought if I worked hard enough, I could solve my problems. I didn't expect to run into so much trouble."
Jeffery reached out and gently patted her shoulder. "I'll help you deal with the Hill family. Don't be so impulsive. I've already taken care of the money issue. Just focus on your work at the hospital."
Lyra looked at Jeffery, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Mr. Gray, why are you so kind to me?"
Jeffery turned his head slightly, his deep eyes meeting hers.
"If you really want to repay me, go back to the hospital. That's where you belong. You have a talent and passion for medicine. You shouldn't waste it in a place like this."
Lyra nodded gently. "I understand, Mr. Gray. I'll go back to the hospital and work hard. I won't let you down."
Jeffery smiled, satisfied. "I believe in you."
The car drove slowly towards Lyra's home, the atmosphere inside becoming quiet.
Lyra watched Jeffery's focused profile as he drove, feeling a ripple of emotion.
She had never imagined that someone would step up for her in her time of need.
Before long, the car stopped in front of Lyra's building.
"We're here. Go get some rest. I'll arrange for someone to handle your resignation from the bar. You don't need to worry about it."
Lyra looked at him gratefully. "Thank you, Mr. Gray. You should get some rest, too."
Lyra got out of the car and stood by the roadside, watching Jeffery's car disappear into the night.
She turned and walked into the building, her mind replaying the events of the night.
Once home, the first thing she did was take a shower, turning the water to the hottest setting, as if trying to wash away the unpleasant memories of the evening.
She scrubbed her arms vigorously, where the men had touched her. Even through her clothes, she felt a wave of disgust.
She kept applying soap over and over until her skin turned slightly red, but the discomfort in her heart lingered.
After her shower, Lyra put on clean pajamas and sat on her bed, unable to sleep.
Her eyes fell on her phone. After a moment of hesitation, she sent Jeffery a message: [Mr. Gray, thank you so much for tonight. I will never forget it.]
She put down her phone and curled up on the bed, hugging her knees.
Returning to the hospital had always been her wish, but she worried if she could truly do well and not disappoint Jeffery.
As Lyra was lost in thought, her phone screen lit up.
It was a reply from Jeffery: [Glad you're home safe. Get some rest. See you at the hospital tomorrow.]
Those simple words brought a sense of peace to Lyra's heart.
She took a deep breath, telling herself not to overthink and to focus on the present.
She lay down again, closing her eyes, trying to sleep. Despite the whirlwind of thoughts in her mind, exhaustion eventually took over, and she drifted into slumber.
In her dreams, Lyra still found no peace.
The ugly faces and mocking laughter of the men at the bar haunted her, and she ran desperately, trying to escape, only to find herself trapped in endless darkness.
Suddenly, Jeffery appeared, calm and steady as always, reaching out to her and breaking through the darkness.
Lyra jolted awake from the nightmare, her forehead covered in sweat.
She took deep breaths, slowly calming down.
Morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, filling the room. She got up and opened the curtains, letting the light flood in.
After a simple breakfast, Lyra carefully chose a suitable outfit and headed to the hospital.
Her emotions were a mix of nervousness and anticipation.
She wasn't sure how to face her colleagues after everything she had been through.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Lyra went straight to Jeffery's office to report in.
As she approached the door, she heard a heated argument inside.
She hesitated but then knocked lightly.
The voices inside stopped abruptly, and Jeffery's voice called out, "Come in."
Lyra opened the door to see Jeffery behind his desk, facing an angry-looking man.
Jeffery nodded slightly at Lyra, signaling her to sit down.
Lyra sat quietly, filled with curiosity about what was happening.
Jeffery addressed the man, "I've made my decision, and it won't change. If you have any issues, you can take them up with the higher-ups. But in this hospital, you must follow my rules."
The man glared at Jeffery before storming out, slamming the door behind him.
Jeffery rubbed his temples and looked at Lyra, a tired smile on his face.
"Sorry you had to see that. There are some complicated issues at the hospital, but you don't need to worry about them."
