Chapter 366 As David's Wishes
Pearl changed into a new dress, put on some lipstick, and looked much more lively. She grabbed her bag and headed out.
Just as she stepped outside, Elijah's car pulled up.
He got out right away. "Ms. Harris," he called.
Pearl looked surprised. "Didn't you leave with Oscar?"
Elijah smiled. "Oscar sent me. He wanted me to give you the antidote personally."
He handed her a well-preserved vial.
Pearl took it, even more surprised. "The antidote's ready?"
"Yes, Oscar got it and told me to bring it over immediately," Elijah said, excited.
"Okay."
Pearl held the vial, feeling a bit anxious. The poisoning had been such a big deal; she didn't expect the antidote so soon. It felt almost unreal.
'Adrian's still abroad looking for an antidote. Could it really be this easy to make?'
She was worried about Adrian, not knowing if he was okay. She tried to contact him, but he never called back.
Oscar and Jeffery worked hard to find this antidote. She couldn't let them down. Only when she was healthy could they relax.
Once she was better, she could go find Adrian.
With all these thoughts, Pearl swallowed the antidote in one gulp, which didn't have much taste.
Elijah watched her and asked, "Ms. Harris, how do you feel?"
After a few minutes, Pearl looked at her arm. "I feel much better."
The bruises on her arm had disappeared. Before, they had been getting worse, but now they were gone. It was miraculous!
She felt lighter.
The difference between being sick and healthy was clear now. She had thought her fatigue was due to her pregnancy, but now she wasn't as tired or dizzy. She told Elijah, "This must be the antidote."
"Ms. Harris, you look much better, but we need to get you checked out," Elijah said, remembering Oscar's instructions. A full-body exam was needed to confirm the poison was gone.
"Okay." Pearl agreed and got into the car.
She felt much better and more spirited as they headed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Oscar got news about Pearl that the antidote worked.
Oscar felt a mix of emotions. Only when Pearl was truly well could he relax.
He put his phone away.
Haley noticed him looking at his phone and his changing expressions, which were clearly about Pearl.
She could guess without him saying anything.
Haley had a glimmer of hope, but Oscar shattered it.
She looked at Oscar, her obsession with him still clear despite her disheveled state.
"Did you find the antidote?" she asked.
Oscar's face turned cold. "That's none of your business. If you have nothing else, I'm leaving."
Haley brushed her hair back. She was a movie star; how had she ended up a prisoner? She didn't understand!
She stayed calm, not overly agitated. She slowly stood up, walked to the iron bars, and looked at him with longing eyes. "Oscar, do you know why I like you?"
She gripped the bars with both hands, wanting him to understand.
Oscar frowned, already losing patience. "Is this what you wanted to say?"
"No," Haley said softly. "This is the most important thing to me. Once I finish, it will be important to you too."
Oscar didn't speak, but his eyes told Haley to continue.
"When have I ever lied to you?" Haley said with a bitter smile. "Listen, and you'll understand."
She was sincere with Oscar. She might have deceived many, but not him.
"In your eyes, I saved you from The Crimson Eclipse Society, but you saved me," Haley said slowly. "I took advantage of your kindness and sense of duty. I tried to erase my shady past. But no one had ever treated me so well. The first thing you did when you woke up was to look for me. You asked, 'Where is Haley?' When I walked in, your gentle eyes looked at me, and I knew I would fall for you. You never disappointed me. You often came to see me, believed everything I said, and wiped my tears. You gave me a new life, made me feel like I should be a good person. All these years, you were special to me. Whatever I wanted, you gave me. I believed your kindness was because you loved me! Until Pearl entered your life and became your wife, everything changed! I shouldn't have gone abroad. If I hadn't, you would have been mine, and you wouldn't have married her. But I had no choice. If I didn't leave, they would have come for me, and my identity would have been exposed. Plus, my health required treatment abroad."
After hearing Haley, Oscar decided to clear things up. "Do you know why I was good to you?"
Haley's eyes filled with tears. "I risked my life to drag you out of The Crimson Eclipse Society. That was the start of our bond."
"I've known since I was a child that I have no blood relation to the Brown family!"
Haley was stunned.
Oscar continued coldly, "And I know you are the real child of the Brown family."
Haley's eyes widened in shock. "When did you find out?"
"I knew when you came out of The Crimson Eclipse Society and arrived at The Brown Family!"
So early.
Haley stared in disbelief. How was that possible?
"My kindness to you was because I knew the Brown family owed you. David owed you. Even though your parents were irresponsible, David took care of everything for you, including your expenses abroad. I was just following David's wishes to be good to you."
"Nonsense!" Haley shouted, not believing it. "How could he be good to me? He wouldn't even let me marry you. How could he do that? Impossible!"
She remembered the old man's indifference, never approving of her getting close to Oscar.
At that time, she didn't know he was her grandfather. She was respectful because she liked Oscar.
But when she found out she was part of the Brown family, she felt only hatred because her parents didn't love her, and she ended up in Kevin's hands. They all wronged her!
They would never make it up to her in this lifetime!
