Chapter 369 What About Me?
"I need to see Pearl!" Barbara couldn't wait any longer in the ward.
"No, you're a prisoner. You can't leave the room!" Elijah insisted.
"Can't you just come with me? Do you think I can run in this condition?" Barbara couldn't understand his stubbornness.
Elijah was firm. "Without orders, you can't leave!"
Barbara frowned, her face turning cold. "What if I insist?"
Elijah started, "Then I'm sorry..."
Before he could finish, Barbara slapped him hard.
Elijah was shocked. He didn't expect her to be so fierce. He'd been punished before, but never slapped by a woman!
"You shrew."
Using a crutch for support, Barbara kicked him. She had some training and wasn't about to show weakness.
She'd had enough of his rules and harshness. She was going crazy in the ward. All she wanted was to see Pearl, but he wouldn't allow it, which was unbearable.
Elijah dodged her attacks, grabbed her leg, and frowned. "Are you out of your mind? You're still injured!"
"I don't need your concern!" Barbara snapped.
Elijah had no choice but to let her go.
Nicholas, watching from the side, said, "Stop fighting. Elijah, she's a woman. Be more accommodating."
"Can you shut up?" Elijah shot back. "You always play the good guy!"
Barbara glared at Elijah. "Oh, so you're doing this on purpose. Nicholas is a hundred times kinder than you!"
"How is he kind? He just stirs up trouble. I'm following orders!" Elijah explained while dodging Barbara.
She was still a woman, and he had to be lenient. But he didn't expect her to be so ruthless. If he really bullied her, it wouldn't be manly. Dodging her attacks made him tired.
Nicholas, enjoying the show, said, "Barbara, give Elijah a break. You're right; he's just inflexible."
"Nicholas!" Elijah wanted to curse but held back. He just glared at him angrily. He'd deal with Nicholas later!
Barbara, realizing she couldn't overpower him, decided to change tactics. She threw her crutch aside, pretending to be unsteady. Seeing her without the crutch, Elijah slowed down and tried to support her.
In that moment, he ended up holding Barbara's waist.
Nicholas's eyes widened.
Elijah was stunned too.
Barbara, feeling taken advantage of, was furious. While Elijah was still in shock, she slapped him twice more.
One on each side.
Elijah had been slapped three times today. Each slap was hard. His face turned red!
"You pervert!" Barbara cursed.
Elijah let go of her, touched his sore face, and looked at Barbara. "I was protecting you."
Barbara didn't believe him. She quickly picked up her crutch and sneered. "I've seen many men like you, using protection as an excuse to take advantage of women. If that's not perverted, then what is? Don't think being in the military makes you different. When my leg heals, I'll beat you to death!"
"You!" Elijah was speechless. No matter what he said, it was wrong to her. He felt a bit aggrieved since he had never met such a difficult woman.
Barbara didn't want to argue anymore and turned to Nicholas. "You said I could see Pearl. I'm injured and can't escape. Even if I'm guilty, I should go to prison after being convicted. I've cooperated with your investigation. I just want to see Pearl!"
Nicholas said to Elijah, "Don't be so harsh. Oscar hasn't said anything. We should show some humanity."
Elijah, initially biased against Barbara, now said, "Alright."
Seeing them compromise, Barbara calmed down. She had left The Crimson Eclipse Society, but in this world, she didn't have many people she cared about. The ones she worried about and cared for were just a few. She wouldn't escape. If she weren't forced into it, she would never do something so harmful.
She supported herself with the crutch and followed them. They arrived at Pearl's ward, where Oscar was there.
Barbara glanced at Pearl and asked, "Where's Jeffery?"
Oscar looked at Barbara, and Elijah quickly said, "Oscar, Barbara insisted on coming. She's worried about Ms. Harris's condition."
He was speaking on Barbara's behalf, given her status. But their worries were unnecessary. Oscar was calm and knew that without Barbara's help, Pearl couldn't have been unharmed in Donald's base. And he knew about Barbara and Jeffery's relationship.
"He went back to the lab."
"You can leave now," Oscar said to them.
Elijah and Nicholas left the room.
Barbara looked at Pearl's face and said, "How did this happen? Is there no cure in this world? What should we do? Both Pearl and Jeffery are in danger!"
They were the most important people in her life. 'If they both die, what's the point of me living? I won't have anyone close to me anymore!' Barbara was anxious.
Oscar was silent for a long time and then said, "How much do you know about RavenWing?"
Hearing this, Barbara turned to look at Oscar, who was serious. But at the mention of that name, Barbara instinctively clenched her fists.
"Are you going to see RavenWing?" Barbara's eyes were filled with disbelief.
"Isn't he the only one with the cure?" Oscar couldn't just wait for Jeffery. He had to take action. What if he found the cure before Jeffery? And the cure was only with RavenWing. Oscar said, "Donald has been captured!"
