Chapter 493 Uncertain Circumstances
Pearl didn't get a response from the man.
Just as she was about to forcefully remove the mask, he grabbed her wrist. "You've got the wrong person. I..."
"If I've got the wrong person, then why did you coincidentally save me?"
Before hecould finish his sentence, Pearl interrupted him.
Her gaze lingered intently on him.
The silver mask covered his face, revealing only his thin lips and eyes.
At this moment, Pearl was absolutely certain that he was Oscar!
"Oscar, don't you think you're being cruel to me? You clearly didn't die, and you haven't contacted me for five years. And you didn't tell me where our child is. Why are you being so cruel to me? Who am I to you?"
Pearl couldn't control the surge of sadness in her heart and yelled at him.
His thin lips lifted coldly. "I'm really not the person you're talking about. I'm just here on a mission to Eldorians."
With that, the man pushed Pearl away, keeping some distance between them.
Although it wasn't very far, Pearl felt as if there was a great distance between them.
He was as tall as Oscar, and with that familiar figure, she really couldn't believe that the person standing in front of her wasn't Oscar.
What kind of mission would bring him to Eldorians and just happen to save her?
She always carried a handgun with her, which was a weapon meticulously crafted for her by Jeffery when she went to Serenea. She knew she had been protected too well over the past five years, so she had never used it.
But at this moment, she pulled out the gun and fired a shot at the ground near the man.
His's brow furrowed.
He turned around and saw Pearl pointing the gun at her own head.
A sarcastic smile crossed Pearl's lips. "If you're not him, then it doesn't matter if I die in front of you. Within these five years, I've been looking for Oscar and the child. I'm exhausted."
As Pearl spoke, she pulled the trigger.
Pearl was testing him, but she had already disturbed the man's heart. The moment he rushed towards her, she was certain that he was Oscar
Pearl moved quickly and removed the mask from his face.
Without the mask, Oscar's face felt lighter. But at this point, he saw no need to hide from Pearl anymore.
He faced Pearl directly.
They were only a step apart now, but neither of them moved closer. Pearl's eyes instantly filled with tears.
"Oscar, why?"
It was Oscar, her guess was correct.
It was the face she had longed to see, though he was thinner than five years ago.
And she saw a scar on Oscar's forehead.
Oscar opened his mouth, wanting to say something but not knowing where to start.
Pearl took a big step forward, grabbed his collar, and shook him forcefully. "Say something! Don't pretend to be mute! Oscar, you clearly didn't die. You're clearly right here. Why won't you see me?"
And Oscar's voice, why had it become so hoarse?
"Pearl, I'm sorry. If it weren't for you being in danger this time, if it weren't for you pointing a gun at yourself..." Oscar noticed Pearl's eyes and fell silent.
He felt heartache for Pearl. Over the past five years, Pearl had been traversing battlefields. Since he woke up and confirmed Pearl's location, he had been protecting her.
It wasn't that he didn't want to see her, but he couldn't, and he didn't dare.
But Pearl let out a bitter laugh. "Yes, if I hadn't forced you, you wouldn't have taken off your disguise to meet me. Oscar, what am I to you?"
Oscar clearly cared about her; he left all his assets to her and made sure she was well provided for.
But Oscar had left her alone for so many years. If he had told her he was alive, she wouldn't have suffered so much, nor would she be in such a state of despair now.
Oscar didn't respond, not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't find the words.
At this moment, it felt like something was stuck in his throat, making it hard to breathe, and he couldn't say a word. He wanted to hold Pearl in his arms.
But Pearl hadn't finished venting her emotions, and he didn't dare.
"Oscar, don't pretend to be mute!" Pearl gritted her teeth and repeated.
Her bloodshot eyes fixed on Oscar, she was now utterly broken.
Oscar took a deep breath.
When he heard footsteps, he quickly put on his mask. He grabbed Pearl's shoulders and whispered, "Pearl, it's not that I don't want to find you, but there are some things that make it inconvenient for me to do so. Take care of yourself here. I have unfinished business. Once I'm done, I'll come find you."
With that, he turned and walked away quickly, not even giving Pearl a hug.
Watching Oscar's departing figure, Pearl's breath caught. But unexpectedly, in an instant, her legs gave way and she collapsed hard onto the ground.
"Carol!" A voice called out urgently, and Louis rushed to Pearl's side.
As Louis helped Pearl up, he saw her tear-streaked face and frowned deeply. "What happened to you?"
The moment Pearl was separated, Louis had his men search for her everywhere. Just now, they had scattered Kevin's team, captured the injured Kevin, and his men had all surrendered.
He rushed to find Pearl, only to discover that, despite being physically unharmed, she was heartbroken to this extent.
Pearl shook her head. "I'm fine."
At the same time, she wiped away her tears.
Oscar had left so quickly, without any explanation. Even though he had been alive all these years and hadn't contacted her, she knew Oscar had his reasons.
Since everyone believed Oscar was dead, she wouldn't make a fuss. Besides, she didn't know what kind of situation Oscar was in now.
Louis clearly didn't believe her, but he didn't press further. Instead, he put his arm around Pearl's shoulders. "Pearl, let's go back."
"Okay." Pearl nodded and followed Louis.
She saw the captured Kevin. He looked the same as five years ago, but his eyes were locked on her.
Pearl hadn't forgotten the pain she and Oscar endured from the poison.
Someone like Kevin, such a villain, deserved to experience pain tenfold, a hundredfold!
