Chapter 414 Education
Pearl nodded. "Okay."
She went back to her room, clutching her phone, with many faces flashing through her mind.
Restless at first, she eventually fell asleep without knowing when.
When she woke up, it was already the next day.
She had promised Louis she'd start substituting for the kids at the school today.
In the morning, Camila made some corn porridge.
After eating, Pearl headed to the school with Louis.
Thinking about the students' mistakes last time, she decided to teach the basics again.
The classroom was simple, with a wall painted black as the blackboard and short pieces of chalk.
She wrote on the makeshift blackboard and introduced herself in Eldorians. "Hello everyone! My name is Pearl. Mr. Mitchell is busy, so I'll be your substitute teacher for now."
No matter what Louis was like, these kids were innocent.
She wanted to help them and make a good impression on Louis, hoping to meet RavenWing through him.
But the kids didn't listen and talked loudly, ignoring her.
Pearl shouted, "Quiet!"
She knew these kids were defiant but wanted to help them.
Ricardo immediately retorted, "Just because you can speak some English and you're from Tranquiloria, doesn't mean you can boss us around!"
Pearl instinctively looked over.
"If you don't want to listen, leave. Don't disrupt the class." She had prepared a lot before coming here.
She could speak Eldorians, but slowly.
"You're falsely accusing people again. You have no good intentions being here!" Ricardo then overturned the desk in front of Pearl, causing it to crash down on Ximena Delgado who let out a scream of pain.
Ricardo didn't help Ximena or realize his mistake; instead, he disdainfully said, "Are you stupid? Why didn't you move when I pushed the desk?"
Ximena burst into tears.
Pearl, with a stern face, walked up, lifted the desk, and pulled Ximena up. She noticed a red mark on Ximena's back.
Ricardo stood there, cold and arrogant, showing no remorse.
Pearl first comforted Ximena, "Don't cry. I'll put some medicine on you later. Wait for me over there, okay?"
She led Ximena to sit aside.
Then, she walked towards Ricardo with a stern face.
Seeing a long ruler on the teacher's desk, she picked it up. "Hold out your palm!"
"No, I won't!" Ricardo was defiant and fearless.
To manage these kids, Pearl had to tame Ricardo first.
Moreover, Ricardo had hurt Ximena by overturning the desk, which was wrong. Pearl grabbed Ricardo's hand and gave his palm two warning taps with the ruler. "You go stand outside as punishment. You can come back in when you realize your mistake. The rest of you, stay here. If anyone doesn't want to attend class, leave now!"
Leaving these words, Pearl took Ximena to Louis's room at the school.
The surrounding kids, surprised by Pearl's sternness, obediently sat at their desks.
Ricardo, unwilling to accept the punishment, ran off clutching his palm.
Pearl unlocked Louis's room at the school, which was small but tidy.
She saw some anti-inflammatory lotion on the windowsill and carefully applied it to Ximena's red mark.
"I'll apply it for you now, and you can take the lotion home after school. Make sure to tell your family. Next time something like this happens, tell the teacher and your parents. Don't just cry, and don't be afraid of Ricardo, okay?" Pearl felt heartbroken seeing Ximena's tear-filled eyes.
Ximena shook her head. "I'm afraid Ricardo will hit me."
"Don't be afraid. I'm here." Pearl patted Ximena's head and comforted her for a while before leading her out of Louis's room.
Before they could return to the classroom, they were surrounded by a group of villagers.
Pearl recognized them as the same villagers who had confronted her yesterday.
Antonio Ortega and Leticia Ortega stepped forward, and Antonio said, "Yesterday was Paloma's fault, but today's incident can't be Ricardo's fault too!"
Pearl suddenly realized that Paloma and Ricardo were siblings, and Antonio and Leticia were their parents, which explained Ricardo's behavior today.
Pearl pulled down Ximena's shirt, revealing a long red mark to everyone. "I'm substituting for Mr. Mitchell today. Let me explain what happened."
Pearl continued, "I wanted to teach the kids, but Ricardo led the others in not listening to me, even overturning a desk that hit his classmate. He showed no remorse and even tried to incite the other kids not to attend class. Did you send Ricardo to school to cause trouble? If a teacher can't educate the kids, then what's the point of having a teacher?"
Pearl spoke clearly, and this time, she spoke Eldorians quite fluently.
The villagers were speechless.
Encouraged by Pearl, Ximena stood up to testify against Ricardo. "Ricardo usually bullies us at school. This time, he said the new substitute teacher was a bad person who bullied Paloma and told us to unite and teach her a lesson. If we didn't agree, he would hit us!"
"You're lying!" Ricardo, of course, denied it.
Ximena retorted, "If you don't believe me, ask the other students."
"You bully your classmates and even the substitute teacher. Get home right now, and I'll teach you a lesson today!" Antonio kicked Ricardo.
As he was about to grab Ricardo's ear, Pearl intervened, "Don't use brute force to solve this. I just hit his palm to make him aware of the problem. Let him stay in school, and I'll teach him properly."
Ricardo followed Pearl, clearly afraid of Antonio.
With others present, Antonio had no choice but to let Ricardo return to school.
Pearl brought Ricardo back to the classroom. Before she could say anything, a loud noise shook the school violently, making Pearl instantly alert. She immediately called out to the kids, "Follow me quickly!"
Pearl wanted to move the kids to a safe place, but an explosion lit up the sky with flames.
In the massive shockwave, she instinctively pulled Ricardo and Ximena to shield them.
At that moment, the village was in chaos.
Within a minute, the allied forces had invaded, followed by vehicles bearing the Tranquiloria flag.
