Chapter 64 He was Good Enough to Stand in Front of Her

Eric looked at Adrian and said, "Adrian, you have achieved so much now, and you haven't forgotten about the school. I have to thank you for donating ten million dollars to the school this time."

"You don't have to say that. It's what I should do to give back to my hometown, and it's also the school I used to be at," Adrian replied.

Eric was very satisfied. After all, his students' achievements also brought honor to their school.

Pearl had not been to the school many times since she started working. When she encountered them, she couldn't conveniently leave, so she could only silently listen.

Adrian donated ten million dollars to the school. Pearl still admired him because even though he studied and lived abroad, he hadn't forgotten about his hometown.

If it were someone else who had succeeded abroad, they wouldn't come back.

"Pearl, I heard that you are now at the Brown Group," Eric suddenly shifted his gaze to Pearl.

Pearl was taken aback.

Eric asked with concern, "Are you doing okay?"

Pearl was surprised and said, "Eric, even you know about that?"

With so many students, it was impossible for him to remember what each person was doing for work.

Eric said, "I've met with President Oscar a few times. He mentioned it, so I knew you have been with the Brown Group, but I haven't seen you."

Pearl had been by Oscar's side for a long time and didn't know that he had a connection with Eric. She said, "Maybe it was just a coincidence. I happened to not be by his side."

Eric chatted with Pearl for a while and then turned his gaze back to Adrian. "We will be hosting an event at the school in a few days, Adrian. Come and give a speech..."

After this matter, Adrian stopped and waited for Pearl.

He approached her and asked softly, "Are you tired from walking?"

Pearl nodded and said, "I have indeed been walking for a long time."

"Let's sit for a while. Eric will treat us to a meal later. After we finish eating, I'll take you back home." Adrian led her to a nearby bench.

He wiped the dust off the chair with his hand before letting her sit down.

"Sure." Pearl looked up at Adrian and asked, "Did you come to the school specifically today?"

"Yes," Adrian replied, "But what made me even happier was running into you."

Pearl stared at him. Somehow, she saw a brighter world in his eyes.

Perhaps it was because he always spoke so nicely and had such a positive attitude.

So, Adrian gave her the impression of being optimistic.

Being with someone like him could make her happy even if she wasn't feeling well.

"I'm also happy to see you," Pearl politely responded.

This gave Adrian enough confidence. A slight smile appeared at the corner of his lips. "Really? I was afraid of causing you trouble."

Pearl said, "How is it possible? I don't feel that way. Every time I meet you, I feel my mood improve."

"Well, that's great," Adrian took the opportunity to ask her, "Are you not feeling well? Has something happened to you recently, or have you been feeling down since you arrived here?"

Pearl paused for a moment and said, "Both, I guess." But she still doubted and asked, "I remember you just mentioned that I might not like it here, did you already know about my kidnapping case?"

Adrian's eyes became even deeper, and he looked at Pearl with a worried gaze, responding softly, "I do. How could I not know such a big thing?"

"But you were already in Regalton at that time." Pearl thought that if he had gone to Regalton, he wouldn't know anything about here. But then she thought again and said, "I see, Eric must have told you. Yes, it was also the biggest incident that happened at Sunshine Secondary. He couldn't have not told you."

"I only learned about it the second year after your accident," Adrian explained after she finished speaking.

Pearl turned back to look at him again. She didn't know if it was her imagination, but Pearl noticed a hint of sadness in his eyes.

Adrian might be worried about her.

But she was fine now, so why did he still have such a look?

But what surprised her was that he knew about it the second year.

"It seems like the news reached Regalton."

Adrian added, "I came back that year."

Pearl stared at him, not knowing what he wanted to say. But Adrian continued, "But I quickly returned to Regalton. I didn't even have a chance to say hello to you."

"It's okay, we weren't familiar friends back then."

Adrian just smiled. "Yes, in your eyes, we indeed weren't that familiar of friends." He continued, "But now, I think I regret it. If I hadn't gone abroad back then, things might have been different. When you were in danger, I could have protected you and prevented you from getting hurt. I would rather let the criminals kidnap me than let them kidnap you."

"You're joking." Pearl thought he might be joking, so she didn't pay too much attention to that statement.

"I heard from Uncle Evans that you later developed post-traumatic stress disorder and it took you half a year to recover. You must have been in a lot of pain during that time."

And all of this happened shortly after he went abroad.

Adrian wasn't there during the most difficult time in Pearl's life.

By the time he found out the situation and came back, she had already recovered and entered the best high school in the city.

Pearl was still Pearl, excelling at everything she did, regardless of the task at hand.

He also knew that someone had saved her, allowing her to come back to life.

Adrian often wondered what would have happened if he had been the one to save Pearl. Perhaps things would have turned out differently, and they wouldn't have waited until over a decade later to reconnect.

But he didn't make that choice.

He wanted to be exceptional enough to stand before her.

"The past is all behind me now, and I've overcome those shadows," Pearl said to him. "But I didn't realize you knew so much about me. My preferences, the significant events in my life, you are aware of all of it. If I didn't know the actual situation, I would have thought you had made a lot of efforts."

"I learned all these things while chatting with Uncle Evans." Adrian smiled. "He only has you as a precious daughter, so of course he mentions you often. I was just listening to him."

Pearl knew that Evans would always bring her up in conversation.

"By the way, please don't mind what my dad said when he was drunk."

Pearl didn't say it directly, but she understood that Evans wasn't satisfied with her marriage, so half of what he said while drunk was false, and the other half was true. He was very satisfied with Adrian. But she was afraid of causing unnecessary misunderstandings, so she explained, "My dad likes to talk nonsense when he's drunk, but he doesn't remember anything when he wakes up. I hope this hasn't put too much pressure on you. If he does it again next time, just tell him the truth, that you have someone you like."

She also remembered what Adrian had said. He had someone he liked, so she couldn't let him be troubled again.

"I don't mind," Adrian said. "You don't have to consider too much for me. I really enjoy chatting with Uncle Evans. He likes me, and that's more than enough."

"What?" Pearl was taken aback.

Adrian didn't mention this matter again. Instead, he stood up and said gently, "Next time, I'll go have coffee with Uncle Evans again."

Pearl had some concerns in her heart. He understood and cared for her so much, and he enjoyed chatting with Evans. People who didn't know the situation might think he liked her.

But Adrian had someone he liked, so she abandoned this thought once again.

It seemed unlikely.
