Chapter 600 How Could It Be So Effective

"Thanks," Desiree suddenly heard Harold's soft, sincere voice, and as she turned, she found Harold's eyes locked onto hers.

She could feel how serious he was. "No need to be so formal. You've helped me too. Let's patch ourselves up and get out of here. Maybe we can ask that guy for a phone later?"

Desiree felt they'd spent enough time in this place.

And the factory wouldn't just let them go.

"Alright, I'll talk to him later," Harold said.

Even though the middle-aged man had saved them, when Harold asked to borrow a phone, the guy said, "I've been hunting here for years. Where would I get a phone?"

The man's place was small but had everything they needed. Harold found it hard to believe he didn't have a phone.

But sure enough, there were no communication tools around.

So Harold suggested, "Can you take us to the market? We'll pay to make a rescue call. Don't worry, once we contact someone, we'll definitely reward you."

Harold thought, 'This guy doesn't carry a phone, but he can see past my fancy clothes. He's definitely not your average hunter.'"Alright, but I have one condition," the man said before Harold could think too much.

Harold didn't agree right away. "What's your condition?"

The man glanced at both of them. "I saved you, but only one of you can leave."

Harold and Desiree exchanged a look, their faces darkening.

Only one could leave, and that was bad news for both of them.

The man had seemed fine before, but now he was acting different. Harold's heart sank as he realized the man didn't mean they had a choice; he meant Desiree had to stay.

Harold immediately grabbed Desiree and shouted, "We won't accept your condition!"

Their disappearance would surely be noticed by Oscar, who would come to rescue them.

If this man tried anything with Desiree, Harold would fight to the death to protect her!

"If you disagree, I won't blame you, but we have nothing more to discuss," the man said and turned to leave.

Now, only Harold and Desiree were left in the room.

Soon after, they heard the door being locked.

Desiree said, "We could have agreed to his condition first."

Harold shot back, "Who knows what he's planning? If we agree and you get hurt, what then? If I stay with you, at least I can look out for you."

In critical moments, sticking together was better than being alone.

Desiree was amused. "Do you even realize your current state? In the end, it would still be just me alone."

"Harold, do you want me to be honest?" Desiree couldn't help but smile.

Harold could read Desiree's expression like a book. "So, you're saying I'm useless right now, huh? Just trying not to get knocked out with one punch?"

"At least you get it," Desiree's smile widened.

Despite everything, Desiree could still smile. She was really something else.

Harold frowned. "You know how dangerous this is, but you're not scared at all. You..."

"Honestly, if we're meant to die, there's nothing we can do. It's fate," Desiree chuckled before Harold could finish.

Harold felt a pang of guilt. "I didn't expect all this trouble when I brought you along."

If he had any doubts about Desiree before, they were gone now. After everything they'd been through, he knew her character.

If Desiree had been shady, she would've ditched him long ago. But she didn't, and that said a lot about her.

Desiree uttered calmly, "If you feel guilty, then when we get out of here, let go of your doubts about me, okay? I just want to improve myself, and with the Brown Group being such a big company, do you think Oscar would let me get away with anything?"

Years ago, Oscar was already a big deal in Willow Creek. And now, he was even more powerful.

"Don't worry, we'll get out of here. Mr. Brown will find us." Even though Oscar was focused on Pearl and Christopher, he had given Harold many important tasks.

If Oscar couldn't reach him, he'd definitely start looking, and he'd find out that Harold and Desiree were in trouble.

"I hope so." Desiree wasn't in a rush. At least they weren't deep in the mountains, and the factory wouldn't find them here anytime soon.

The middle-aged man might have thoughts of keeping her, and it was just a thought, not an action.

So, why worry?

Harold was right; Oscar noticed their disappearance, especially when he learned it was related to the factory. He immediately pressured the factory manager to reveal Harold and Desiree's last known whereabouts.

Now, Oscar was personally leading a search in the mountains for Harold and Desiree, especially Harold, who was like family to him.

He couldn't just stand by and let Harold get hurt.

With the large number of people Oscar had arranged, they soon found the area.

The middle-aged man had known Harold was extraordinary from the start, and now seeing Oscar with people and photos, he wouldn't forcefully keep Harold and Desiree.

As a hunter, he knew not to fight when the prey was too strong.

So, he approached Oscar and said, "I saved them, you need to give me some money, or I won't let you take them."

Oscar was determined to find them, and since the man asked for money, he would give it.

Oscar didn't hesitate and asked, "How much do you want?"

"Well, what do you reckon? I didn't save them for free, right?" the man said.

Oscar also noticed the man's poor situation.
