Chapter 544 Letting Go
He dug around and figured out Mackenzie was behind this. She didn't hit her mark at the wedding and just wouldn't quit.
He tracked her down, and Oscar wasn't about to let her off the hook.
Mackenzie got tied up and dragged in front of Oscar and Pearl. She shot daggers at Pearl, who was lying on the bed hooked up to an IV, like she wanted to rip her apart.
"We've come this far, and you still won't back down. But I get it, you really love Oscar; otherwise, you wouldn't be so desperate to be my kid's stepmom."
Mackenzie knew Oscar had a kid but didn't care. She knew he was getting hitched and still didn't care. If that ain't love, what is?
Pearl gave Oscar a look that said it all.
Oscar was uneasy about leaving Pearl alone with Mackenzie.
Pearl chuckled. "She's tied up, you're right outside, and your guys are here too. How could she hurt me?"
Pearl's words hit Oscar's exact worry.
But they hadn't planned this; they just got each other with a look.
Oscar didn't even glance at Mackenzie, let alone have that kind of understanding with her.
Mackenzie was green with envy, jealousy, and pure hate.
If Pearl hadn't come back, Oscar would've stayed in Serenea, become the president, and been with her.
She didn't care that Oscar had a kid; they'd have their own. Plus, Charles would raise Christopher with her.
She couldn't wrap her head around what kind of spell Pearl had cast to make Oscar so hooked and loyal.
"We've come this far, and you still won't give up. What good would my death do for you? Think you can leave Willow Creek in one piece?" Pearl spoke slowly.
Mackenzie stayed silent.
She hadn't expected Oscar to find her so fast.
If Pearl really died, Oscar wouldn't let her go; a life for a life was a given. But unlike Pearl, she had a family mission and couldn't just throw her life away.
"I know all that, but I just can't accept it. While you were gone, Charles had already set up for me and Oscar to get married. I worked so hard..."
Before she could finish, Pearl cut her off, "You seem to forget one thing: it's not that I wasn't around; I've always been here. Some things just aren't yours, no matter how hard you try."
Mackenzie's face darkened. "Are you rubbing it in?"
There had never been anything Mackenzie couldn't get, but with Oscar, she failed over and over, and now Pearl was rubbing salt in the wound.
Mackenzie was fuming.
Pearl said calmly, "What do I have to show off? You can't mess with my life with Oscar. On the flip side, do you think being stuck in Tranquiloria is a good thing for you?"
If Mackenzie got stuck in Tranquiloria, it would involve two countries, and maybe the authorities would think it over and send her back.
But one thing was clear: Tranquiloria would never let Mackenzie set foot there again, and she'd be permanently kicked out.
"I don't need you to remind me, and you don't need to act all high and mighty. Pearl, you just met Oscar before I did!"
Pearl smirked. "Mackenzie, you might not know, there was a woman named Haley who showed up even before I did."
Haley was even Oscar's savior.
But in the end, it was still her and Oscar together.
Mackenzie didn't know about Haley; she only knew about Pearl. Hearing Pearl say this, she started rethinking her whole thing with Oscar.
The moment she saw Oscar, she was hooked by his killer looks, his skills, and his swagger.
She always got what she wanted, and her drive to win had always pushed her to chase after Oscar.
"Pearl, I'm sorry."
Mackenzie took the first step, bowing and apologizing to Pearl.
At that moment, she really got it.
Pearl didn't want Mackenzie to be stuck in her own head, so she said all that. Now that Mackenzie saw the light and got the problem, it was a good thing.
"You apologized to me, but my eyes are still messed up because of you. You gotta pay for that. Otherwise, I won't let you off easy."
Mackenzie crashed her wedding and messed up her eyes, so yeah, she had to make Mackenzie pay. As long as Mackenzie didn't mess with her and Oscar's life again, she'd let her go.
"Okay."
Mackenzie nodded, and Pearl asked Oscar to let her go.
But Oscar wasn't having it. To him, anyone who hurt Pearl was unforgivable.
He made sure Mackenzie suffered from the same eye allergy. But then again, Mackenzie couldn't help but laugh. "I crashed your wedding; are you gonna crash mine in return?"
"This time, you need to learn a lesson! This is also a warning: if you dare to mess with Pearl again, I guarantee you won't have a body left!"
Oscar's eyes were ice-cold and fierce, and Mackenzie was overwhelmed by his intense vibe.
"Don't worry, Pearl has convinced me, and I realize my mistake. I won't bother you again. For the trouble I caused before, I apologize once more."
Saying this, Mackenzie bowed deeply.
Oscar turned away, not looking at Mackenzie anymore, ending everything with her and Serenea. But just as Mackenzie left, his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Oscar's face suddenly darkened.
"What do you want?"
After a moment of hesitation, Oscar answered the call.
"Oscar, there's big trouble in Serenea. Your brothers are at each other's throats, and only you can come back to take charge," Charles was speaking breathlessly, sounding rough.
But Oscar had made it clear before that he had no interest in any position in Serenea, including in Tranquiloria. He wanted to completely pull out and be with Pearl.
Oscar pressed his lips together and said in a low voice, "If you need someone to take charge, there are plenty of capable people in Serenea. Isn't the Doe family your go-to?"
