Chapter 35 Let's Settle Things Once You're Well

It turned out they were a couple.

Harold thought he should be more respectful to Pearl.

Pearl asked knowingly, "Has Oscar gone in?"

"Mr. Brown just went in not long ago," Harold hesitated to speak.

Pearl looked at the reporters at the entrance, just as she expected, for Haley, he would do anything without hesitation.

Harold was concerned that she might overthink and explained, "Ms. Harris, don't misunderstand Mr. Brown, he's here for work."

Pearl smiled and said to him, "I understand, you don't need to explain."

Harold finally breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."

There were reporters at the front door, so Pearl entered the hospital through the back door to avoid attention

Taking the elevator upstairs, she saw Mae and probably knew which ward Haley was in.

Haley was in a VIP ward, relatively quiet. Just as she walked over, she heard Haley sobbing and saying, "Why are you saving me? It's better to let me die. What am I now? What am I worth?"

"Don't be silly, Haley."

She heard Oscar's voice.

"Why did you come so late? When I needed you, you were never by my side. You weren't like this before. You used to care for me the most. Whenever I was sad, you would be by my side. You've changed, what's the point of me being alive!"

Tears streamed down Haley's face, her complexion pale and haggard, as if she had suddenly lost a lot of weight.

Seeing this, Oscar approached with a serious face.

Haley immediately threw herself into his arms.

Pearl didn't want to face this, but she walked over uncontrollably.

She saw Oscar standing by the bedside, wiping Haley's tears with a tissue.

Haley couldn't hold back her tears, in his arms, with needles in her hand.

Haley did look quite miserable.

This scene was very heartbreaking for Pearl.

"Oscar, please don't leave me, okay? Without you, I would die. I've died once already, do you want me to die a second time?" Haley cried out, clinging tightly to his waist.

"I'll stay with you."

Oscar's tone was cold, patting Haley's back with tenderness.

In the morning, he came out wearing the coat Pearl bought, but now he wasn't wearing it, probably to prevent Haley from seeing it.

Watching them embrace, Pearl clenched her fists tightly, enduring the bitterness in her heart.

Oscar was caring for her, showing Pearl enough tenderness before, the next second, he was even more intimate with Haley.

'Was Oscar feeling guilty, which made him treat me a little better?' Pear thought.

He always gave all his tenderness to Haley.

At this moment, Haley grabbed his sleeve, asking in a weak voice, "Oscar, if I hadn't gone abroad, if I hadn't left you, would you married be me?"

This question struck a chord with Pearl.

If Haley hadn't left, would he have married her?

However, Oscar pulled her hand away, furrowing, "Don't ask about things that are in the past."

Tears streaming down her face, Haley said with great sadness, "Why won't you tell me? If I had stayed by your side, would the person beside you be me? But these years have been so painful for me. Do you know why I went abroad?"

"Pearl, why are you standing here? Do you want to see how miserable Haley is?" Mae walked over while Pearl was lost in thought, seeing her standing at the door and called out to her loudly.

Mae's words caught the attention of the two inside.

Oscar looked over, saw Pearl at the door, and immediately let go of Haley.

Caught off guard by being noticed, Pearl felt a bit at a loss, lowered her head and walked out.

Seeing her leaving, Oscar hurried to catch up. "Pearl!"

Pearl kept walking, not knowing how to face Oscar, but Oscar caught up and grabbed her hand.

Pearl turned around, staring blankly at Oscar with her red eyes.

Oscar reached out to wipe the tears from her eyes, but Pearl turned away. "Go take care of Haley, don't worry about me."

Instead of answering her, Oscar asked, "Why are you in the hospital? Are you feeling unwell, or is the rash getting worse?"

He rolled up her sleeve, wanting to check her arm.

This made Pearl even more heartbroken. She withdrew her hand, refusing to let him see.

"I'm fine." Pearl looked towards the ward. "The important thing you mentioned is Haley, right?"

In his eyes, Haley came first.

If Haley had any problems, he would come running without hesitation.

"Haley's vocal cords are damaged, and she's losing hearing in her left ear. If there's no improvement, her career will be over," Oscar's brow remained furrowed.

So Haley had experienced such a situation.

For Haley, the end of her career would be a fatal blow.

Pearl lowered her gaze, unable to feel happy, and said, "I understand."

Haley followed them out, standing at the door with Mae holding her IV drip behind her. She looked at Oscar affectionately and called out, "Oscar."

Oscar turned back and said to Pearl, "I'll come home after I deal with this matter. You go home first today and wait for me."

After that, Oscar walked over again.

Pearl could only wait for him at home.

The days she waited for him were countless.

She watched them go in, unable to do anything.

What could she do? Was it unreasonable to try to win back Oscar's heart, or to have a big argument with Haley?

Haley was still crying. "Oscar, why did Pearl come over? Does she misunderstand us, or did I disturb you from accompanying Pearl?"

"Don't overthink it," Oscar said coldly. "Take care of yourself and stop doing anything foolish. If I recover one day, will that be the day you divorce Pearl?"

Haley felt very insecure, needing too much. Seeing Oscar so far away from her, she tightly held his hand and asked, "The day I recover, will that be the day you divorce Pearl?"

Oscar's face instantly turned cold, instinctively pulling his hand away. "Haley, that's not a question you should be asking."

"You know, I still love you," Haley's tears were about to fall. "I only want you. I can give up everything, but I can't lose you.. If I hadn't gotten sick, hadn't gone abroad, would you have married me, not Pearl! You also have me in your heart, how could you forget me."

"Haley!" Oscar sternly interrupted her.

He looked at her crying, devoid of pity, and said coldly, "Once you're better, we'll settle things between us."
