Chapter 132: You've Had a Good Appetite Lately

Pearl didn't know what Oscar was up to, but she didn't want to stay here either. She didn't want to be caged like a pet bird.

The way Oscar looked at her stirred her emotions, but she was also wary of him.

Pearl frowned and said, "Pearl, you need to understand. You're my wife. How could you call yourself a mere pet? Isn't it normal for us to live together?"

In the past, when Pearl and Oscar were together like this, Pearl had never been so agitated. What could have caused her to change?

Oscar didn't understand it.

Pearl gripped the sheets tightly and asked, "When are we going to court for a divorce?"

"Are you really in such a rush to do it?" Oscar asked.

"Yes," Pearl said, "We already agreed to get a divorce, so we shouldn't keep delaying it, don't you think?"

Oscar's deep eyes stared at Pearl. The way she spoke was devoid of any warmth. She was very different from how he remembered her to be.

Pearl seemed desperate to get away from Oscar now, which made him suspicious. He asked, "Is it because you want to be with that man, Magee?"

Pearl paused. Now that it was out in the open, she admitted it. "Yes, you know there's someone else in my heart, and you know that it's Magee."

Oscar's face turned grim as he coldly said, "Pearl, are you lying to me?"

This made Pearl anxious.

" Magee has never been around you, so have you been lying to me all along?"

Pearl looked up, saying, "Have you been spying on me?"

"Shouldn't I be when my wife has fallen in love with someone else?"

Pearl pursed her lips and kept quiet.

In the past, if Oscar had shown a little more tenderness and love towards Pearl, she might have told him that the Magee she liked was in fact Oscar himself.

But it was too late for that now. She wasn't going to tell him. All she wanted now was to get away from him and live her own life.

She didn't love him anymore.

Moreover, Pearl was pregnant and didn't want Oscar to know that she was carrying his child.

She knew that she was capable of raising the child on her own.

She had to get a divorce from Oscar before her pregnancy became obvious.

"Tell me, what's the deal with this man named Magee? I need to know!" Oscar said. He found it strange. He had asked people investigate all the men Pearl had been in contact with since childhood, and not a single one of them had been named Magee.

The only person Pearl had been close to was Adrian, and he wasn't known by any other name.

So who was Magee?

Pearl replied coldly, "Why should I tell you? So you can go cause trouble for him? I won't let you harm him!"

"Pearl!" Oscar raised his voice in displeasure.

Pearl was always afraid when Oscar raised his voice, fearing that he might lay hands on her.

People could change so quickly, especially a man whose pride was hurt by the idea of his wife having feelings for another man.

"Oscar, you don't need to interrogate me like this. I won't tell you who he is."

Changing the subject, Pearl felt it was necessary to talk calmly. "However, if you divorce me and set me free, I can tell you where he is."

Oscar clenched his fists. He was quite angry. Pearl was trying to keep Magee a secret from him and was even using it as leverage against him.

Oscar's anger was evident on his face as he grabbed Pearl's chin.

Pearl was worried that Oscar might resort to violence, but Oscar just forced her to look at him. His eyes were cold and stern as he said, "How dare you try to negotiate the terms of divorce with me?"

Oscar was angry and curious about Magee, but he was also rational and knew what was at stake.

Suddenly, he said, "You don't have to say anything. Let's not talk about divorce anymore. Just stay!"

Pearl was surprised that he could say that. She shouted, "Oscar, what do you mean?"

"Just behave," Oscar said softly, with a hint of indulgence, stroking Pearl's hair. "You haven't eaten yet. Are you hungry? I had the servants prepared your favorite food, go downstairs and have some."

Pearl hadn't expected Oscar to not relent at all.

Did she not understand him as well as she thought she did? Or did she misjudge Oscar's usual demeanor?

Pearl had thought that if Oscar found out she loved Magee, he would immediately divorce her.

After all, both Oscar and Pearl had lovers.

However, it seemed that Oscar would rather confine Pearl than divorce her.

Pearl was anxious. She wanted a divorce, not to continue staying by Oscar's side. "Oscar, why won't you proceed with the divorce? Tell me, what do I need to do to get a divorce?"

Oscar held Pearl's hand and calmly said, "Didn't I say that I have no time now to consider it now?"

"But you'll have time later, right?" Pearl said, following Oscar.

"You're still needed in your position. If there's no one to replace you, you'll have to stay by my side. We can talk about divorce later."

"Does that mean that as long as someone takes over my position, we can get a divorce?" Pearl continued to ask. She just wanted an answer.

"We'll talk about it later." Oscar lightly patted the back of Pearl's head. "Now go get something to eat."

Pearl said, "I hope you keep your promise!"

Pearl didn't want vague answers. She needed Oscar to determine when they could get a divorce, when she could resign, and when she could truly be free.

She followed him downstairs.

The area surrounding them was very pleasant. There were artificial hills outside, freely flowing ponds, and forests. It was spacious and quiet: a perfect place for a vacation.

There was already a large table of dishes, freshly prepared and still piping hot.

As Oscar had said, they were all dishes Pearl liked.

Pearl deliberately sat a bit further away from the main seat because she knew that spot belonged to Oscar. She didn't want to be too close to him.

Pearl sat close to the door, thinking that she wouldn't have to interact with him much if she sat further away from him.

However, as soon as Pearl sat down, she found Oscar sitting right next to her.

She looked at Oscar, who picked up his knife and fork and said, "I didn't see you eat today, you must be so hungry."

Oscar gently put some food on Pearl's plate.

Pearl wasn't really hungry. To top it all off, her imagination and the reality of the situation were overlapping, making her feel particularly uneasy.

Pearl was afraid that one day she would be imprisoned by Oscar and treated like a pet.

But thinking of the child in her belly, she couldn't not eat. She had to eat more.

Taking up her knife and fork, Pearl started to eat.

Seeing Pearl eat so willingly, Oscar felt satisfied. "Take your time, don't overeat."

He poured her a glass of water, afraid that she might choke. He didn't eat. He just silently served her food.

Pearl ate quietly, not saying a word. She only put down her cutlery when she was full.

"Are you done?" Oscar asked.

"Yes."

Oscar squinted and said, "You've had a good appetite lately."

Pearl looked at Oscar and said, "I haven't eaten all day, so of course I'd eat a lot now."

"Maybe it's because the chef here is really good at his job," Oscar said, thoughtfully. "If you like, shall I ask the chef here to cook for you in the future?"
