Chapter 639 Pregnancy
Desiree locked eyes with Daryl and saw the amusement in his gaze, making her heart sink.
She had no clue what Daryl was up to.
Tessa, on the other hand, was an open book. She just wanted to play matchmaker. "It's been ages since you two last met. You must have a ton to catch up on."
"Alright, we’ll leave you two to it."
With that, Tessa dragged Bronte away for a chat.
Now, it was just the two of them.
Desiree cut to the chase, "What do you want?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Daryl's eyes darkened, the gentleness gone, replaced by a sharp edge. "When we were kids, you said you wanted to marry me. I still remember that."
But the truth was, only he remembered.
To Desiree, those childhood words were just that—childish.
The more Daryl thought about it, the angrier he got.
Desiree thought he was being ridiculous. To her, childhood promises were just empty words. "Mr. Fields, I get how you feel, but I'm really sorry. Childhood words don't mean anything to me. I can't give you what you want. You're amazing; you can find someone else. No need to fixate on me."
"You're rejecting me because of that guy, aren't you?" Daryl's sudden question left Desiree stunned.
She looked into Daryl's eyes, which seemed to pull her in, causing a panic that made her step back.
But she tried to keep her cool. "This has nothing to do with Harold."
Daryl didn't listen. "I heard he started a company for you, but business hasn't been great, has it? With so many clients pulling out, how long can the company's cash flow last?"
Finally, Desiree got it.
"You did all that!" She glared at Daryl, eyes blazing with anger.
Daryl watched her anger for a bit before smirking. "He took what was mine; I'm just taking it back."
Desiree thought Daryl was being unreasonable.
He sabotaged things behind the scenes and treated her like an object, ignoring her feelings completely.
"I won't let you make it," she said coldly, turning to leave.
Daryl didn't follow her, standing there, looking kind of lonely.
Desiree stormed out of the party, even angrier after picturing Daryl admitting his actions.
The night wind was chilly, and the cold made her shiver.
Normally, this level of cold wouldn't bother Desiree.
But maybe because of the situation, the chill felt like needles piercing her bones, making her teeth chatter.
As she reached the entrance, her eyes widened slightly, and she quickened her pace toward the person by the car.
"What are you doing here?" Harold freed one hand to drape his coat over her shoulders. "Your phone has location sharing. I heard the Fields Family was hosting a party and guessed you might be here, so I came."
In just a few words, he glossed over the complicated process of finding her.
He had been searching for Desiree everywhere for the past two days, not even getting a good night's sleep.
But Harold didn't mention any of that. Desiree soaked up the warmth from his embrace, sniffing as she said, "I don't believe you. You always make things sound so easy."
Harold just kept quiet, gently stroking her hair.
They didn't need words; they understood each other perfectly.
Desiree stayed in Harold's arms for a while. Sensing her mood, Harold didn't rush her.
After a bit, once Desiree felt better, they got in the car.
Desiree then spilled everything to Harold.
When he found out Daryl was behind it, Harold wasn't surprised at all. He stayed calm. "I also figured out it was Fields Corporation. I was planning to deal with them."
Hearing he already had a plan, Desiree felt a wave of relief.
A few days later, Harold took action.
First, he snatched a project Fields Corporation had been working on for six months. Then, he exposed old scandals they had buried, using public opinion to crush them.
In just a few days, Fields Corporation's stock price tanked.
Harold played a huge role in this.
He had dug up all the dirt and evidence against Fields Corporation.
Busy dealing with their own mess, Fields Corporation had no time to start new projects. The clients they had lost quickly came back.
This time, Harold signed several contracts at once to avoid any future issues.
After that, Fields Corporation went quiet for many days, with no further moves. The company staff finally felt at ease after watching for a few days.
"Mr. Lewis, you're amazing. Fields Corporation probably still doesn't know what hit them! With so many deals secured, shouldn't we celebrate?"
The company had been hustling for days to secure these deals, and Desiree felt a bit guilty thinking about it.
So, she booked a hotel for a celebration party.
Everyone gathered in a private room, celebrating with a table full of dishes.
Desiree sat next to Harold.
He occasionally picked food for her, always choosing her favorites.
A female employee said enviously, "I really envy Ms. Sandvik for having such a considerate boyfriend. Every time I see them, I want to go home and scold my husband."
This comment made everyone laugh.
Desiree suppressed a smile and picked up a shrimp Harold had peeled for her, putting it in her mouth.
Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit her.
She frowned and couldn't bear it, immediately running to the side to vomit, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
Seeing this, Harold followed her, looking at her with concern. "What's wrong? Are you okay? Let's go to the hospital."
Others also suggested that Desiree go to the hospital for a check-up. The hospital wasn't far from the hotel, just a ten-minute drive. It was better to go than to endure the discomfort.
Desiree initially wanted to refuse, but she felt too unwell and agreed.
After arriving at the hospital, Desiree was rushed to the emergency room for a check-up.
When the results came out, both of them were stunned.
"She isn't sick," the doctor said, noticing Harold's anxiety and offering some comfort. "She's pregnant. The results are here. Twelve weeks along. Congratulations to both of you."
Desiree placed her hand on her abdomen in disbelief, looking bewildered. "I'm going to be a mom so soon?"
