Chapter 141: I Won't Get Divorced
Oscar and Pearl were both drawn by the sound.
They saw a girl in a long pink dress, tall and fair-skinned, with her hair piled high. She was wearing a silver-white mask, running towards Oscar while holding up her dress.
The girl's mask was similar in style to Oscar's.
Most importantly, the height difference between the girl and Oscar was evident when she ran up to him. To be able to recognize Oscar at a glance even when he was wearing a mask, she had to know him quite well!
"Who are you?" Oscar said, frowning. He was sure that the person in front of him was not Pearl.
He didn't know what Magdalen had up her sleeves. More importantly, he had no idea that Pearl was watching all of this.
The girl smiled. "Oscar, never mind who I am, can I invite you to dance? Since Magdalen is hosting this party tonight, I should make good use of this opportunity, right?"
The mention of "Magdalen" by the girl piqued the curiosity of both Oscar and Pearl.
Who exactly was she?
Oscar coldly refused. "I don't accept invitations from strangers."
The next moment, Oscar turned around.
"Oscar, are you going to reject me now?"
A deep voice sounded behind Oscar, and Pearl saw the girl take off her mask, revealing a sweet and delicate face.
Oscar didn't even look back.
At the position where Pearl was, the door was pushed open, and Oscar appeared in front of Pearl, still wearing his mask. Oscar didn't say anything. He just reached out his hand to her.
Behind Oscar was the girl from before, so Pearl couldn't refuse. Moreover, Pearl was still wearing a mask, so the girl might not necessarily recognize her as Pearl.
Pearl placed her hand in Oscar's, and Oscar held Pearl's hand as they walked out. However, the girl blocked the way. "Why didn't you accept my invitation? Oh, you have a companion by your side."
Oscar squinted when he heard the voice again. Only then did Oscar recognize the girl in front of him.
"It's you!" he said, coldly.
The girl smiled and said, "Do you recognize me now? Magdalen has gone to great lengths to host this dance, so don't be a killjoy. There are activities all night tonight."
"I'm not interested."
After saying this, Oscar pulled Pearl past the girl.
Oscar embraced Pearl and walked out without looking back.
Magdalen saw them leaving, but did not stop them. However, the appearance of the girl had already made an impact on Pearl's heart.
However, from start to finish, Pearl never asked Oscar about it.
Oscar and Pearl returned to Serenity Haven Estates.
Oscar carried Pearl to the bedroom upstairs, pressed her down, and held her chin, "Pearl, don't you have anything to ask me?"
Oscar's eyes fell on Pearl, his gaze showing his curiosity.
Pearl noticed that Oscar's eyes were somewhat cold and stern, with a hint of confusion and perhaps even a touch of sorrow?
No, it was an illusion.
Pearl said, "What do you want me to ask?"
"Go to sleep." Oscar said, letting her go.
He then got up and left the bedroom.
This time, Pearl resisted the urge to watch him go.
The next day, Oscar personally brought breakfast to the bedroom. Pearl had already woken up, and everything in the bedroom was neatly prepared.
To conceal her tired appearance, Pearl applied light makeup.
"You're up so early despite not having to go to work. What are you planning to do today?" Oscar thought light makeup suited her and made her look elegant.
"I'm used to waking up early," Pearl said. Having been Oscar's secretary for the past few years, Pearl had long been accustomed to waking up earlier than Oscar. She always wanted to present the best version of herself to him.
She wanted to make breakfast for him.
Now, it was just another habit ingrained in her body.
"You say you're used to it, but if we were to divorce, would you still do it?" Oscar gave Pearl a look, then walked towards the couch.
The breakfast Oscar brought was placed on the coffee table.
Pearl followed.
There was milk, oatmeal, and a fried egg.
Pearl remained calm. "Before I was with you, I hadn't formed this habit. Now, if we were to separate, the habits I've formed will naturally adapt to my life as I live alone."
Everything had a process.
Oscar didn't say anything. He just quietly watched Pearl.
Pearl was too calm.
"I married you because of Grandpa's arrangement, so why did you marry me? For the status that being Mrs. Brown gave you, or because you didn't want to return the ten million?" Oscar asked nervously.
After three years of marriage and years of being together, how could Pearl be so calm?
"You can think of it as the latter," she replied.
Pearl walked to the couch and sat down. She ate slowly.
Oscar suppressed his anger. "So it's become a mutual benefit."
Oscar asked, knowing what the answer would be, but he acted like a child who was denied candy.
When did Oscar start caring so much about his place in Pearl's heart?
Oscar calmed himself and changed the subject. "You can rest at the villa today, or if you want, you can come to work with me."
After some thought, Pearl decided it was better to go to the office and find something to do to pass the time, rather than stay alone in the vast villa.
Looking into Oscar's eyes, she said, "I'll go to work with you. Have you had breakfast?"
"Not yet," he said.
"I'll prepare it for you then." Pearl got up to attend to Oscar as she usually had.
It seemed like nothing had changed.
Oscar watched Pearl's figure, still enjoying this feeling.
At work, Pearl brewed coffee for Oscar, hung up his suit, and arranged the documents neatly in front of him.
As Oscar massaged his temples, Pearl subconsciously moved to help him. "If you have a headache, rest more. Don't stay up late, don't smoke, and don't drink."
Pearl's advice seemed like a final farewell, as if she was about to leave Oscar completely.
Oscar grabbed Pearl's hand and said, "Pearl, I won't divorce you!"
