Chapter 853 Falling Ill

Saskia had to hold back her tears.

She looked at Azalea, whom she hadn't seen in forever.

Suddenly, she noticed Azalea's features had changed. Saskia's eyes widened, and she grabbed her tightly. "What happened to your face? Was it a fire? Does it hurt?"

Azalea touched her face and looked down.

She didn't care about her face.

A new face was nothing compared to her life. She was lucky to be alive.

Despite always thinking that way, when she heard Saskia's concerned question, her eyes reddened for a moment. "It hurts, Saskia. It really hurts."

She had never felt such pain before.

The fire had been excruciating, lying in bed unable to move was agonizing, and being controlled and beaten by that man was even worse.

As Azalea spoke, she started to feel wronged. "It hurt so much. So many times, I just wanted to die, but I made it back."

Before she could finish, she fell into Saskia's arms.

Saskia held her, trembling, gently patting her back. "It's okay, it's all over now. You're back, and as long as I'm here, no one will hurt you again."

Azalea buried her face in Saskia's neck and, after a long silence, asked, "Saskia, do you still blame me?"

Saskia chuckled. "When did I ever blame you? You've always been my sister."

The two sisters sat and talked for a while.

Saskia mentioned that she had found Heidi and suggested Azalea visit her when she had time.

Azalea hesitated. "I can't right now. I have some things I need to take care of."

"Do you need any help?" Saskia asked.

Seeing her shake her head, Saskia didn't press further but reminded Azalea to come to her if she ever needed help.

Azalea left before Pearl did, not wanting anyone to know she was back yet.

Saskia was a bit disappointed but didn't force her.

That night, after the wedding, Azalea returned home with a sleeping Benjamin in her arms.

Nathaniel came back with her.

She was still getting used to the fact that they were now a couple and didn't know how to arrange the rooms. "There are three rooms: one for Benjamin, one for me, and a guest room. Do you want to sleep in the guest room or with me…"

Saskia couldn't finish the sentence.

Even though she knew they were legally married and it was perfectly normal for them to share a room, she had been alone for so long that it was hard to adjust. Saskia's personality wasn't exactly carefree either.

If Benjamin were awake, Nathaniel might have been more cautious, but since he was asleep, Nathaniel had no reservations. "Do you really think I should sleep in the guest room now?"

With Nathaniel's raised eyebrow and knowing tone, Saskia's ears turned red.

In the end, Nathaniel shared her room.

They lay on the same bed, their skin touching, their breaths mingling.

The darkness was filled with a silent, tantalizing tension.

Saskia shifted uncomfortably, trying to move away.

Nathaniel immediately pulled her back into his arms, his chin resting lightly on her shoulder. "I can promise not to do anything, but if you keep moving, I can't guarantee that."

Saskia stopped struggling and stayed still.

Nathaniel sighed and held her close, keeping his promise not to do anything for the rest of the night.

The next morning, Benjamin stared at Saskia.

Feeling uneasy under his gaze, she thought he might have noticed something. "Why are you staring at me? Eat your breakfast, or you'll be late."

Benjamin, munching on a sandwich, blinked and mumbled, "My friends at preschool said that if Mommy and Daddy love each other, I'll get a new brother or sister soon. Mommy, will I have a sister?"

Saskia nearly choked.

After a moment of coughing, she glared at the innocent-looking Benjamin. "What are you talking about? Just eat your breakfast."

"Okay," Benjamin pouted.

Saskia must be shy.

If she knew what he was thinking, she wouldn't let it slide so easily.

After dropping Benjamin off at preschool, Saskia drove to work, just like any other day.

People stared at her in shock.

"Ms. Fuller, why are you at the office?" Ruby Baker from the planning department pointed at her, looking surprised as if she shouldn't be there.

Saskia was even more confused. "This is the office. Where else would I be?"

Ruby stammered, holding her forehead. "But you and Mr. Egan are…"

Ruby's logic was simple.

People work to make a living. If there was an easier way, who would want to get up early and work every day?

Saskia quickly understood from Ruby's expression and sighed. "Even though my status has changed a bit, as long as I haven't resigned, I'm still the same Ms. Fuller you know."

She hoped they wouldn't treat her any differently.

Ruby got the message and felt a bit apologetic.

Saskia smiled, showing she didn't mind.

Her attitude put everyone at ease. They had been unsure how to treat her, but after Ruby's explanation, they were relieved.

"Even with her new status, Ms. Fuller is still the same."

"That's great. I was worried things would be awkward, but now I don't have to worry."

As they talked, Saskia walked in, and the room fell silent. Then everyone greeted her with smiles.

Saskia responded to each one.

She and Nathaniel interacted the same as before. He would still scold her if she made a mistake.

But he was much kinder to her than to others.

So now, people reporting to Nathaniel would bring Saskia along to avoid his wrath.

Whenever he saw Saskia, no matter how angry he was, he couldn't stay mad.

One assistant, who had narrowly escaped a scolding, sighed, "Ms. Fuller is better than a lightning rod."

Saskia chuckled.

Just then, Nathaniel called her into his office.

The assistant gave her an encouraging gesture, indicating he couldn't help her.

So they could use her to share the blame but not to take it for her.

Saskia was helpless but went in.

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow at her downcast look. "I just asked you to pick a place for lunch. Why do you look like that?"
