Chapter 865 Invested a Lot of Money

After the press conference, Saskia returned to her seat. Nathaniel walked over, sat down next to her, and gave her shoulder a reassuring pat.

Saskia took a deep breath. "Did you put a lot of money into this for me?"

"This is an extra slot; it won't hurt anyone. So, it's the best way, Saskia. If you're willing to take this step, it's a great opportunity," Nathaniel said seriously.

It seemed he was also telling her not to get hung up on these small matters and to focus on the current competition.

Saskia steadied herself.

"I might not let you down."

"It's not about not letting me down; it's about not letting yourself down," Nathaniel said, looking at her earnestly.

Saskia felt deeply moved.

The next day was the first round of the preliminary competition, a debate for lawyers. It started simply, with each side defending a hypothetical case.

In such a scenario, there was no absolute right or wrong, only the skill of the debaters.

Saskia was lucky to draw a small law firm.

Once on stage, she took a deep breath, adjusted her outfit, and stood there as if she were back in college, confident and full of spirit.

Standing at the debate podium, Saskia's gaze was firm, filled with respect for the law and a commitment to justice. She knew this stage was her battlefield and her chance to prove herself again.

"Let's begin!" The host nodded.

The debate started. Her opponent was clearly experienced, with sharp words, likely having participated in many debates.

But Saskia didn't back down. She clearly and forcefully presented her arguments, supporting her points with facts and evidence, each step steady and strong.

The audience and judges began to see this unknown young lawyer in a new light.

Saskia's performance was not just about her grasp of the law but also a convincing power, a desire for justice and fairness.

As the debate heated up, her opponent's attacks grew more intense, but Saskia remained calm and composed. Using her deep legal knowledge and clear logical thinking, she countered each of her opponent's challenges.

Finally, during the closing statements, Saskia's voice was firm and powerful, her eyes shining with a steadfast belief in the law.

"The law is just. It is not just cold statutes but a tool to uphold social justice. As lawyers, our duty is to use the law to secure fair treatment for our clients. As a legal professional, I will always uphold this belief."

At first, there was a smattering of applause, then it grew into thunderous clapping.

"Lawyer Egan, your rookie isn't as strong as I thought," Jagger said, leaning forward slightly and teasing Nathaniel, who was sitting in the front row.

"Though her debating was a bit immature, her arguments were sharp, and her points were well-chosen. Given time, she might catch up to you, Jagger," Nathaniel retorted calmly.

Jagger's face fell.

"Dream on. She hasn't faced me yet."

Nathaniel was confident. "She'll advance today and eventually face you."

"Lawyer Egan, you don't think there's any favoritism, do you?" Jagger deliberately raised his voice.

Nathaniel remained calm. "You can try reporting me. I'll sue you for defamation. How about we settle it in court?"

Jagger shrugged, feeling defeated. "Forget it. I won't stir up trouble. Everyone knows you're a famous lawyer. Who dares to mess with you? Besides, I didn't say she was favored."

Nathaniel smiled faintly. "If you don't want to settle it in court, let's see who wins when you face her."

Jagger raised an eyebrow. "You trust Saskia that much?"

Nathaniel was certain. "Of course."

On stage, the host announced the advancing names, and Saskia's was among them. She breathed a sigh of relief, filled with joy and satisfaction.

Soon, Saskia came off the stage.

Nathaniel stood up, taking flowers from his assistant. "Congratulations on advancing."

"You bought these flowers in advance, didn't you?" Saskia smelled the fragrant flowers, her favorite.

"Of course," Nathaniel said gently.

Saskia looked up and smiled. "How did you know I'd win?"

"You were bound to win," Nathaniel said confidently. "I believe in you. With your skills, reaching the end is no problem."

Hearing Nathaniel's certainty, Saskia felt a warm current in her heart but remained modest. "I'll do my best not to let you and everyone down."

Nathaniel hugged her gently. "No matter the outcome, you're already the best."

Saskia nestled in Nathaniel's arms, feeling an unprecedented sense of peace.

After a while, she realized they were in public and shyly stepped back.

"What?" Nathaniel felt a bit lost as she pulled away.

"Avoiding suspicion. Everyone knows you're the host. If rumors spread, it wouldn't be good," Saskia said, blinking.

Nathaniel shook his head helplessly. "You..."

Just then, his phone rang.

It was Pearl.

Pearl asked, "Are you done with everything? Can you come out?"

It had been many days.

During this time, RavenWing had passed away. The funeral was low-key, and not many were notified. But now, Louis was having a hard time explaining things to the Eldorians.

Despite RavenWing's past misdeeds, he was still the former leader of the Eldorians. Now buried in Willow Creek, it was problematic.

Louis was handling it, and even Jimena had rushed back upon hearing the news.

Pearl wanted to meet up with Saskia.

Saskia knew Pearl had been very good to her, often providing help and companionship. But she had been too busy taking care of Jade to meet up recently.

Feeling guilty, Saskia said, "Okay, I'll come over. Send me your location."

Pearl said, "No need for that. Just come to my place. I'm waiting for you here. Bring Benjamin if you can."

Pearl hoped that bringing Benjamin would help Christopher cope with the loss of RavenWing.

Saskia understood Pearl's intention to foster a bond between the children.

She had no reason to refuse. Nathaniel and Oscar were good friends, and it would be nice for their children to become friends too.
