Chapter 256 Exposure

"When I left the Brown family, I didn't take it with me, so it's not mine!"

Oscar's eyes were sharp, his lips tight, and his fists clenched.

"Let's go," Adrian said to Pearl.

Pearl followed Adrian out.

Oscar watched them leave, his gaze icy cold.

In the basement, Pearl told Adrian, "I found out why Haley lost her hearing. I need to make a call."

Online chatter was buzzing about the issue.

She needed to clear things up while it was still hot to save Magdalen's reputation.

Adrian opened the door. "Heading to the TV station?"

"Yeah, I need to go back."

Adrian drove Pearl to the TV station.

She had been on leave recently.

Chloe had messed up an exclusive interview with Oscar, ruining her segment and causing a scene. The editor-in-chief found out and scolded Chloe.

Chloe's incompetence left a bad impression.

Plus, the orphanage was chosen for a popular TV show debut.

Chloe's mess made things harder.

Haley's interview was Chloe's chance to bounce back.

Only Chloe had interviewed Haley, and Horizon Network broke the news first.

Her image at the station was somewhat restored.

When Pearl returned, Chloe was leaving.

Seeing Pearl get out of another man's car, Chloe mocked, "Pearl, you're back. Got a new guy today?"

Pearl shot back, "Feeling smug again, huh?"

Chloe replied, "You fall in one place, you rise in another. As long as there's news, I'm good."

"Can news be reported recklessly?" Pearl asked. "Your rush for success will backfire."

Chloe's report on Haley lacked journalistic integrity.

For a journalist, that's a big mistake.

If her reports weren't truthful, no one would trust her.

Pearl knew Chloe understood this but still messed up.

Chloe, full of confidence, strutted over in her high heels, always acting superior. "You won't beat me. I've never failed here. I don't need your advice, Pearl. Just watch how you lose!"

Pearl replied, "Fine, let's see."

Chloe laughed. "I'm off to an interview. Just wait and see."

She walked away triumphantly, as if she'd already won.

Pearl went to her desk, where Emma was typing away.

Emma's hair was messy, and she was intensely focused, unaware of Pearl's presence.

Pearl patted her shoulder. "Working hard on manuscript now? Didn't you say you didn't like it?"

Emma turned, stunned to see Pearl. "Pearl, you're back!"

Tears streamed down her face.

Pearl was surprised. "Why are you crying?"

She quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe Emma's tears.

Emma sobbed, "I've been bullied!"

"Chloe messed up her exclusive interview and got ridiculed by the whole department. Somehow, she got the scoop and the editor-in-chief put her back on top. She used her position to dump a ton of work on me. I've been writing non-stop, barely sleeping four hours a night!"

Seeing Pearl gave Emma some relief.

Pearl comforted her, patting her back and glancing at the dozens of pages on her screen. "Alright, stop crying. This time, I'll let you have your moment."

Emma sniffled, "If I can get back at Chloe, that's my moment!"

Chloe had been bullying her for so long. If Chloe slipped up, Emma would definitely seize the chance to bring her down.

"That's the plan."

Emma quickly wiped her tears. "Pearl, I knew you'd save me. Just tell me what to do!"

Pearl sat down, ready to expose Haley with Emma.

Meanwhile, Chloe was driving to Haley's place.

Haley had returned home to Serenity Haven Estates, a place Oscar wouldn't go while she was there.

She couldn't rely on Oscar yet and had to climb up on her own.

Her career in the entertainment industry was her main focus.

Even if she couldn't rely on anyone, she wanted her career to thrive.

She couldn't depend on others; it would only lead to disappointment.

When Haley got home, her assistant Mae arrived too.

Mae was her most loyal helper, always by her side.

Mae was touched by Haley's loyalty and worked even harder for her.

When Chloe rang the doorbell, Haley was putting on makeup to look more haggard for the interview.

Mae opened the door, and Haley's makeup was done.

"Ms. Garcia," Chloe said, handing a gift to Mae. She gestured and wrote: [You don't look great today. Ready for the interview?]

"You don't need to write; I can understand you."

Haley didn't want to complicate things.

She knew Chloe was like her, willing to do anything to succeed. Working with her meant mutual benefits, no need to pretend.

Chloe sat across from Haley. "I'll get straight to the point. I'll write your interview to make you look pitiful. Your fans will feel sorry for you, and you'll gain public sympathy. With good PR, your career will be smoother. I've been at the TV station for years and know the game. Trust me, your good fortune is ahead."

Haley had researched Chloe.

She knew Chloe's ambition and capability, which is why she decided to work with her.

"Got it," Haley said coolly.

"Then let's get started." Chloe set up her camera.

Just then, the landline kept ringing.

Mae answered, her expression changing dramatically: "What did you say?"

Haley saw Mae's worried look. "What's wrong?"

The phone rang again after Mae hung up.

She unplugged it. "Haley, someone exposed your medical records, saying your hearing loss is fake. People are already calling to curse you!"
