Chapter 227 Does Pearl Not Trust Me?

[I'll be available at noon.]

Pearl sent Oscar an address and messaged Chloe: [Twelve o'clock in the morning.]

Chloe saw Pearl's message and smiled. She already had a plan.

Meanwhile, Oscar was in a great mood. He didn't expect Pearl to reach out first. She'd never done that before.

'Has she finally come to her senses? Maybe she doesn't want a divorce and wants to come back?' he thought. This was the only scenario where Pearl taking the initiative seemed like a good sign.

Pearl was used to a life of luxury and couldn't possibly get used to living in that small apartment.

Oscar was debating whether to act tough when he saw Pearl, to show her that while divorce was easy, getting back together wouldn't be. He wanted her to realize no man treated her as well as he did, so she'd never mention divorce again.

Harold walked in and saw Oscar deep in thought. She knocked on the door. "Mr. Brown, there's a shareholders' meeting this afternoon."

Oscar looked up. "Postpone it. I have somewhere to be at noon."

Harold was surprised. Today's schedule was packed, and delaying it would mess up the whole day. "Where are you going?"

"To see Pearl," Oscar corrected himself. "Pearl wants to see me."

Harold seemed to catch on. "Have you and Mrs. Brown reconciled?"

Oscar put his phone aside, leaned back, and smiled slightly. "She's the one looking to reconcile."

Harold laughed. "Then congrats, Mr. Brown."

Oscar shot him a glance and said coldly, "Calm down. I didn't say I'd forgive her."

Harold pursed his lips but said nothing. He knew that as long as Pearl reached out, Oscar would respond. 'Oscar must be thrilled.'

Harold was happy for them too. If Oscar's marriage was happy, Harold could thank his lucky stars. A happy Oscar meant a potential raise for Harold.

"I'll get the car ready," Harold said.

Oscar thought for a moment. "What should I do this time?"

Harold quickly suggested, "I think you shouldn't bring up the miscarriage again. Mrs. Brown's mood hasn't recovered. If you bring it up, she'll probably get upset. Take your time.. When Mrs. Brown trusts you more, then you can talk about it."

Oscar frowned. "Are you saying Pearl doesn't trust me?"

"Not enough."

"Why?" Oscar was puzzled.

Harold sighed and asked seriously, "Mr. Brown, do you really not understand?"

Oscar replied, "As long as Pearl and I have this marriage certificate, everything I have is hers. What's there to be dissatisfied with?"

Oscar admitted that at the beginning, due to work and family reasons, he had neglected Pearl. Later, he got used to her presence and would take care of her, give her surprises, and provide everything a husband could.

Harold said, "Mr. Brown, you and Pearl are husband and wife. Don't treat her like an outsider."

"When have I ever treated her like an outsider?" Oscar had never had such a thought.

"Between you and Haley..."

"There's nothing between us. You know that very well." Oscar frowned.

"I know, but Mrs. Brown doesn't. You never told her about you and Haley. How could she know? Besides, your marriage was not public before, which meant you were essentially single. No woman can accept her husband not wanting to make their marriage public. It gives no sense of security and not enough trust," Harold said, feeling the need to vent. "Mr. Brown, if you have nothing to hide, you should let people know."

Oscar pressed his lips together. A few days ago, James had said it was strange that Oscar hadn't been betrayed. Now Harold was saying Oscar didn't communicate with Pearl. Everything seemed Oscar's fault.

"Get the car," Oscar said. "We're leaving now."

Pearl sat in the car parked in front of the restaurant. Chloe came over and knocked on the window. "Is this the place?"

"Yes," Pearl replied. "Oscar will be here at twelve."

"Alright," Chloe said, smiling at Pearl. "Don't worry. I'll remember your kindness. Once I get promoted to editor-in-chief, I won't let you spend your life just typing."

"Then you should go in," Pearl said, giving her the room number.

Chloe walked into the restaurant. Pearl turned on her phone and saw an update on the orphanage matter.

Watching Chloe walk away, Pearl knew she wouldn't have time to cause trouble for now. She immediately drove towards the orphanage.

Twenty minutes later, Oscar arrived at the restaurant. He looked into the rearview mirror, adjusted his suit, and straightened his attire before getting out of the car.

At this moment, he was alone. He strode towards the private room.

Chloe had been waiting in the private room for a while. Upon hearing footsteps at the door, she sat up straight, waiting for Oscar to walk in.

Oscar opened the door and looked inside, only to see Chloe sitting there alone, with no sign of Pearl. His face instinctively darkened.

"Mr. Brown," Chloe said with a smile, surprised at how efficient Pearl had been in getting him to come out.

"Where is Pearl?" Oscar's eyes were deep, and his voice was cold.

"Pearl went to the restroom. She'll be back soon," Chloe replied.

Oscar thought this might be a trap. But fearing he might miss Pearl, he held back and walked in, sitting as far away from Chloe as possible. He kept a cold face the entire time, waiting.

Seeing this, Chloe quickly poured some wine and said enthusiastically, "Mr. Brown, please wait a little longer. The food will be served soon. Maybe I'll have a drink with you first."

Oscar's face remained icy. "I'm waiting for Pearl."

"Mr. Brown, I know Pearl invited you out," Chloe said with a smile. "We can drink slowly and wait."

Oscar looked at the glass of red wine in front of him. Chloe kept urging him to drink. He placed his fingers on the glass and asked, "Can you hold your liquor?"

Chloe, hearing him ask, became even more enthusiastic. "A little. I should be able to keep up with you, Mr. Brown."

Oscar swirled the wine in his glass, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "Did Pearl ask you to drink with me?"

Chloe replied, "Pearl and I are friends. She brought me to meet you, so I came. Mr. Brown, don't you remember me? Last time, I wanted to interview you, but you didn't have time. Maybe this time I have a chance?"

Oscar looked at her deeply, smiling but saying nothing.

"To show my sincerity, I'll down this drink!" Chloe said happily.

Oscar remained unmoved and asked again, "Why isn't Pearl here?"

Every word he spoke was about Pearl. Chloe, after downing a glass of wine, was a bit tipsy. She said, "Mr. Brown, can we not talk about Pearl today? Let's drink. What's so great about Pearl? She's not as good as me. I can make you happy, Mr. Brown. Pearl can't; she only brings you trouble."

Chloe, showing her coquettishness at the table, became even more flirtatious after drinking. Her words were seductive and affected.

Oscar suddenly smashed the glass of wine in his hand to the ground.
