Chapter 560 Envy
At night, Willow Creek was lit up like a Christmas tree, especially since it was Valentine's Day. Businesses were going all out to reel in customers, like they were trying to own the whole holiday.
Pearl rocked up to the entrance of this themed hotel but didn't head in right away. She peered through the big windows, looking for the dude Magdalen mentioned—the one with a blue rose on his chest.
Every table was packed with couples, but no sign of the guy with the rose.
She thought about calling to see if the guy had bailed after waiting too long, but then she spotted a familiar face.
Oscar turned a corner and strolled into a private room on the second floor.
What was he doing here on Valentine's Day instead of chilling at home? A million thoughts raced through Pearl's mind, all of them about Oscar being cheating on her.
She marched into the hotel and made a beeline for the private room upstairs.
"Excuse me, miss, do you have a reservation?" A waiter stopped her.
Pearl flashed a smile and said, "How many people are inside? If you tell me, all this is yours."
She handed the waiter a fat stack of cash, and he grinned, holding up two fingers.
Of course, on Valentine's Day, a place like this wouldn't just have one person.
She kicked open the private room door and sneered, "Mr. Brown, you're in high spirits. Didn't you know..."
Her words got stuck in her throat because Oscar was alone in the room.
Pearl turned to the waiter and snapped, "Didn't you say there were two people inside?"
The waiter replied, "Mr. Brown said two; his wife hasn't arrived yet."
"You can go now; I'll handle this." Oscar dismissed the waiter, walked over to close the door, and found it busted. He chuckled, "Guess we need a new room."
The waiter quickly made arrangements.
Pearl was in a daze; Oscar didn't seem fazed at being caught, and the waiter mentioned his wife. Wasn't she his wife?
"What's going on? Don't you know today is Valentine's Day?" Pearl was fuming.
Oscar took her hand and gave her a once-over, smiling approvingly. "This outfit suits you. I don't think anyone else could pull it off as well as you do."
Pearl looked down, confused. "What's going on?"
Oscar said, "I picked out the outfit myself. But it's Valentine's Day, so there has to be a surprise, right? So..."
"I get it." Pearl finally caught on.
Magdalen's so-called help was to get her here to see Oscar.
Luckily, she hadn't done anything too crazy. Pearl glanced back at the shaky door and smiled awkwardly.
The waiter quickly sorted things out and warmly invited them to the next room. The setup was the same, and the hotel's service was top-notch.
Roses were arranged in the center of the round table, forming a heart shape with the red balloons on the wall.
They sat down, and Pearl lowered her head slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed about her earlier outburst.
"The wind is a bit chilly tonight. Since you're closer to the window, could you close it?" Normally, Oscar wouldn't boss Pearl around.
In the past, if Oscar had dared to order her around, Pearl would never have listened.
But tonight was different; she had a hunch about Oscar's motives and felt remorseful for her earlier outburst. Pearl stood up to shut the window.
Suddenly, the billboard across the street lit up, and the ordinary advertisement turned into Oscar's confession.
Every word hit her right in the feels, and Pearl couldn't help but tear up.
"What's wrong? Not feeling it?" Oscar gently held her shoulders and whispered.
Pearl shook her head. How could she not be feeling it? She was over the moon.
"I didn't know what to plan for Valentine's Day, so I thought, why not confess to you again?" With that, Oscar dropped to one knee and handed Pearl the blue rose from his chest.
"Pearl, I like you, I love you, and I will love you forever. Will you let me take care of you, cherish you, and adore you?" His voice was soft, and every word hit her heart.
Pearl, tears streaming down her face, took the blue rose and nodded like crazy. It took her a minute before she finally said, "Yes, I will."
Then, Oscar stood up and hugged her, spinning her around.
In that moment, it felt like time was just for them, as they held each other and listened to their heartbeats.
"Then open the rose." Oscar's voice whispered in her ear. She looked at him, surprised, and carefully opened the rose.
A ring appeared before her eyes.
Pearl gasped, "Oscar, you're amazing."
"Do you like it?" Oscar smiled. He had put a lot of thought into this Valentine's Day, asking around for advice.
Luckily, Pearl loved it.
How could Pearl not love it? Any woman would.
She stood on tiptoe and gave Oscar a kiss, but as she was about to pull away, Oscar held her by the waist, turning the kiss into a passionate one.
Time seemed to freeze for them, and it wasn't until Pearl was almost out of breath that Oscar let her go.
"I'm starving. Go call the waiter to bring some food." Pearl made the excuse to break the romantic tension.
Oscar had prepared a special dinner, all themed around Valentine's Day.
The presentation and meaning were spot on.
No girl could refuse such a festive setup, but Pearl was still a bit miffed that Oscar had been ignoring her lately.
After dinner, she asked defiantly, "Mr. Brown, is this all you got planned?"
"Of course not. I've asked Magdalen to take care of Christopher. How could it just be this?" Oscar said mysteriously, stealing a kiss as he walked around the table to her side.
Pearl gave him a playful glare, but he just laughed happily.
Oscar, being the gentleman he is, took out two movie tickets from the rose at the center of the table and politely asked, "Mrs. Brown, would you do me the honor of watching a movie with me?"
Pearl shyly nodded.
The cinema was packed, but Oscar had booked tickets in advance. Otherwise, no way they would've gotten in.
He had also prepped drinks. As they walked in, he magically pulled a paper bag from behind, filled with not just drinks but also snacks.
This move made the couples around them super jealous.
By the time the movie ended, it was midnight. Pearl was a bit worried about Christopher and texted Magdalen.
Magdalen replied, telling her to enjoy the holiday and soak up the love.
At that moment, Pearl felt both grateful and thankful to Magdalen.
Leaving the cinema, Oscar suggested they hit up the night market.
Tonight's night market was bound to be different, with special activities for couples on top of the usual stalls.
Pearl was pumped; it had been ages since she felt so relaxed.
"Remember, you gotta hold my hand when it gets crowded later." Pearl reminded him.
She was right; the night market was usually buzzing, and tonight it would be even more packed.
