Chapter 692 A Similar Occurrence
On Oscar's side.
After the meeting, he wanted to call Pearl. Considering the time, he thought that Pearl should have been home by now, so he called the house directly.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered, and Christopher's sweet childlike voice came through. "Daddy!"
"Christopher, why are you answering the phone? What's Mommy doing?" Oscar's voice unconsciously softened and became more gentle when speaking to him.
"I don't know." Christopher sighed. "Mommy hasn't come back since she went out. I wanted to ask you why you kept her for so long."
Oscar's brow furrowed instantly, a sharp sense of unease settling in his chest. Pearl had left the company after delivering the documents. Even if she had to buy other things, she should have been home by now. How could she be delayed until now?
"Christopher, how is everything at home? Has anyone strange come knocking?" Oscar grew more anxious as he spoke.
He had to go home and check. If everything was fine, that would be best. But if there was a problem, at least he could ensure the safety of the kids.
Christopher yawned, took the phone to his room, and checked the surveillance. From the footage, the yard was empty except for two bodyguards patrolling.
"Daddy, no one has come. Everyone is fine. Emily just woke up, and Calliope fed her. I played with her for a while, and now she is sleeping again." After reporting the situation at home, Christopher thought carefully, because Oscar never asked useless questions.
He remembered hearing the men in black when they took Lila to the embassy.
Could it be that they wanted to harm them?
But everything at home was fine. Wait, Pearl was still outside!
Christopher's heart tightened. "Daddy, you need to find Mommy quickly. I'm afraid she's in danger. She promised to bring me KFC, and she never breaks her promises. She wouldn't stay out this long unless something happened."
"I understand, Christopher. Don't be afraid. Your mom and I will be fine. We'll come home safely." After hanging up, Oscar immediately tried to contact Pearl.
But Pearl was already at the police station, making a statement, and had put her phone on silent mode to focus on talking to the police.
Oscar called several times but couldn't get through, each unanswered ring intensifying his worry until it became a nearly paralyzing dread.
Then he remembered that Pearl's car had a tracking device. He quickly checked the car's location on his phone and rushed there as fast as he could.
When he arrived at the scene, he saw three cars, with Pearl's car in the innermost position, where clearly forced to stop. The area was deserted, with a lot of blood on the ground, indicating someone was seriously injured.
'Can the injured person be Pearl?'
The thought made Oscar break out in a cold sweat. He told himself that Pearl knew martial arts and was very capable, but he still couldn't suppress his worry. No matter how capable Pearl was, she was alone. The other side had two cars, so there must have been many people. If he had been there, she wouldn't have been hurt.
So he had to find Pearl quickly and take her to the hospital.
Oscar searched the area continuously, calling Pearl and asking passersby, but found nothing.
Just as he was about to despair, a familiar voice came from behind.
"Oscar."
It was Pearl!
Oscar quickly turned around, ran to her, and hugged her tightly. "You scared me to death. I couldn't find you, and you didn't answer your phone. I was so afraid something had happened to you."
If something had happened to Pearl, he wouldn't be able to go on, let alone Christopher and Emily.
They were so young and needed both parents. How could they grow up well without Pearl?
"I'm sorry. I was making a statement, so I put my phone on silent. I'm fine now. Don't worry." Pearl gently patted his back. "I'm really okay."
"But you're hurt." Oscar released her and looked her over, finding several bloodstains on her dress.
The more he looked, the more his heart ached. "Where are you hurt? Let's go to the hospital now."
"I'm not hurt. It's their blood. My clothes got dirty. If you don't believe me, look for yourself. Do I look injured?" Pearl rolled up her sleeves.
Her smooth arms had only minor bruises, no wounds.
Even so, Oscar wasn't completely reassured. "They won't give up easily. They'll come after us again."
"I'm not afraid of them. Besides, I have you, Oscar. You'll protect us." Pearl's voice was gentle and firm.
No matter what this organization was, she and Oscar could deal with them.
Just like she dealt with those people today.
"I've handed them over to the police. They wouldn't say anything, but I got this from them." Pearl took out a wrapped needle and handed it to Oscar. "They tried to inject this into me, but I managed to stab one of them instead. There's still some liquid left. Please find out what it is."
"Got it." Oscar put the syringe away.
Pearl didn't go into detail about what happened, but he could imagine how dangerous it had been.
If they had succeeded in injecting her, who knew how badly she would have been hurt.
He couldn't let that happen again. "Let's get in the car. I'll take you home. The kids are waiting."
"By the way, if we pass a KFC, please stop. I promised Christopher I'd bring him some. The previous one is cold now. Let's get a new one." Pearl suddenly remembered her promise to Christopher.
Oscar readily agreed.
On the way home, they chatted about many things, and the conversation naturally turned to Desiree.
"I wonder how they're doing. They must be busy with work. Last time, Desiree helped take care of Emily, and I haven't thanked her yet. I'd like to invite them out sometime," Pearl said casually.
