Chapter 174 Surprised by the Attention
Oscar pushed the food towards Pearl. "Do you want me to feed you?"
His tone was very calm.
Pearl didn't believe he would actually feed her.
She said coldly, "I don't want to eat, it's my freedom."
Oscar didn't say anything, but in the next second, he brought the food to Pearl's mouth.
Oscar looked at her quietly.
His gaze was not as indifferent as before.
Pearl was stunned.
He slowly said, "You need to eat."
Pearl was surprised by the attention and quickly took over. "I'll eat."
Afraid that Oscar would continue, she symbolically took a few bites.
Oscar thoughtfully handed her water. "Don't choke on the food."
Pearl wasn't choking, but she was scared by Oscar's behavior.
Before she could say anything, Oscar spoke first, "I asked Harold to book the tickets."
"Tickets to Francina?"
Pearl was surprised.
Oscar replied, "Yes."
He added, "Make sure to tell your parents, so they don't think you've gone missing when you leave with me."
"Okay."
Pearl didn't say much.
Although Oscar had given her a hard time before, this was their first and also the last trip together.
Pearl would go with him.
Oscar pursed his lips and spoke again, "Just now, when I saw the surveillance and you were silent, I thought you admitted it. In the future, if there's anything, you need to tell me."
People have different thoughts, and many of them only believe what they see.
Pearl instinctively glanced at Oscar. "Are you explaining to me?"
Oscar said, "Between us, one of us has to explain."
If he didn't speak, and she didn't speak, the conflicts would only grow bigger.
He wasn't ready to divorce her yet.
Pearl was silent.
She couldn't deny that Oscar was right.
But then again, in their current situation, explanations and doubts were the same.
Pearl still responded, "I see."
"Good. Get some rest early, I still have some documents to handle."
Seeing that she had no intention of continuing to eat, Oscar instinctively reached for the plate.
However, Pearl didn't let him do that.
Pearl said, "If you're busy, go ahead. I need to go downstairs anyway."
"Okay."
Oscar didn't say much.
Pearl carried the plate downstairs.
She sat in the living room.
Oscar's behavior made Pearl think for a long time.
Scarlett said, "Mrs. Brown, Mr. Brown's tone wasn't very good on the phone just now. But I could tell, it seemed like he was standing up for you against Miss Garcia."
Oscar, standing up for her?
Pearl believed he would, but not against Haley.
Haley was Oscar's first love, the person he loved the most. He wouldn't speak harshly to Haley.
Pearl didn't care.
Then, Pearl went back to her room.
The next morning, Pearl got up to make breakfast with Scarlett's help.
Pearl kept instructing Scarlett, explaining all the breakfast cooking techniques.
After finishing breakfast, she and Oscar left for the Brown Group together.
Oscar watched Pearl skillfully drive and asked, "Do you have any thoughts?"
Pearl was taken aback. "Why do you ask?"
Oscar said directly, "If you have any thoughts, I can buy you a car."
Pearl found it ironic to bring up something that never mentioned before. "I'm your secretary. You have so many cars in your garage. Why would I need a car now?"
But seeing Oscar's current behavior, it seemed he wanted to use these things to keep her around.
"You can't always drive my car or take a cab."
Oscar sat in the back seat. Since Pearl was driving, her eyes were on the road, and Oscar couldn't see her facial expression.
But from her tone, Oscar could sense that Pearl wasn't interested in this matter at all.
Pearl said lightly, "I drive your car for work. If I buy a fancy car, people would laugh at you. I am your secretary after all?"
Pearl's words were very clear.
Oscar pursed his lips lightly.
Before he could say anything, Pearl continued. "If I buy a luxury car, given my position, wouldn't people mock me?"
She didn't have a car and spent most of her time working, which she found quite comfortable.
Moreover, she was leaving soon.
A car would be even more unnecessary.
Oscar instead tried to comfort her. "Life is your own."
Pearl didn't respond.
Oscar seemed different from before.
They didn't talk anymore.
They went to the company and were busy with their respective tasks.
Lily was learning quickly, even doing better than Sarah.
Queenie saw this and felt worried. She approached Pearl. "Pearl, you've found two replacements. You've been by Mr. Brown's side for so many years. Are you really leaving?"
Now, only Queenie, Hillary, and the new girl Lily was in the CEO's office
Since Payton had colluded with Mr. Williams, they ended up in jail. And Hillary no longer targeted Pearl, fearing she might get implicated.
After all, everyone knew about the recent events.
In the evening, Oscar took Pearl to Emerald Peak Estate on time.
Aurora personally hosted the dinner, serving all kinds of rare delicacies.
During the meal, there was endless talk about work with Oscar.
"Mr. Brown, Pearl, Emerald Peak Estate has other projects. Should we discuss them over dinner?"
Aurora extended an invitation to them.
Oscar looked at Pearl. "We can give it a try."
"Pearl, I give you a toast."
Aurora raised her glass to Pearl.
Before Pearl could say anything, Oscar intervened. "She's allergic to alcohol, and I'm also quitting drinking recently."
"Then let's toast with juice instead."
Although Aurora maintained a smile on the surface and didn't say anything, she internally questioned the relationship between Oscar and Pearl.
Even though Pearl had been Oscar's secretary for seven years, they were still just boss and subordinate.
Oscar remembering Pearl's habits so well was unusual.
Aurora had said enough and couldn't ignore their presence.
Aurora first spoke to Oscar, "Mr. Brown, there's a fireworks display at Emerald Peak Estate tonight. Shall we go there first? It seems the Hall Group is also here this time."
The Hall Group was a famous real estate tycoon in Willow Creek, holding a piece of land that was a key development project for government .
Most importantly, the Hall Group had mentioned a project that, if collaborated on, raise their reputation both domestically and internationally.
"The assistants are not allowed to attend the fireworks display."
Aurora noticed Oscar's gaze towards Pearl.
