Chapter 421 Injured

Pearl already knew her pants were wet.

Everyone's pants were soaked, so she didn't care.

Truffle hunting always had its downsides.

"I'll change when I get back," Pearl said calmly.

Oscar warned, "If you don't take care of your legs, you'll regret it later."

"It's just for a bit," Pearl shrugged. "I'll make sure to change once I return."

Oscar focused on her legs.

He pulled up her pants.

Pearl noticed everyone staring, feeling uneasy. She stopped him, "What are you doing? It's fine."

Oscar didn't respond, just took off his knee pads and strapped them on Pearl.

Everyone's curiosity grew.

Paloma covered her mouth, looking shocked and excited, like she'd discovered a secret.

'Their relationship isn't simple!'

Oscar tightened the knee pads and said, "These will help."

Pearl glanced at the others, then at him. "Only I have them, they don't. Isn't that unfair? As the leader, you should know better."

She tried to take them off.

Oscar grabbed her hand, "I can't worry about that now. No one will mind."

Pearl met his gaze, feeling a bit guilty for some reason.

"It's okay," Paloma chimed in. "We all say you need protection. We're used to it. You came from far away, so you're not used to many things. Besides, Mr. Brown cares about you. Don't make him worry."

Paloma winked, hinting at something more between them.

"Pearl, don't refuse Mr. Brown's kindness!" others urged.

Their eyes darted between Oscar and Pearl, admiring them as a couple.

To them, it was a happy moment.

Oscar's caring gaze was obvious. Everyone saw his hidden affection.

"Time to head down the mountain!" Luciana led the way.

After helping Pearl, Oscar stood up, his face serious again, "Let's escort them down."

"Okay, Mr. Brown." The soldiers, seeing Oscar's gentle side for the first time, smiled.

Paloma took the basket from Pearl, linking arms with her. "I didn't expect Mr. Brown to care so much about you. Spill, did something happen between you two?"

Pearl didn't expect Paloma to be so nosy. "No, you're overthinking it."

"How could I be overthinking?" Paloma pressed. "I'm young, but I can tell. Mr. Brown likes you. If you two got together, that'd be great. He's strong, you're beautiful. I'm envious. That scene where he held you, it's straight out of a novel."

Paloma described the scene like a story, looking thrilled.

Pearl couldn't feel it. Her feelings for Oscar were mostly bitter.

Seeing Paloma's animated description, she teased, "Don't you like Louis? Why the sudden switch to Oscar? Are you gonna throw a mouse at me again?"

Paloma stopped. "I was just being immature. Don't hold a grudge. Besides, Mr. Mitchell is different from Mr. Brown."

She looked at Pearl and laughed. "Mr. Mitchell is nice to everyone, but Mr. Brown seems to be just nice to you."

"How do you see that? I think he's nice to everyone."

Paloma thought for a moment. "You have a point, but Mr. Brown seems cold to others, not to you. Mr. Mitchell is gentle to everyone, so we all like him."

Speaking of Louis, Paloma had a lot to say.

Oscar followed behind, listening to their conversation.

He heard the name "Louis."

There was no one named Louis in the village.

Seeing their smiling faces while chatting, he knew they liked Louis.

Oscar shifted his attention and noticed someone was missing. "Where's Elijah?" he asked.

Nicholas replied, "He went out early with a few people and Valentina."

Oscar found it strange. "What are they doing?"

"I don't know. Elijah didn't say," Nicholas was clueless too.

Valentina taking Javier out seemed odd.

"Mr. Brown!" someone shouted from the mountain.

The mountain was relatively empty, so the sound traveled far.

Oscar stopped and turned to see Elijah and a few others coming down.

Elijah was supporting Valentina, who didn't look well.

Oscar told Nicholas, "Go help them."

"Yes!"

Pearl also heard the voice and looked.

She saw Nicholas leading a group over.

Oscar waited.

Paloma said, "There are people on the mountain. What are they doing up there?"

"I don't know," Pearl replied.

Paloma looked around. "I see them. They're supporting a woman, and she has a child. She looks weak. I don't know why she went up the mountain, causing trouble for others."

"A woman?" Pearl thought. "Maybe she's someone they rescued."

"Maybe," Paloma said.

After a while, Elijah came down. "Mr. Brown, Valentina is injured."

Valentina looked pale, limping, soaked, and dirty, like she had fallen and twisted her ankle.

Elijah had a basket with a few coffee beans.

Someone else was holding Javier.

Oscar looked at them and asked coldly, "What were you doing on the mountain early in the morning?"

Seeing Oscar's displeased expression, Valentina, feeling guilty, spoke first, "I'm sorry. I wanted to pick some coffee beans from the mountain so you could have the freshest coffee. I didn't expect to fall and cause trouble for everyone."
