Chapter 129 Are You in Such a Hurry
"Mr. Brown, have you forgotten that today is the day you and Pearl are getting divorced and need to go to the court to handle the procedures?" Harold reminded once again.
Upon hearing this, Oscar fell silent!
Oscar's gaze shifted to the calendar. Today marks the end of Oscar and Pearl's three-year term.
It's also the day Oscar and Pearl agreed to divorce.
How time flies.
In the blink of an eye, Oscar and Pearl have been married for three years.
However, Harold knows Oscar better than anyone.
Oscar, feeling agitated, adjusted his tie and looked at Harold. While his tone got colder, he said, "Did Pearl tell you?"
Harold felt Oscar's tone was off, a bit intimidating, but all Harold could do was reply, "Yes."
"Do you have a good relationship with Pearl? She told you about this before me?" Oscar asked again.
Harold nervously replied, "We just chatted casually as colleagues, and that was it."
Harold always felt like Oscar was looking at him as if he were a rival, and added, "Mr. Brown, my relationship with Pearl is very normal. Apart from work, we hardly speak!"
Oscar felt frustrated.
Yesterday, Pearl showed little enthusiasm towards Oscar, as she was probably thinking about resigning and getting away from Oscar.
Pearl's thoughts were quite idealistic.
Resigning the day before the divorce.
Oscar remained expressionless. With no action, he continued to work at his desk.
Seeing that Oscar showed no intention of leaving, Harold understood.
The idea of divorce was solely Pearl's wish.
Mr. Brown never actually considered divorcing Pearl.
Harold didn't say anything more. Anything he said now would be wrong.
Once the bonuses are deducted, it won't be easy for him to go home for Christmas.
However, in less than three minutes, Oscar's phone rang.
At this point, Pearl had been waiting in court for almost half an hour.
Knowing Oscar well, she was sure that Oscar would be punctual in court for the divorce proceedings.
But she waited for Oscar in vain.
She had to call to inquire about the situation.
Although they hadn't discussed divorce the day before, it had been a topic of conversation recently, and they had both agreed. Pearl thought they would both remember.
That's how Pearl felt.
There was no need to say more.
Clearly, Oscar had probably forgotten.
So, Pearl thought she'd give him a gentle reminder.
She made the call, but Oscar glanced at it and didn't answer. Instead, he looked at Harold and said, "You take it."
"Okay."
Harold quickly took the call.
Answering the phone, Harold said, "Pearl."
Harold's response made Pearl pause, then she said, "Let Oscar take the call."
Harold looked at Oscar.
Oscar said, "Tell her I'm busy."
"Mr. Brown is busy right now and can't talk," Harold replied.
Pearl frowned and asked, "Did he forget? Harold, remind him to come to the court to handle the divorce proceedings!"
Harold looked at Oscar again and relayed his message, "Mr. Brown is very busy right now and can't make it to the divorce proceedings today."
Upon hearing this, Pearl was speechless.
She had thought she would be able to get divorced today, had prepared everything and was waiting in court, only to hear that Oscar was too busy to make it.
This was not the outcome Pearl had hoped for. She asked, "When will he be available then?"
Harold responded, "We don't know exactly how long it will be until Mr. Brown is available, but he won't be able to go to court today."
After saying this, Harold received another message from Oscar and added, "Pearl, you're late for work today. Hurry to the office, or your pay will be deducted."
Pearl pursed her lips and asked, "Don't you know I've resigned?"
"Resigned, but Mr. Brown hasn't agreed yet. There's no one to take over your position, so you still need to come to work." Harold said kindly, "Pearl, you can leave the court now and come to the company."
Pearl felt very helpless.
The divorce proceedings weren't completed.
She still had to work.
But this was something Pearl hadn't thought about.
Someone needed to take over Pearl's job before she could leave the company, then there would be no more gossip.
Pearl asked, "Once there's someone new to take over my job, can I resign smoothly?"
"In theory, yes."
"Okay, I'll have the HR department select a new person."
After saying that, Pearl hung up the phone.
Harold breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had completed a difficult task.
Oscar, listening attentively, knew that Pearl wasn't determined to divorce, nor would she leave the company, so he relaxed.
He was just waiting for Pearl to return.
Pearl left the court and drove back.
Kittie was still worried about Pearl and sent her a message asking when she would be back.
Pearl didn't reply immediately.
On the other hand, Janetta, who had been worried about Pearl last time, had called numerous times.
Although Pearl eventually reassured Janetta not to worry, this time, knowing about the divorce, Janetta inquired about Pearl's situation again.
Thinking Pearl was single now, she suggested celebrating at a bar.
But since the divorce didn't go through, Pearl wasn't single and couldn't celebrate; she had to go back to work.
Pearl arrived at the company in twenty minutes.
She went to the HR department.
Upon arrival, Pearl asked directly, "Are there any suitable candidates?"
The head of the HR department replied, "Pearl, all the job positions are filled. We may need to recruit again, so it will take some time."
Pearl didn't want to cause trouble, as she was the one in a hurry. She said, "I'll come personally to select, so that it won't bother you. Let me know when it's time, okay?"
"Sure."
The job posting attracted a large number of applicants.
There were experienced candidates, fresh graduates, and the competition was fierce with thousands of applicants.
But in the end, only one could be chosen.
There were already many resumes, and more kept coming in.
Pearl remembered when she first arrived at the Brown Group, she was still inexperienced and aimed to be Oscar's secretary.
But she started as an assistant, handling various tasks.
Step by step, she made her way closer to Oscar.
In this situation now, it felt like looking back at her past.
Seven years had passed quickly, and Pearl had matured from a naive young woman to her current self.
Thinking about it, youth couldn't be relived.
So, she focused on the resumes.
Pearl carefully reviewed the information, earnestly selecting a suitable candidate for Oscar.
It was late at night.
Oscar came out of his office, and Pearl's desk light was still on.
Seeing Pearl earnestly screening resumes, Harold said, "Pearl has already had the HR department post the job opening and is still reviewing resumes. There are so many resumes, she won't finish them all in one night!"
Oscar pursed his lips, with serious expression , and walked over.
Pearl heard footsteps, looked up, and saw Oscar.
Flipping through the documents in her hand, she politely asked, "Mr. Brown, are you done with your work?"
Oscar didn't respond to Pearl's question but stood by the desk, looking at the neatly categorized resumes in Pearl's hands, and coldly asked, "Are you in such a hurry?"
