Chapter 711 Singing Competition
Pearl nodded. She wasn't the best singer, but she could hold a tune.
Christopher clapped excitedly. "That's awesome! Mom, Dad, the school is having a parent-child event tomorrow, a singing competition. Can you come with me?"
It was the weekend, speacially planned by the school to accommodate parents who were typically swamped with work during weekdays.
If Oscar didn't have anything urgent, he'd definitely go with them to the school. But he had a new project on his plate.
Harold was busy trying to win back Desiree, so Oscar had to handle the project himself.
"Honey, how about you go with Christopher to school the day after tomorrow? I have to meet a client that day," Oscar suggested to Pearl while waiting at a red light.
Pearl nodded in agreement. 'Both parents should take care of the child, but as a couple, they should understand and support each other. Whoever is available should step up.'
Oscar was working hard to provide a better life for the family, and she got that.
Christopher was a really understanding kid and never made a fuss. He hugged Pearl's arm. "Dad, you go ahead and work. As long as Mom is with me, it's fine. The teacher said one parent is enough, but if both come, they are very welcome."
On the way back, the family of three chatted and laughed, and soon they were home.
Maybe sensing their arrival, Emily woke up and yawned. Calliope, who was sitting nearby, quickly prepared the formula and placed the bottle near Emily's mouth. Smelling the milk, Emily drank eagerly. When the family of three returned, they saw this heartwarming scene.
"I'll cook dinner tonight. I'll make the burgers he likes. You go play with them." Pearl gave Oscar a kiss, then tied on an apron and went into the kitchen. The living room was filled with laughter.
When dinner was ready, Christopher went to wash his hands. Once seated at the dining table, he picked up a burger and started taking big bites. "Mom, your burgers are so good, just as good as the ones from the restaurant!"
"If you like them, I'll make them often. Have some milk too." Pearl placed a glass of warm milk in front of him.
Watching Christopher eat and drink heartily, she also felt her appetite increase. After that, they enjoyed some warm family time, and before they knew it, it was bedtime.
After washing up, Christopher came to Pearl's room with his blanket. "Mom, Dad, can I sleep with you tonight?"
"Of course, Christopher. Come on up." Pearl moved over.
So the three of them slept in one bed, with Christopher in the middle and his parents on either side. Soon, the room was filled with the sound of even breathing.
It wasn't until the alarm clock rang the next morning that they got up. Oscar went downstairs to prepare breakfast, while Pearl and Christopher washed up together in the bathroom.
"Mom, have you decided what song to sing today?" Christopher asked while washing his face.
Pearl nodded. "Of course, I decided last night."
For adults, it was just a kindergarten singing competition, nothing significant. But for kids, it was a whole different ball game. Who wouldn't want their parents to shine?
She definitely wanted to nail it and make Christopher proud.
On the way to kindergarten, Pearl even popped in her headphones and listened to the song she had prepped a few more times.
When they pulled up to the kindergarten entrance, she held Christopher's hand and walked him to school.
Christopher's class was on the third floor, and most of the kids and parents were already there. When Pearl walked into the classroom, a lot of heads turned.
The reason was simple: Pearl stood out among the parents. Today, she wore a black long dress that highlighted her figure and gave her a strong presence.
Some kids even ran up to Christopher and whispered, "Your mom is so pretty. I wish my mom was as pretty as yours."
"All our moms are beautiful," Christopher corrected his classmate.
Of course, in his heart, he thought his mom was the most beautiful in the world.
The school had already set up chairs for the parents, and the classroom was big enough to fit a few. Pearl took her seat, and Christopher stood beside her, standing tall.
"Mrs. Brown, you have such a great figure. How do you keep it up? Can you teach me?" a fellow mom asked Pearl. "I don't eat much, but I can't lose the belly fat."
Women loved to chat about beauty and fitness when they got together.
Pearl was happy to share. She pulled out her phone and found a few videos she had saved. "I do yoga at home. These moves are really effective. Eating less will help you lose weight, but to get rid of fat, I think exercise is key."
"Let's add each other on Facebook, and you can send me the videos. My daughter plays well with your son and often praises him at home," the fellow mom said, clearly fond of Christopher.
Who wouldn't like Christopher? He was not only cute but also very polite, always greeting people sweetly.
They chatted and laughed until the homeroom teacher came over and announced the start of the singing competition.
It was called a competition, but it was really just each parent performing. Regardless of how well they sang, the homeroom teacher would lead the applause.
When it was Pearl's turn, she stood up and sang a cappella, her voice making the room erupt in applause.
"Mrs. Brown, you sang so well," the fellow mom gave a thumbs up.
After all the parents had sung, it was time for the awards. The homeroom teacher had prepared many awards, and each parent received a big red flower.
"Mom, your flower is a bit bigger than mine. We have matching parent-child flowers!" Christopher took out the red flower he received yesterday and pinned it to his clothes.
Pearl also pinned her flower to her dress. Although the flowers were the most common kind, they held special meaning for the children.
She then accompanied Christopher for a walk around the school. While walking on the playground, a few parents approached, and one of them bumped into Pearl before walking away.
Pearl didn't mind. They were all parents, and she wasn't hurt, so there was no need to make a big deal out of it.
