Chapter 109 Kidnapping
Arthur furrowed his brow and continued to smoke. "Don't speak so harshly. If I have money, why wouldn't I repay it? I will repay in the future as long as you lend it to me."
"I don't have money to lend you," Pearl said. "I have other matters to attend to, so I won't chat with you."
Seeing her walking away without a glance back, not taking him seriously at all, Arthur threw the cigarette on the ground and said fiercely, "Pearl, don't push me to turn things around with you. It won't end well!"
Pearl simply drove away. Pearl knew exactly what Arthur wanted. They were all greedy people. Once Pearl gave in, they would keep asking for money in the future.
Coincidentally, Seraphina witnessed this scene hiding in the corner. Seeing Arthur frustrated and fierce, harboring resentment toward Pearl, Seraphina thought of another way.
If she made Pearl vanish from this world, no one could threaten her anymore, not even her unborn child. If she took them down, maybe she could marry Oscar. A cold smile crept onto her lips.
Pearl was driving when Janetta called, so she put on her Bluetooth headset.
Janetta finished work and asked, "Are you really divorcing Oscar?"
Pearl replied, "I've given him the divorce agreement. After the cooling-off period, I'll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau."
Janetta wanted to ask, "Did Oscar agree?"
Pearl hesitated for a moment and said, "He didn't say, but he didn't disagree either. We have a three-year contract, and we will divorce when it expires. It's an unspoken agreement. He mentioned divorce before, so there's no need to wait for his response."
Waiting for his response would mean she still had hopes, and there was no need to embarrass herself.
"Since you say so, I support you," Janetta said, thinking that Pearl must be feeling down. She added, "Come see me later, let's go out."
"Okay." Pearl agreed. "I'll come see you in an hour."
After that, Pearl hung up the phone.
Pearl had missed her hospital appointment last time due to Oscar's delay. This time, Pearl wanted to have a thorough check-up. She had become smarter and didn't want too many people to know about her pregnancy, so she went to a private hospital and had already made an appointment with the doctor.
Pearl used the VIP channel for more confidentiality. Arriving at the underground parking lot, Pearl parked the car and felt a chill in the air. She instinctively tightened her clothes.
The underground parking lot was dim, and she had a bad feeling. She started to feel scared. Maybe today wasn't a good day to see the doctor.
Just as Pearl had this thought, a hand covered her nose from behind. Pearl widened her eyes and struggled desperately, but the other person was too strong, and she couldn't break free. There was no one around. No way to call for help.
Tears welled up in Pearl's eyes as she felt fear and helplessness. The drugs took effect, and she gradually passed out.
Pearl regretted it deeply. She should have turned back in time if she had a bad feeling. Things wouldn't have ended up like this. Pearl passed out completely, and her phone slipped from her hand.
The screen displayed her contacts, but she was already unconscious.
An hour and a half later, Oscar's phone buzzed.
The phone buzzed, and Harold glanced at it, saying, "Mr. Brown, it's Miss Clark calling."
Oscar furrowed his brow, looking uninterested. "Which Miss Clark? Don't answer!"
Harold hesitated, then looked at Oscar again. "It's Janetta Clark, Pearl's friend. What if it's about Pearl?"
At the mention of Pearl, Oscar's face turned sour, and he said coldly, "It's just about the divorce. Don't answer!"
Harold had no choice but to hang up. Just after hanging up, the phone rang again.
"Mr. Brown, there might be something urgent," Harold said.
Oscar was reading today's newspaper. He looked up as the phone rang again; this time, it was Janetta calling. Normally, Janetta's calls wouldn't reach him. If they did, it must be related to Pearl.
Oscar closed the newspaper. "Give it to me."
Harold handed the phone to Oscar, who answered urgently. "What do you mean by not answering the phone, Oscar? Are you really indifferent to Pearl's well-being?"
Hearing her urgency, Oscar bit his lip. "What happened to her?"
"Pearl's phone is unreachable!" Janetta said. "She promised to meet me in an hour but didn't show up. She's always punctual and wouldn't disappear without reason. I suspect something happened to her!"
Oscar's heart tightened. All his grievances disappeared at this moment, and he sat up abruptly. "Did she mention where she was going?"
Janetta regretted not asking more questions. "I didn't ask, I don't know."
"I'll figure it out."
Oscar didn't have time to talk to Janetta. Finding Pearl was the priority, so he quickly hung up the phone. His hand was still on a drip, but Oscar tore it off without hesitation. Enduring the pain, he stood up and said to Harold, "Prepare the car!"
Harold was still worried about him, but finding Pearl was urgent, so he quickly arranged for the car to be ready.
Oscar put on his clothes and walked out of the room. Just then, the doctor came for rounds and called out, "Mr. Brown, where are you going? Your body hasn't fully recovered from the surgery. You shouldn't engage in strenuous activities!"
Oscar can't handle all that stuff.
Just as Janetta had said, Pearl wouldn't disappear without reason. If Pearl missed their appointment, something must have happened.
The car was parked at the entrance of the inpatient building. Oscar got in and said, "Have you found out where Pearl went today?"
"She went to the police station and then to a private hospital," Harold replied.
Oscar fell into deep thought. Why did she go to a private hospital? He remembered that she had gone to the hospital last time for irregular menstruation but didn't follow through. And now she was at a private hospital again.
"Find out what she went there for."
Oscar suddenly realized that Pearl had been acting strangely lately. She was eager to divorce him and push him away, which was very unusual.
"Mr. Oscar, we can't find out."
"We'll go there first."
When they arrived at the private hospital, Pearl's car was parked in the underground garage, and they quickly found it.
"Mr. Brown, the car is here, but she's not," Harold said.
Seeing the phone lying next to the car, Harold picked it up. "The phone was dropped on the ground."
The car was there, but Pearl wasn't. The phone was on the ground, and her bag was gone. The scene looked like a kidnapping.
Oscar's expression turned serious as he opened the phone. His name was the first on the contact list. At that moment, Pearl must have been trying to seek help.
Oscar became anxious as he checked the call records and saw that she had spoken to Janetta an hour and a half ago.
The police station was half an hour away from this hospital.
"Check the surveillance footage!" Oscar ordered.
There were cameras everywhere, and the footage would capture the scene.
In the surveillance video, Pearl was attacked from behind by someone wearing a mask, making it impossible to see their face.
After Pearl fell unconscious, the person carried her away.
"Mr. Brown, we've found Pearl's whereabouts!"
