Chapter 212 Who is the Child's Father?

In her desperation, she pounded on Oscar's back with all her might, shouting, "Who are you? Let me go, let me go!"

Oscar ignored her, letting her hit and curse him as he strode forward.

Pearl was too anxious to think straight; all she wanted was to escape his grasp.

She'd only been in this new place for a few days and didn't know if there were thieves or other dangers around.

Fearing harm, her first instinct was to run.

But no matter how much she pounded, the person showed no intention of hurting her.

This wasn't how a thief would act.

And despite her loud cries, he seemed unafraid. Could it be that...

Just as she realized the truth, he set her down on the ground.

When she saw Oscar's face clearly, Pearl's expression changed. "You..."

The words caught in her throat. The rift between her and Oscar was too deep to bridge, leaving no room for conversation.

She shut her mouth, unwilling to face Oscar, and quickly started to walk away.

"Running away at the sight of me, feeling guilty?" Oscar said coldly.

Pearl stopped in her tracks, pondering another question. During her absence, Oscar hadn't come looking for her.

Given how she had treated him, and knowing he was a man who valued his reputation, she was sure he wouldn't pursue her further. Divorce seemed inevitable.

If Oscar had wanted to find Pearl, he would have done so immediately.

Pearl's way of separating from him, and his delay in seeking her out, suggested he had a new obsession.

"I thought I made myself clear. The divorce agreement is all set. Just sign it, and you'll be free. Why are you here? We've come this far; things have taken an ugly turn. Or has Mr. Brown already set a court date for our divorce?" Pearl asked tentatively.

With her back turned to Oscar, she couldn't see his expression or emotions, only hearing his determined footsteps drawing near.

She had no intention of fleeing.

Even if she wanted to escape, if Oscar wanted to catch her, he would find her no matter how far she ran.

The main reason was that Pearl couldn't abandon her friends and family. If she truly never saw Oscar again, she would have to give up many things.

Pearl hoped Oscar would give up on her.

She also hoped Oscar would cherish Haley. His reluctance to divorce was merely due to his habit of having Pearl around and his inability to adapt to a new life quickly.

Pearl understood his reasons for not wanting a divorce but hoped he could give everyone a dignified conclusion.

As the footsteps drew nearer, Pearl instinctively swallowed until the familiar scent was right beside her, leaving her breathless.

A hand suddenly gripped her neck, pinning her against the wall.

She was trapped against the wall, surrounded by his fierce aura, dangerous and thrilling, making her momentarily forget to breathe as she stared into Oscar's grim face.

His cold gaze fixed on her, his thin lips parting to say, "Divorce? Pearl, how dare you?"

His hand tightened, as if he wanted to strangle her.

Pearl felt his anger, the suffocation from his grip. She grasped his hand, struggling to say, "Oscar, what are you doing? Will you be satisfied if you strangle me?"

Oscar's eyes were sharp and indifferent as he said, "Shouldn't I strangle you? You betrayed me. Killing you would be too lenient!"

The mere thought of her betrayal, her intimate relations with another man, infuriated him.

The fact that she was carrying another man's child ignited a fire within him.

He wanted to kill both Pearl and her lover!

Pearl, however, didn't get it. She furrowed her brows and argued, "Don't talk nonsense. When did I ever betray you? Our divorce was part of the original contract. I’ve upheld my end of the bargain, but you haven't. You..."

"Then what about the child in your belly?" Oscar shouted, his anger palpable.

Pearl's pupils contracted in shock.

The sudden revelation that he knew about her pregnancy caught her off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless.

Seeing her stunned expression, Oscar knew it was true. He sneered coldly, "No words to say? I've never been betrayed in my life, and you're the first. How should I punish you?"

Pearl felt the heat and danger emanating from his large hand. She wondered how he had found her so quickly after days of separation. It was clear that he now knew about her pregnancy.

Seeing the murderous look in Oscar's eyes, she dared not tell him the truth. Protecting her belly with one hand, she said, "Oscar, even if I am pregnant, I haven't violated our contract. You said we wouldn't interfere with each other. I hope you keep your promise. Hardly anyone knows about our marriage. If we divorce, you can remarry without any impact!"

"Who is the child's father?" Oscar asked through gritted teeth.

Pearl's hands instinctively trembled, and she couldn't meet his eyes. "What does it matter to you? It certainly isn't you!"

"Is it Magee's?" Oscar wanted to know the father of the child. "Who exactly is Magee? Adrian..."

"It's not Adrian!" Pearl said decisively.

"Then who is it?" Oscar was curious about the man Pearl was willing to protect, someone who had never appeared.

Pearl replied, "That's my privacy. There's no need to tell you. Mr. Brown, it's already late. I need to go back and rest. I have work tomorrow."

Pearl tried to avoid Oscar's hand, wanting to escape.

Now that he knew she was pregnant, the child in her belly was likely in danger.

She didn't want to lose her child.

Seeing her attempt to leave, Oscar's face turned cold. He pulled her back into his arms, trapping her.

Pearl began to struggle, trying to break free from his grip, becoming agitated. "Let me go! I have nothing to do with you anymore. Don't harass me, or I'll call the police!"

Her rejection only fueled Oscar's anger. Grabbing her shoulders, he said sharply, "Is this man so important? You like him, but he has never been there when you needed him! What is there to like about him? He can't even support you and your child, and you still have to work. What's so great about him? He's just a useless man!"

"Oscar!"

Pearl shouted, her eyes coldly staring at him. "Even if he disappeared, even if I never see him again in this life, he is someone I once loved. I won't allow you to speak of him that way!"

Oscar rarely saw Pearl show such a cold expression, especially for another man.

His anger, unable to find an outlet, led him to pull Pearl into a tight embrace and kiss her forcefully.

Pearl was taken aback by his forcefulness, trying to push him away by placing her hands on his chest. Oscar wouldn't allow her to resist. He pinned her hands above her head. Overwhelmed by jealousy, he lost control, dominating her with his kiss.

"Oscar, let me go," Pearl pleaded, trying to evade him, pounding on his chest.

Oscar pressed her against the wall, his hands sliding down her waist and into her skirt.
