Chapter 475 Trouble
"Get down!" Louis yelled, tackling Pearl to the ground.
The camp went on high alert.
Oscar quickly deployed his forces, and Jeffery rushed to Pearl's side. Barbara and Adrian joined the main troops to counter the attack.
Louis tried to take Pearl away, but Jeffery blocked him. "Mr. Mitchell, Oscar said no one should move during this operation. And Carol wants no involvement with the Eldorians."
Louis's eyes narrowed.
Just as he was about to speak, Pearl grabbed his wrist angrily. "Did you start this chaos on purpose?"
Why was Louis the only one calm, wanting to take her away?
They said they wanted to take her back to the Eldorians but offered no antidote for Oscar's poison.
"It wasn't me," Louis said firmly.
He hated war and wanted his country as strong as Tranquiloria, but he also hated Tranquiloria.
If Pearl wasn't here, he wouldn't have come.
Now she was misunderstanding him.
Pearl stayed silent, eyes full of doubt.
Louis sighed, "Pearl, it's not safe here. But if you come with me..."
"What good would that do? Endless wealth and luxury?" Pearl mocked.
Eldorian nobles might enjoy luxuries, but what about the commoners and slaves?
Louis continued, "It's not like that. Pearl, you're my sister; you were always meant to be an Eldorian. Your identity is something you were born with. Back then, you..."
"Back then, what?"
Pearl's memory was a mess, and she was sensitive about the past, cutting Louis off.
"We should head back to the tent. There will likely be wounded soon," Jeffery said, trying to lead her away.
But Pearl sensed something was off and pushed Jeffery away. "Are you hiding something from me?"
Jeffery's behavior seemed like a distraction.
Jeffery smiled. "What could I be hiding? I just don't want you upset."
Pearl didn't believe him.
Moments ago, Louis mentioned RavenWing could help Jeffery. Now Louis was here, and Jeffery was trying to take her away.
"I'm not going with either of you." Pearl struggled and distanced herself from Jeffery.
Jeffery panicked and tried to explain, but someone rushed in front of Pearl, pointing a gun at Jeffery.
Seeing the misunderstanding, Jeffery quickly said, "No, I have no intention of hurting her."
"Ms. Harris, come with me," said the man with the gun, one of Oscar's subordinates assigned to protect Pearl.
He sensed Pearl was in danger and intervened immediately.
Jeffery bit his lip, knowing it wasn't the right time to follow. He just stood there, watching Pearl disappear.
Louis, hands behind his back, sneered. "Think you're clever, huh?"
He had hoped to distract Pearl and take her away, but Oscar's men had intervened.
His plan to take Pearl back to the Eldorians was now impossible.
And it was all Jeffery's fault!
Jeffery tried to speak, but Louis cut him off, "You better find a way to bring her back to the Eldorians!"
Two hours later.
"Something's wrong!" The urgent shout echoed through the camp, alarming everyone.
Pearl rushed out of the tent, seeing many injured returning.
She was stunned; Oscar, Elijah, and Nicholas were missing. Suddenly, a dirt-covered figure appeared.
Seeing those anxious eyes, Pearl panicked. "Elijah! Where's Oscar? Why don't I see him?"
Elijah's eyes filled with sorrow. He lowered his head. "Ms. Harris, Mr. Brown... he didn't make it."
Pearl's legs gave out, and she fell backward.
Jeffery caught her just in time.
Pearl felt all her strength leave her. "Elijah, are you lying? This can't be true!"
Elijah lowered his head. "Ms. Harris, Mr. Brown was shot and fell into the river. We searched but couldn't find his body. That river is full of man-eating crocodiles and giant pythons."
Pearl, already weak, felt numbness spread through her body.
Images of Oscar being shot and falling into the water flashed in her mind.
Pearl screamed and fainted from the shock.
When she woke up, she saw Jeffery, Elijah, Barbara, and Adrian.
But no Oscar.
She had told Jeffery to find a cure for Oscar's poison, no matter what. She was willing to do anything to restore his health; she couldn't bear to see him suffer.
Oscar's absence was unbearable.
She couldn't stay in bed. She threw off the covers and tried to get up, but Jeffery held her down. "Carol, you're anemic. You shouldn't be moving. Nicholas is still searching for Oscar. As long as we haven't found his body, there's hope."
Pearl understood, but Elijah had said the river was dangerous.
They couldn't find Oscar's body, which likely meant it had been devoured.
Pearl couldn't bear to think about it.
She cried out in pain. "No, I have to find him myself. I have to bring him back!"
She didn't believe Oscar was dead, and no one could stop her. In the end, Jeffery accompanied Pearl, searching along the riverbank day after day.
Three days passed with no news. The Allied Forces and Kevin's troops began their offensive against the Eldorians, capturing a third of their territory.
Given the current situation, Pearl couldn't stay with the Eldorians any longer!
