Chapter 368 What If She Is Special

Pearl didn't want him to feel guilty. He'd done everything he could for her. Life's unpredictable, and she accepted it calmly. She just hoped he wouldn't carry too much burden.

Oscar felt even more overwhelmed, his emotions in turmoil. He could save everyone except her, and that helplessness was crushing. He didn't want her to see his reddened eyes, so he held her tightly and kissed her forehead to relieve her stress and pain. He wished he could take on Pearl's pain, even if it meant enduring twice as much himself.

Pearl was gently placed on the hospital bed. She held Oscar's hand, trying to give him courage, and also giving herself courage. She could survive. She would definitely survive.

Soon, Jeffery arrived. This was the hospital Oscar had invested in. It had the most advanced equipment, but Oscar knew only Jeffery could save Pearl. So he didn't let the doctors in and waited for Jeffery.

"How is she?" Jeffery asked.

Oscar replied, "She's sweating all over, says she's in pain but doesn't know where, and there are bruises on her arm."

Jeffery entered the sterilized room, put on a new white coat, mask, and gloves. Pearl lay on the bed in a daze, her face covered in cold sweat, her lips pale, and her face devoid of any color. Jeffery examined her; the poison wasn't neutralized, and the antidote was just experimental.

They all had hope, thinking Kevin had the antidote. After all, the person closest to RavenWing was Kevin. But their hopes were shattered. They had gone through so much trouble, set up so many traps, only to end up with nothing.

Jeffery drew a vial of Pearl's blood. Even though the antidote was experimental, it had at least a temporary effect, which meant there was still a glimmer of hope. They couldn't rely on others to develop the antidote. They had to do it themselves. And the most effective method now was to use his blood to sustain Pearl.

Jeffery, without hesitation, cut new wounds over the old ones and poured blood in the cross bracelet. Only then did Pearl's body stop trembling and return to a state of calm. Afterward, Jeffery skillfully bandaged his own wound with one hand. From his initial clumsiness in bandaging himself, he had now become perfect at it.

He turned to get a blanket for Pearl but felt a wave of dizziness. He steadied himself, looking at the bloodline on his arm, frowning slightly. He hid everything back under his sleeve. After composing himself, he went out.

"Pearl should be fine now," Jeffery told them.

"Ms. Harris is safe, that's great!" Everyone present was happy that Pearl was out of danger. Oscar looked at Jeffery. Although he felt some relief for Pearl, he also knew the price Jeffery had paid. With a heavy heart, he said to them, "You can all go now."

"Oscar, don't you want us to stay with Ms. Harris?"

"No need. I'm here," Oscar said calmly.

"Alright, then we'll go elsewhere." They had other tasks to attend to.

After everyone left, Oscar walked over to Jeffery. "How are you?"

Jeffery smiled lightly, "I can hold on." They sat down on a nearby bench.

"What can I do to save you?" Oscar asked.

Jeffery shook his head. "Don't worry about me, just worry about Pearl."

Oscar hesitated for a moment, then said, "Have you ever thought that Pearl might worry about you too?"

Jeffery was dazed for a long time; he had never considered this. He had already seen Pearl as his hope for living. As long as she was alive, he could live fully. But he hadn't considered his own life and death. He even felt that he was alive for Pearl. If it weren't for her saving him, he would have died long ago and wouldn't have become an experimental subject. After all, the process was too painful.

Jeffery said, "Don't tell her!"

"If you're in danger, she'll know."

Jeffery's lips curved into a smile, indifferent to life and death. "I won't die so soon. But if I do, just tell her I died of an illness."

Oscar frowned tightly.

If it were the old him, he might have been that selfish. He didn't want Pearl to have someone else in her heart. But Jeffery was different. Jeffery's dedication to Pearl required no reciprocation. How could Oscar be so heartless?

Jeffery turned to Oscar. "You don't want her to be sad either. If she remembers, she'll definitely be heartbroken."

Oscar pressed his lips together and changed the subject. "Do you have any family? Do you need me to help you find them?"

He and Barbara had been in The Crimson Eclipse Society since they were young and didn't know where home was. He wondered if Jeffery missed home.

"No need," Jeffery said without hesitation. "Wherever I am, that's my home!"

After saying that, Jeffery stood up, hands in his pockets, and said, "We can't rely on others for hope anymore. I'll find a way to make the antidote. You take good care of Pearl. But there's something strange."

"What is it?" Oscar asked.

Jeffery said, "RavenWing's poison is potent, but it hasn't completely invaded Pearl's body. Her child is healthy. Even with my blood sustaining her, the child should have been affected. I don't quite understand this. Pearl's body has developed antibodies to protect the child."

Oscar fell into deep thought. There were many mysteries in Pearl's past that hadn't been solved.

"When you first met Pearl, was she ever used as an experimental subject?" Oscar speculated that Pearl might have been experimented on like Jeffery.

"When I knew her, she was different from Barbara and me. She was the protected one. She had a period of freedom. I don't think she would have been an experimental subject," Jeffery guessed. "But I'm not sure. Can you guarantee there's any humanity left in The Crimson Eclipse Society? This is just my guess, unless she's very special."

"What if she is?" Oscar asked again.

Jeffery had thought about it too but found it unlikely. However, Pearl was the only one who escaped and remained clean, and she had lost her memory of that time. Everything seemed too coincidental, which made him very puzzled.

"As long as Pearl is okay, everything is good," Jeffery said. "I won't talk to you anymore. I need to get back to the lab."

"Alright."

Oscar had a bold guess, but he wanted to confirm it.

Elijah and Nicholas both came to Barbara's side. Elijah had a task, while Nicholas was complaining, "Why did you act so quickly and make Ms. Harris drink it? It was because Ms. Harris drank it that she relapsed. If you had waited a bit, maybe we wouldn't have had to go through all this trouble. What if it was poison? Were you trying to kill Ms. Harris?"

Nicholas had been nagging all the way, and Elijah was annoyed. "How was I supposed to know it was an experimental product? You would have acted even faster than me!"

Nicholas retorted, "I'm not like you."

"You're just Monday morning quarterbacking!" Elijah said. "You always talk non-stop. Oscar didn't blame me, but you did. Are you a dog?"

"You're the dog!" Nicholas snapped back.

"You're a dog!"

"You!"

They repeated, almost coming to blows. Their voices were so loud that Barbara, who was in the hospital room, heard them. When she heard that the antidote was an experimental product and not a real antidote, her face changed. She immediately got out of bed. Despite her injuries and a broken leg, she had crutches and hobbled towards the door. She opened the door and saw them barking at each other like dogs.

"Are you done?" Barbara frowned. "What did you just say? Pearl's poison isn't cured?"

Elijah got even angrier. "You're a prisoner now. What right do you have to question me!"

"I suggest you speak nicely!" Barbara lost her patience too.

"Stop yelling." Elijah had no good impression of her. "If you keep yelling, I will..."

"What will you do?" Barbara interrupted, stepping right up to him, standing tall and unafraid. "Go ahead, hit me! I dare you!"

Seeing this, Elijah pressed his lips together, not daring to make a move. He wouldn't hit a woman!
