Chapter 583 Almost Had a Car Accident

So, everyone realized they couldn't mess with Christopher and just went back to playing the game like normal.

After dinner, Christopher was all about heading home, so Pearl had to ask the director for some time off.

The director wasn't too happy about it since there was a show early the next morning. But after Pearl kept pushing, he finally gave in, as long as she was back by morning.

The country roads were a mess after the heavy rain, all muddy and stuff. But Pearl's got mad driving skills, so she handled it like a pro.

After a bumpy ride, they hit the highway, and Pearl shot a text to Oscar to meet up in the downtown commercial street.

The road was pretty empty, and Pearl was cruising along just fine.

Out of nowhere, a huge truck from the opposite lane smashed through the median and came straight at them.

"Mom, watch out for the truck!" Christopher yelled.

Pearl was already on it, flooring the gas and swerving left as hard as she could.

The truck driver swerved too, like he was aiming right at them.

Pearl muttered a curse and broke through the barrier, betting on whether the truck would follow. If it did, this was definitely planned.

The slope wasn't too steep, and Pearl gripped the wheel tight as she said, "Christopher, hold on tight!"

"I got it," Christopher replied, eyes glued ahead, not even crying.

The car bounced over some rocks and finally stopped when it hit a big tree.

Pearl didn't waste a second, unbuckling her seatbelt, climbing to the back to unbuckle Christopher, and opening the car door.

"Christopher, get out first, be careful, and run forward as soon as you're out," Pearl said, spotting a figure on the road and getting a bad feeling.

Christopher got out, and she followed, quickly checking the road and seeing someone standing there.

Without thinking, she scooped up Christopher and started running.

"They're both fine. Go after them, get the kid," one of the guys on the road shouted, making their intentions clear.

Pearl smirked, having guessed right. They were after Christopher.

No matter why, they had to run.

The path was rough, especially at night, and she almost tripped a few times.

The two guys were chasing them, and since she was carrying Christopher, she couldn't go any faster and was about to get caught.

Pearl saw car lights in the distance and gritted her teeth, running towards the road.

Climbing the slope needed more speed and strength. Pearl had Christopher hold on tight while she used both hands and feet to climb.

"Don't let her get up there," one of the guys shouted, and a rock hit Pearl's forehead.

Pearl cried out in pain, put Christopher down, and pulled out a self-defense stick from her backpack.

"Bring it on," Pearl said, a bit pissed. She'd been worried they might have weapons, but hearing the guy shout not to let her climb up, she realized there were only two of them and didn't hesitate.

As they got closer, Pearl smirked and took them down quickly.

Seeing them on the ground, she ignored them and carried Christopher up to the road.

"Mom, I called the cops," Christopher said, wiping the blood from her forehead, looking guilty. "It's my fault. If I hadn't insisted on going home, we wouldn't have run into these bad guys."

Pearl hugged him tight. "Christopher, it's not on you. Sometimes bad stuff just happens. Think about it, it's late, and we're in the middle of nowhere. Creeps would totally pick this spot."

She called Oscar. No way was she waiting for a random car; who knew when those two jerks would wake up? If they did before she left, it'd be round two.

She wasn't scared of a fight—most folks couldn't take her—but she didn't want them calling for backup.

Oscar picked up while driving.

Pearl didn't waste a second, urging, "We ran into some bad guys. Get here now."

"I'm on it. Stay safe," Oscar said, not hanging up as he sped towards them.

Rain started pouring, and Pearl felt herself getting heavier. She knew it was a fever from her wound, but she didn't have her backpack with the meds.

They'd been walking for almost half an hour without seeing a single car. Luckily, the bad guys hadn't followed.

Maybe they were still out cold, or maybe they thought Pearl had already bailed.

Just as Pearl was about to drop, a car pulled over.

"Pearl, Christopher," Cadence gasped. "What happened to you guys?"

Pearl tried to answer, but her body gave out, and she fainted.

"Pearl!" Cadence caught her and turned to Christopher, "Christopher, what happened?"

"We ran into bad guys, and Mom got hurt," Christopher said, hugging Pearl, scared out of his mind.

Cadence tried to calm him. "Get in the car first. She needs a hospital. Christopher, don't cry. Help me get your mom in."

Christopher wiped his tears and helped Cadence get Pearl into the car.

They turned around and headed back to the city. Cadence pulled the curtains so Christopher couldn't see outside.

She handed him a bottle of water. "Christopher, don't be scared. We'll be at the hospital soon. Have some water."

Christopher, being a kid, was super thirsty after all the stress and chugged the water.

After finishing, he dozed off, leaving Cadence smirking. With a sly grin, she left Pearl by the roadside and sped off.

When Oscar arrived, he saw Pearl lying there and freaked out. He scooped her up and put her in the car, not seeing Christopher. He immediately sent people to search for him.

At dawn, Pearl woke up in the hospital but didn't see Christopher. She jumped out of bed to look for him.

As she opened the door, she bumped into the doctor doing rounds. She grabbed him. "Where's my kid? Who brought me here? Was my kid with me?"

"Mrs. Brown, Mr. Brown brought you in. We didn't see Christopher. Please get back to bed, and I'll have the nurse notify Mr. Brown," the doctor said, having the nurse help her back to bed and notifying Oscar.

Oscar rushed in, smiling and pinching her cheek when he saw her. "Thank God you're okay. You have no idea how scared I was when I saw that car. You're getting reckless."

"Where's Christopher? Is he at home?" Pearl's gut told her something was wrong. If he was fine, he'd be here with Oscar.

Oscar hugged her, gently patting her back. "It's okay now. You're still running a fever. I've got people handling Christopher's situation. Stay in the hospital for a few days to recover. Once you're better, we can join Christopher's show together."

Pearl inquired, "Did Christopher go to record the show?"

She remembered the director's instructions and thought Christopher hadn't come to see her because he was busy with the show.
