Chapter 547 I Wouldn't Blame You
This was Pearl's one and only wish now.
She and Oscar just wanted their family's blessings.
Charles gave a nod. "Don't worry, since we've come this far, I won't mess with you and Oscar anymore."
He wanted Oscar to step up and be the next President of Serenea, but Oscar couldn't care less about that.
Oscar just wanted a chill life. Charles couldn't just sit back and watch Oscar struggle.
"Thanks."
Pearl's upfront gratitude made Charles feel even worse.
Pearl and Oscar were hitched, and they'd been together for ages.
To them, they were meant to be, but Pearl still went out of her way to thank him.
Right then, Charles felt a pang of regret.
Oscar and Pearl hung around Serenea for a bit, and Oscar helped out with some local stuff.
Out of nowhere, Oscar got jumped by his older bros, Bradley Stewart and Albert Stewart.
But Oscar saw it coming. With Louis setting things up ahead of time and Oscar's own crew on point, Bradley and Albert's hit was a total bust.
After getting nabbed, Bradley and Albert wouldn't own up. When they saw Oscar, they even tried to take him down with them.
Oscar laid it out for them. "When Dad saved me, I was messed up and clueless about what was going on. He wanted me to take over, but I never gave a damn about being president. I came here just to help him out. If you don't buy it, that's on you. Once I'm out, I'll let you go."
The hit failed, and Oscar wasn't about to hurt his bros.
But when Charles found out, he came down hard on them. He even went public with, "The next President of Serenea isn't up to me but to the people of Serenea. Whoever gets the most votes will be the next president."
Charles used to want to hand the presidency to his son, but now it was clear Oscar didn't want it.
Bradley and Albert would do anything to get what they wanted, but Serenea needed a president who was all in for the country and its people.
Bradley was floored. "Do you hear yourself? The presidency has always been passed down. And now you want an election? Just 'cause Oscar doesn't want it, you're pulling this?"
Albert jumped in, "I can't believe you're playing favorites."
"I'm not playing favorites. I wanted Oscar to take over 'cause he's better than both of you in every way. Your actions just proved me right. You've really let me down!"
If Oscar hadn't been ready, would he have been toast today?
And Bradley and Albert still had the nerve to blame him?
"You think you were right? But you never trusted us. If you had given us more attention and believed in us, things wouldn't have gone down like this!"
"You're always so stubborn. Oscar doesn't even want to be president, and just 'cause we didn't live up to your standards, you thought of grooming someone else as your puppet, huh?"
Facing Bradley and Albert's accusations, Charles's face darkened. He kicked them both to the ground.
"If I didn't care about you, with what you've done, you'd have been dead long ago. How do you still not get it?"
The more Charles talked, the angrier he got.
But no one dared to step in.
Pearl gave Oscar a look, and he took her hand and they bounced.
Pearl looked at Oscar. "The family drama's over, and you've handled so much. When can we head back?"
Oscar patted Pearl's head. "No matter what, I planned to leave in two days. That cool with you?"
If Pearl said it wasn't, he'd change the plan and leave sooner.
"That works." Pearl nodded.
Taking advantage of Oscar being around, Charles publicly announced Bradley and Albert's assassination attempt on Oscar and decided to elect the president through a vote.
A bunch of people jumped into the election, and in the end, Charles got re-elected, but he added a four-year term, just like in Tranquiloria.
Bradley and Albert got sent off for reformation and started fresh as regular folks.
Seeing Serenea calm down, Oscar and Pearl hopped on a plane back.
As for Louis and Jimena, they headed back to Eldorians together.
Everything was chill in Eldorians. As soon as they landed, members of the Rios family came to see Louis.
Louis thought they had some business, but they were there for Jimena.
They laid it out. "Mr. Mitchell, Jimena's parents died early, and she's been with you for ages. In terms of status and looks, she's a perfect match for you. The Rios family is ready to follow Eldorians to the end. Now, Jimena is the only descendant of the Rios family. Mr. Mitchell, we all hope you'll marry Jimena and start raising the next generation ASAP."
Louis said calmly, "I know what to do. I don't like others planning my life for me."
They delivered their message, and the rest was up to Louis.
Seeing Louis's annoyed look, Jimena quickly explained, "I had no idea they were gonna do this today. I swear, I really..."
Louis reached out and cut her off, "You don't need to say anything. You've always been with me. Even if you did set this up, I wouldn't hold it against you."
