Chapter 918 Going to Another City
Lyra slowly stood up and started packing her things, carefully folding her few clothes and personal items and placing them neatly into her suitcase.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Lyra opened the door to find Jeffery standing there.
"Ready?" Jeffery asked softly.
Lyra nodded, "Almost, Jeffery. Thanks for your help."
Jeffery walked into the room, saw the suitcase, and picked it up without a word. "No problem. Let's go."
Lyra followed Jeffery out of the hotel room.
In the parking lot, Jeffery placed the suitcase in the trunk and then opened the passenger door for Lyra.
Lyra got into the car and fastened her seatbelt. Jeffery got in and started the car.
The atmosphere in the car was a bit quiet. Lyra broke the silence, "Mr. Gary, I really appreciate everything you've done for me."
"No need to keep thanking me. I've already arranged everything over there. City A is a nice place, and the work environment at the hospital is great. Just do your best."
"Okay..."
Finally, they arrived in City A.
Jeffery drove directly to the place he had arranged for Lyra to stay.
It was a pleasant community with complete facilities and convenient transportation.
Jeffery helped Lyra move her luggage into her new home, which was cozy and well-furnished.
"Mr. Gary, this is so thoughtful," Lyra said, feeling touched.
Jeffery looked around.
"Take a rest and get settled. Tomorrow, I'll go with you to the hospital to get you acquainted with the work process and environment."
Lyra was slightly taken aback, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
"Mr. Gary, why are you coming with me? You're so busy with the hospital affairs in Willow Creek. Won't this take up too much of your time?"
Jeffery smiled gently and patiently explained.
"Actually, I have a surgery scheduled here as well. The hospital in City A invited me to perform a complex surgery, and it coincides with your reporting time."
"So I can accompany you and help you transition smoothly into your new work environment."
Lyra was filled with gratitude. "Mr. Gary, you always think of so much for me without even realizing it. I really don't know how to repay you."
Jeffery waved his hand. "But I have to return to Willow Creek tonight. There are some important matters I need to handle personally."
Lyra's eyes showed a hint of reluctance.
"Mr. Gary, you helped me find a place and arranged my job. I haven't properly thanked you yet. If you don't mind, stay for dinner. I'd like to cook for you."
Jeffery was slightly taken aback, looking at Lyra's sincere eyes, feeling a warmth in his heart. "How could I impose? You just got here; you should rest."
Lyra quickly said, "Mr. Gary, please give me this chance."
"If it weren't for you, I don't know what I would have done. It's just a meal, a small token of my appreciation."
Seeing her insistence, Jeffery nodded, "Alright, then. Thank you."
Lyra happily began preparing dinner. She quickly made a simple menu, planning to make a few of her best dishes.
Then she hurried out to the nearby supermarket.
The supermarket was bustling, with various stalls displaying a wide array of goods.
Lyra weaved through the crowd and stalls, carefully selecting a fresh, plump sea bass.
Next, she picked out some fresh greens, a few plump potatoes, and some fresh mushrooms, not forgetting to buy some seasonings.
Back home, Lyra quickly put on an apron and washed and arranged the ingredients.
Just as she was about to handle the sea bass, Jeffery walked into the kitchen.
"Need any help?" Jeffery asked.
Lyra looked at him in surprise, "Mr. Gary, can you cook?"
Jeffery smiled, "I know a bit. I can't let you do all the work alone."
Lyra felt a warm feeling in her heart. "That's great, Mr. Gary. You can help me chop the vegetables."
So, Jeffery washed his hands, picked up a knife, and skillfully began preparing the ingredients.
Lyra couldn't help but praise, "Mr. Gary, your knife skills are impressive!"
Jeffery smiled modestly. "I used to cook a lot when I was studying and working abroad. It's something I picked up."
They worked together.
Lyra handled the sea bass, making a few cuts on the fish and sprinkling it with seasoning.
Jeffery washed and chopped the greens and sliced the mushrooms.
While the fish was marinating, Lyra prepared the other ingredients.
Everything was ready.
Lyra lit the stove, took out a frying pan, and poured in some olive oil.
When the oil started to ripple, she gently placed the marinated sea bass fillets in the pan. The fish sizzled softly as it hit the hot oil.
Lyra held the spatula steadily, carefully frying the fillets until both sides were golden and crispy.
Then she drizzled a bit of white wine and lemon juice, added fresh rosemary and thyme, and covered the pan, letting the fish absorb the fragrant herbs over low heat.
Meanwhile, Jeffery heated butter in another pan, sautéing chopped onions and garlic until fragrant, then adding fresh mushroom slices and cooking them until tender.
He then quickly sautéed fresh spinach leaves, seasoning with salt and black pepper, creating a vibrant, flavorful garlic spinach dish.
Next, Jeffery soaked thin potato strips in water to remove excess starch, drained them, and placed them in a preheated oven, sprinkling them with olive oil and rosemary, baking them until golden and crispy.
Soon, a variety of delicious dishes were laid out on the table.
Lyra looked at the spread and said happily, "Mr. Gary, I didn't expect us to work so well together."
She hadn't expected that Jeffery, who seemed like he wouldn't know how to cook, actually did—and quite well at that.
Jeffery looked at her with a gentle expression, "Yeah, this meal is our joint effort."
They sat at the table, eating and chatting.
After dinner, Lyra insisted on cleaning up.
Jeffery wanted to help, but she firmly refused.
"Mr. Gary, you've done enough today. Leave this to me. You rest for a bit; I'll be quick."
Jeffery had no choice but to sit on the sofa and rest, watching Lyra's busy figure in the kitchen.
For some reason, this made him feel very relaxed.
For so many years, he had been rushing around the hospital, meeting all kinds of people, but he had never felt this way before.
