Chapter 423 She's Married, Take the Flowers Back
Pearl said, "Hi, I'm Pearl."
Oscar cut in, "Alright, let's go."
Luciana quickly calmed Javier down.
Valentina followed the group, always watching Pearl and Oscar.
She was still uneasy. Noticing Oscar's sweaty forehead, she pulled out a handkerchief she had embroidered. "Mr. Brown, you're sweating. Let me wipe it for you."
She reached out.
Before she could touch him, Oscar turned away and said coldly, "No need."
Valentina apologized, "I'm sorry, Mr. Brown. I just wanted to help."
Oscar ignored her.
Valentina felt awkward, unsure how to get closer to him.
Pearl noticed their interaction.
It seemed Valentina and Oscar had spent a lot of time together.
While Pearl was thinking, Oscar suddenly said, "You help me wipe it."
He did it on purpose.
Valentina's face darkened, and she clenched her hands.
"What?" Pearl was stunned, unsure if he was talking to her.
She looked up and saw he was.
They were in the mountains, carrying heavy gear and weapons. The long walk was part of their regular training.
Oscar was drenched in sweat.
Paloma heard Oscar and looked at Pearl, excited.
She thought, 'Pearl, hurry up and wipe it!'
But Pearl handed him some tissues. "I only have these. If it's not enough, ask someone else."
Paloma was disappointed.
Pearl walked ahead, confused by his behavior.
He wanted the divorce, and now he was trying to get close to her. It frustrated and confused her.
She didn't know what he wanted.
Oscar, after being rejected, stayed calm. He took the tissues and wiped his sweat.
"Mr. Brown, let me help!" Elijah offered eagerly.
Oscar gave him a cold look and kicked his leg. "Get lost."
Elijah didn't understand why he was always rejected.
'Wasn't Mr. Brown looking for help?'
Pearl and Oscar rarely spoke. Walking side by side was already progress.
Paloma kept chatting with Pearl.
"Why didn't you help Mr. Brown? It was a good chance," Paloma said, almost frantic.
Pearl replied, "Why should I? That's too intimate."
Paloma said, "Valentina is watching. You should make her back off!"
"Why?" Pearl asked.
Paloma sensed Valentina's odd behavior. "I think Valentina is testing you."
Pearl found it amusing and didn't take it seriously.
Paloma said, "She sees you as a rival, just as I didn't like you at first."
Pearl didn't take Valentina seriously. "If a man truly likes you, he will only like you. Fighting over a man is pointless."
"You're right," Paloma said, listening intently.
Pearl looked at Paloma. "If a man doesn't like you, find someone else. There are plenty of men in the world!"
Paloma was puzzled but nodded seriously.
When they returned to the village, the women washed freshly picked truffles.
Pearl helped them. They had to be cleaned before they could be packed and sold.
The people here were hardworking.
Oscar's clothes were soaked with sweat. He stood nearby, drinking water. He drank too quickly, and the water dripped down his neck into his clothes.
This caught Valentina's attention.
She hadn't interacted much with Oscar. Seeing his handsome face and knowing he led the troops, she felt he could protect her.
She didn't want to endure the hardships of war anymore.
Back then, she was a famous beauty in her hometown, which helped her marry someone from Tranquiloria because of her looks and talents.
But her gaze shifted to Pearl.
She couldn't just sit and wait.
"Pearl, come change your clothes," Luciana called out.
Paloma said, "You can wear my clothes. We're about the same size."
"Alright."
Pearl had just finished cleaning the truffles in the basket.
The Eldorians had their own distinctive attire.
The fabric was handmade and sewn into clothes with various paintings, representing their customs and culture.
Pearl thought their clothes were beautiful.
After changing, Paloma exclaimed, "Pearl, you look so beautiful and even prettier in our clothes!"
"Really?" Pearl felt a bit embarrassed by the compliment.
"Really, you should let Mr. Brown see!" Paloma quickly pushed Pearl outside.
Pearl didn't understand. "Why do I need to show him?"
Paloma said, "Mr. Brown is over there. Of course, you need to let him see your beauty!"
Paloma thought Oscar treated Pearl very well, and they were originally very harmonious.
Suddenly, Valentina started fawning over Oscar, which made Paloma unhappy.
Pearl was forcibly pushed outside by her.
Oscar was standing by the roadside with his subordinates when Nicholas noticed Pearl and signaled to Oscar. "Mr. Brown!"
Oscar followed their gaze and saw Pearl standing at the door.
Paloma had given Pearl her best clothes to wear.
Oscar looked at her intently, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Paloma directly asked, "Mr. Brown, doesn't Pearl look beautiful in our Eldorian clothes?"
Pearl wanted to stop her, "You talk too much."
Paloma just laughed.
Oscar answered seriously, "You look beautiful!"
Paloma shouted, "You all heard it, Mr. Brown said Pearl looks beautiful!"
She said this intentionally for Valentina to hear.
Valentina was nearby, her ankle already treated. She wanted to help Oscar and was distributing water to everyone.
Seeing that Oscar had finished his water, she quickly scooped another ladle.
In the process, she overheard their conversation, which made her very uncomfortable.
But she forced a smile and came to Oscar's side. "Mr. Brown, do you need more water?"
Oscar's gaze shifted from Pearl. "No, give it to the others."
"Valentina, give me some!"
"Valentina, I need some too!"
"Alright!" Valentina was happy to help.
However, Oscar walked away again.
"Pearl looks so pretty!" Several children circled around Pearl, happily shouting.
Pearl smiled and touched their faces. "Thank you."
Suddenly, a young man, blushing, handed Pearl a bouquet of flowers.
Pearl accepted it and said, "Thank you."
The young man was stunned that she took them, and then his face lit up with joy.
Until Paloma said, "You can't accept it! According to our Eldorian customs, accepting flowers from an unmarried man means accepting his proposal."
Pearl was frightened and didn't know what to do with the flowers in her hand.
Before she could react, Oscar snatched the bouquet and threw it back at the young man.
"She's married. Take the flowers back!" Oscar said coldly.
Pearl looked up at him again, seeing him glaring at the young man with hostility.
They were clearly divorced, so why did Oscar say she was married?
'What did he mean by that? Does Oscar not want me to have a new lover even after our divorce?'
Pearl softly said to the young man, "I'm not married. Don't listen to him. But we haven't interacted much, so I can't accept these flowers."
Upon hearing this, Oscar frowned and looked at her again.
