Chapter 745 The Real and Fake Pearl
The bodyguard behind Lila didn't waste any time. He yanked the cage door open and dragged her out, not caring how rough he was.
Lila tried to fight back, but the guy slapped her so hard she hit the ground. Her ears were ringing, and she couldn't even get a word out.
"Shut up," the masked man said, rubbing his temples. "Hawk, how's that investigation going?" he asked.
"Louis is already at Willow Creek. Pearl and Oscar are on their way," Hawk replied.
The masked man nodded, looking pleased. "Did you get that woman ready like I asked?" he added.
When Hawk confirmed, a sly smile spread across his face.
Things were about to get interesting.
Meanwhile, Pearl and Oscar had just landed after a long flight.
As they were about to grab their luggage, a commotion broke out ahead, and a crowd surged towards them.
Seeing this, Oscar quickly grabbed Pearl's hand, but the crowd was too dense, and they got separated.
Oscar, holding his suitcase, looked around frantically, trying to spot Pearl.
But all he saw were unfamiliar faces; the one he was looking for was nowhere in sight.
Pearl was in the same boat.
As she desperately searched for Oscar, a man in black approached from behind. In one swift motion, the man pulled a syringe from his sleeve and injected her.
The sedative worked fast, and within seconds, Pearl felt dizzy and disoriented.
She collapsed, and the man in black carried her away.
After they left the airport, the crowd dispersed, but Oscar still couldn't find Pearl.
He was about to pull out his phone to call her when he heard a familiar voice. "Oscar, I'm here."
He turned around to see a woman standing behind him.
With just one look, Oscar's heart sank.
The woman looked exactly like Pearl. Anyone else would have been fooled.
But not Oscar.
He knew her too well to be tricked.
The sudden appearance of this woman and Pearl's disappearance could only mean one thing: the Shadow Organization was involved.
Revealing the truth now would only tip off the enemy. It was better to play along and see if Oscar could get any information from this woman.
Thinking of this, Oscar walked over calmly. "Where'd you go just now?" he asked.
"I got pushed over there. Oscar, let's find a hotel to stay at," the woman said, holding his hand and smiling.
She had clearly been trained; even her smile was just like Pearl's.
Oscar stepped back, avoiding her touch. "I already booked a hotel. Let's go there," he said.
"Oscar, call the kids when we get to the hotel. I miss them," the woman said, trying to solidify her identity as Pearl by mentioning the kids.
In her mind, a mother would always be thinking about her kids, no matter where she was.
Oscar played along.
Once they got to the hotel, he called Christopher on a video call. Christopher, usually so lively, stared at the woman on the screen, sensing something was off.Why was Pearl acting so off today?
The woman was fussing over him way too much, almost like she was trying too hard.
After a few quick remarks, Oscar hung up the phone. This hotel was under Jimena's name; it was his turf.
He'd already had the bodyguards check the place out, and there were no suspicious folks around. Now it was time to get some answers.
When Pearl woke up again, she saw a masked man standing in front of her.
She spoke coldly, "Since you went through all this trouble to bring me here, why hide behind a mask? Is your real face that embarrassing?"
Hearing this, the masked man laughed heartily.
He showed her a photo of the fake Pearl. "Does this woman look like you? Now she's alone with your husband. What do you think will happen?"
Just thinking about it made him excited.
Pearl looked around, assessing the man's strength. Her hands, tied behind her back, worked to free themselves from the ropes.
But she didn't show any of this.
Her calmness surprised the masked man.
"Did you not understand what I said? I have this woman pretending to be you, staying with Oscar. He won't recognize her, and you'll stay here with me," he said.
"Is that all? You think you can fool him?" Pearl's face showed clear disdain. "You're dreaming!" she shouted.
"How about a wager? If he doesn't recognize her, you'll be my servant. If he does, I'll remove my mask and reveal my face," the masked man challenged, his competitive drive burning bright.
The fake Pearl was his masterpiece, crafted over three months to be identical to the real Pearl.
Even her voice was indistinguishable.
How could Oscar not be fooled by such a perfect replica?
Anyway, with both of them standing in front of the masked man, he couldn't tell them apart.
Hearing his words, Pearl readily agreed, "I’m sure I’ll win this bet. What’s the duration?"
"Not long. Don't worry, I'll reunite you two soon," the masked man said with a malicious smile.
But behind the mask, no one could see his smile.
He had planned all this not just for a bet. The fake Pearl was poisoned. If Oscar had any intimate contact with her, he would die.
The masked man thought, 'With Oscar gone and Pearl in my grasp, I could seize the Brown family's wealth and use her life to threaten Louis, further expanding the Shadow Organization. The possibilities were endless.'
It was a win-win situation for him.
The masked man was unperturbed, confident in his victory. At that time, Pearl remained silent, waiting patiently.
Before leaving the country, Louis had given her a small tracking device, no bigger than a fingernail.
She had hidden it in her clothing, and the masked man hadn't noticed. It wouldn't be long before Louis's people arrived.
