Chapter 247 What Did She Ever Do to Offend You?

She thought, "No big deal. There's still time. One day, I'll be the mistress here."

And now, she was closer to that goal.

Haley glanced at Harold, who had come with her.

Since he was close to Oscar, she needed to stay on his good side. She asked, "Mr. Lewis, does Oscar stay here often?"

Harold replied, typing on his phone: [He's been here more lately, but Mr. Brown hasn't shown up for days.]

"Doesn't he go back to Brown Manor?"

Haley hadn't reached out to Hathaway in a while.

Work had kept her too busy to contact her.

Hathaway had messaged her several times, but she was too swamped to reply.

[Mr. Brown does go back,] Harold wrote. [Mrs. Brown doesn't like Brown Manor, so Mr. Brown avoids it too.]

Haley clenched her fists but kept her cool. "Will he be coming over soon?"

[Not sure,] Harold replied. [Mr. Brown's been busy. We'll see if he visits Mrs. Brown.]

His words were a reminder for Haley to know her place.

Haley smiled. "I know she works at the TV station. She left Oscar, so they must be getting a divorce."

[They haven't divorced yet.]

"Aren't they planning to?" Haley pressed.

Harold replied: [That's between them. As a subordinate, I wouldn't know.]

He said what he needed to say and nothing more.

Haley could tell Harold was loyal to Pearl.

After working together for so long, he naturally sided with Pearl.

Once she married Oscar, he'd know where his loyalty should lie.

If he crossed her then, she could have Oscar fire him.

Now wasn't the time to get mad at him.

Haley turned, acting like the lady of the house. "You can go now. I don't need you here."

Harold didn't want to stay longer. He put down her luggage and left.

Haley ordered the servant, "Take my things upstairs."

The servant carried her things up as instructed.

Haley followed, checking out the rooms. When she saw the servant still ahead, she said, "Wait, I want this room."

The servant, knowing the rules, shook her head. [The master bedroom is for Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Ms. Garcia, you should stay in the guest room.]

Haley learnt tha they had spent quite some time here.

She didn't push for the master bedroom.

Pearl had left Brown Manor, meaning she was out of Hathaway's control.

That made things easier for her, and Oscar had gone to great lengths for her.

Her things were moved to the guest room, but Haley found it too small and uncomfortable. The master bedroom suited her better.

Some day, it would be hers.

She messaged Hathaway.

Hathaway was doing a spa treatment when she saw Haley's message. She immediately sat up, not caring about her face mask.

She quickly called Haley.

Haley knew Hathaway would call. Given Hathaway's enthusiasm, she wouldn't ignore her, but Haley hung up.

Hathaway wondered why Haley wasn't answering.

Haley messaged: [I'm not available to take your call right now.]

Hathaway quickly replied: [Busy lately? Haley, you're a big star now. So happy for you.]

[Thanks, Hathaway. I'm at Serenity Haven Estates. Free these days, let's meet up.]

[Now! Right now!]

Haley smiled, knowing Hathaway would jump at the chance.

She wandered around, curious about the master bedroom, and walked in.

It was clear no one had stayed there for a while.

She opened the wardrobe, finding many women's nightgowns, some with tags still on.

She took one out, held it against herself, and twirled in front of the mirror.

If she wore this for Oscar, he'd definitely be impressed.

She didn't linger; there'd be other opportunities.

She glanced at the large bed, imagining herself with Oscar on it.

Twenty minutes later, Hathaway arrived at Serenity Haven Estates.

She called out at the entrance, "Haley!"

But Haley didn't come out.

Seeing Haley wasn't in the living room, Hathaway asked, "Where's Haley? Didn't she say she was here?"

"Ms. Garcia is upstairs," the servant said, then added, "Ms. Garcia can't hear you. You'll have to go up."

"What?" Hathaway was shocked and hurried upstairs.

She opened the guest room door and called, "Haley."

Haley had her back to Hathaway.

Seeing Haley truly couldn't hear her, even up close, Hathaway quickly tapped her shoulder. "Haley."

Haley turned around. "Hathaway."

Hathaway noticed her haggard face and weight loss. "What happened? Why can't you hear? Who did this to you?"

Hathaway's eyes reddened.

Haley tried to read her lips. "Hathaway, I'm fine. I finally have some time off to meet you."

Hathaway, realizing she couldn't hear, wrote: [Stop pretending. I know you can't hear. I've heard from others. My poor Haley!]

Reading Hathaway's words, Haley burst into tears. "Hathaway."

She hugged her tightly.

Hathaway also started crying, gently patting her back.

[Who did this?] Hathaway hadn't forgotten.

Haley bit her lip. "I had a relapse."

[I don't believe it. Was it Pearl or someone jealous of your success?]

Haley's tears fell even more. "Please don't ask. We're all family, I..."

[Is what they're saying online true?]

Hathaway, having followed the news, wrote: [Did Magdalen hurt you?]

Hathaway was furious.

"Hathaway, no."

Hathaway was too angry to listen. [I'm going to confront her and make her pay. She'll regret it!]

"Hathaway, don't do anything rash." Haley quickly tried to stop her.

Hathaway wouldn't listen, still fuming.

She knew Magdalen was elusive and didn't know where she was, so she called her.

Magdalen was enjoying herself when her phone rang.

Seeing the ID, she answered, hearing a torrent of abuse. "Magdalen, did you make Haley deaf? It's one thing to oppose me, but why take it out on Haley? She never did anything to offend you!"
