Chapter 427 I Made a Deal with Him
Pearl's eyes widened in shock.
Everything felt like a dream, leaving her momentarily frozen.
Oscar gently parted her lips with his.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tight like he was scared she'd vanish again, showing how much he missed her.
Pearl was always on his mind.
In danger, only she could spark his will to live.
Pearl felt his longing too. She didn't resist, wrapping her arms around his broad back, responding with all her strength.
She closed her eyes, almost in tears.
A single tear slid down her cheek.
Oscar wiped it away with his fingertip, kissing her passionately.
No words were needed; his actions showed his love for Pearl.
Pearl couldn't remember how she ended up in his tent. When she came to, Oscar was holding her, placing her on the bed.
She held his head with both hands, looking into his bloodshot eyes, breathing heavily.
Valentina was gone, leaving just the two of them.
Pearl had lost her rationality too. After all they'd been through in a war-torn country, she felt they should cherish every moment together.
Who knew how long this would last?
As long as she experienced it, she would have no regrets.
Oscar's breathing was heavy, his body burning hot. The veins on his hand holding her waist bulged. In a hoarse voice, he whispered in her ear, "There could be a war here any moment. Please don't leave my sight. If you're by my side, I can protect you."
He panicked at her words, scared of being separated from her.
Since she left Tranquiloria, he hadn't slept well, always fearing for her safety.
Outside of Tranquiloria, danger was everywhere.
He worried about her constantly.
Oscar's soft tone struck Pearl's heart, which was supposed to be hard.
She had thought she must stay calm, but she couldn't hold it in.
She wrapped her arms around Oscar's neck, gazing into his eyes, and asked, "If you're afraid of losing me, why did you separate from me? Why did you give me all your possessions?"
She was trying to guess Oscar's thoughts.
Before, she thought she understood him best, even able to guess his thoughts from a single look.
But now, she couldn't figure it out.
He returned to the army, and even though there might be sacrifices, it hadn't come to this.
Oscar couldn't look at her. He held her tightly, lifting her up, resting his chin on her shoulder, and whispered, "Don't ask."
Pearl's heart was filled with worry, and she couldn't feel happy at all.
Since he left, she hadn't relaxed for a moment. She asked, "Did you take my words to heart? Sometimes I say things out of anger."
In moments of near despair, the words she said in anger weren't true.
Her true wish was for him to be safe.
She didn't want to lose Oscar again.
Oscar fell silent. He didn't have the courage to let her know he was poisoned.
Saving Adrian was also something he wanted to do.
"It's okay. It's what I should do," Oscar said softly. "The people you care about will come back."
Whether it was Adrian or Jeffery, he hoped they could be there for Pearl in the future.
Pearl grabbed his sleeve. "What about you?"
Oscar's lips curved. "I'm fine. Compared to them, I've already been too fortunate."
These words made Pearl's nose tingle, and warm tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
She looked up, not wanting to cry anymore.
She was most afraid of such sentimental words making her lose control of her emotions.
"Then tell me, how was my poison cured? How did you get the antidote?"
Pearl couldn't understand. Adrian and Jeffery had searched tirelessly for the antidote but couldn't find it, yet it appeared unexpectedly and saved her life, which was too strange.
Oscar was silent for a moment, then said, "I begged for the antidote."
Pearl asked, "Who did you beg?"
"My father."
Pearl was stunned again. "Alfonso?"
"Not Alfonso. My biological father, Charles Stewart," Oscar said coldly.
This surprised Pearl. "You found him?"
"He came to me."
Pearl didn't expect this, but from Oscar's tone, she could tell he didn't want Charles to find him.
After all, they had never met, so there were no feelings.
And he acknowledged his father Charles to get the antidote for her, which made Pearl feel bad. She had left Oscar with no choice and bound him.
"It's my fault for dragging you into this," she said.
Oscar said, "Don't say that. You being alive is the most important thing to me."
Pearl's mood grew somber. "Is this the deal you made?"
Oscar nodded. "I made a deal with him. In three months, I will no longer belong to myself. Everything I have, I want to give to you. Help me hold on to it. This was originally given to me by David, and I want you to keep it. This way, your future will be secure."
To him, it was a win-win solution.
Everything from the Brown family could only belong to Pearl, not anyone else.
Pearl didn't know whether to be happy or sad.
So, this was the truth.
This deal also included divorcing her, and Oscar still agreed.
She wondered why they had come to this.
Pearl smiled bitterly.
She could actually understand Oscar.
Given the choice between her living or dying, for him, her living was undoubtedly the better option.
Pearl buried her face in his chest, her eyes moist. "So you don't have much time left."
"Yes," Oscar responded faintly. He even didn't know how long he could stay conscious.
He had chosen his fate, and it was Pearl who had to suffer.
Pearl suddenly felt relieved. It confirmed that saying: having once is what truly matters.
She looked up and kissed Oscar's lips. "Then what are we waiting for?"
Oscar looked at her with burning eyes.
"Here we are free, even if only for a few days, at least we have had it," Pearl said with a bitter smile.
Oscar's eyes grew deeper. He had been restraining himself, afraid of hurting her.
Pearl couldn't care about that anymore. She had known him for so many years and had never been so wanton. She kissed his lips, his cheeks, moving down step by step, teasing him.
In the end, Oscar couldn't hold back. The veins on his arms bulged, his eyes were red, and he struggled to control her restless hands.
At this moment, he resembled a beast ready to pounce.
