Chapter 419 Miguel Left
Valentina asked, "So, when can I see him tomorrow?"
"I don't know," came the reply.
She felt a bit let down.
Yesterday, she had dinner with them and saw Oscar, but today she couldn't.
Maybe she came too late.
Valentina thought, 'If I come earlier tomorrow, could I see Oscar?'
Just then, Elijah walked by, still wondering if Oscar had found a lover.
He muttered, "Mr. Brown wouldn't do that, would he? But he prepared a hot bath for that woman. Mr. Brown isn't usually that nice to other women. He shouldn't be that kind of person."
Elijah reassured himself, knowing Oscar was deeply in love with Pearl and wouldn't have a lover.
But then he remembered Oscar and Pearl were already divorced.
Valentina saw Elijah coming over with his head down and quickly called out, "Elijah!"
Elijah looked up and saw it was the woman they had rescued.
They had rescued many refugees, but Valentina's husband, Isaac Wallace from Tranquiloria, had died.
Valentina had a five-year-old son, Javier Wallace, and wanted to go to the border to find her relatives.
They shouldn't have taken Valentina and Javier with them, but they were bullied among the refugees and often didn't have enough to eat.
Plus, Isaac had asked the soldiers to take them back to Tranquiloria before he died, where his parents would take care of them.
So they took her along and sent her to the border.
Along the way, she helped a lot, mending clothes and doing chores, so they thought she was quite good.
"Valentina, it's you," Elijah said warmly. "Why are you here so late? Doesn't Javier need you?"
"He fell asleep, so I came to find Mr. Brown," Valentina smiled. "I heard you talking. What's bothering you?"
She had overheard Elijah's words.
'Could it be that Oscar has feelings for another woman?'
She had followed along the way, and Oscar rarely spoke to women.
Although Oscar seemed cold, he had a righteous heart.
He not only saved her but also her child.
Along the way, Oscar had protected and helped her.
Valentina had a good impression of Oscar and cared about him.
When it came to Oscar's private matters, Elijah kept it confidential. "It's nothing. Do you need something?"
Seeing he didn't say more, Valentina didn't press and glanced at Oscar's tent. "I want to see if Mr. Brown is asleep and if he's comfortable here. I know you folks from Tranquiloria like coffee. This area has great coffee beans, which must suit your taste."
Hearing that, Elijah thought it was a good idea. "Sure, if Mr. Brown isn't used to it, some coffee would be nice."
"Alright, I'll bring some tomorrow."
Valentina found something new to do for Oscar, which made her happy.
Elijah probably didn't get it.
He was focused on making Oscar's life a bit better.
Oscar had suffered a lot in the army, and since rejoining, he was somewhat unaccustomed.
He had allergies often and struggled to adjust to the environment.
"I'll get a few people to go with you and make sure you're safe," Elijah said.
Valentina replied, "Okay. Thanks, Elijah."
Elijah said, "No problem. You're doing it for Mr. Brown."
Valentina left with a smile.
Elijah didn't stay long and left too.
But Valentina kept thinking about what Elijah said.
She was curious about who that woman was.
Valentina didn't leave right away and asked a soldier, "When are we leaving this village after helping out?"
"I'm not sure."
Valentina asked, "Is the woman close to Mr. Brown from Eldoria?"
The soldier thought for a moment. "No, I think she's from Tranquiloria."
Valentina felt a bit anxious hearing that.
No wonder everyone was talking about it.
Valentina smiled again. "Alright, thanks."
She went back.
By then, Javier had woken up.
"Mom, where did you go?" Javier, being Eldorian, had darker skin and spoke in Eldorian.
He hadn't seen Valentina for a while and felt uneasy.
When she came back, he quickly got up and hugged her.
Valentina gently rubbed his soft hair. "I just went to see Mr. Brown."
Javier asked, "Is it Oscar?"
"Yes." Valentina sat down and handed him a glass of milk. "Oscar was worried you wouldn't have milk, so he got a cow for you."
Javier, being greedy, drank the milk in big gulps.
"Mom, it's delicious." To Javier, milk was the best thing ever, and he was satisfied, licking his lips.
Valentina wiped his mouth with her hand and asked, "Do you like Oscar?"
"I like him. Oscar gives me milk." Javier seemed very excited.
Valentina laughed. "Yes, he is very good to us."
Yesterday, Pearl had a hot bath.
She couldn't remember the last time she had one.
Anyway, she slept very comfortably last night.
Pearl got up early.
Stepping out of the tent, Pearl breathed in the fresh air.
She had to admit, although this place was a bit backward, the air was very fresh.
"Ms. Harris!" Suddenly someone called her.
Pearl looked over and saw Vincent running over. "Miguel is missing!"
"What?" Pearl was a bit panicked. "How could he be missing? Did something happen to him?"
"No, he probably left," the soldier said. "He left you a letter."
Pearl took it and opened it.
Miguel wasn't very good at writing English, so his handwriting was crooked, and there were some Eldorian words.
The general meaning was: Pearl, I left. You were right about some things! My hatred is nothing compared to the country, so I don't plan to stay with you. I hope we can meet again someday! Thank you again for meeting you.
Pearl felt a twinge of sadness as she read the letter.
Maybe her empathy was too strong.
She found it hard to accept farewells, and Miguel even left her such a letter.
However, she also felt a sense of relief because Miguel had found his purpose.
To live, one must have faith, which gives the motivation to keep going.
No matter where he was, his life in this world would surely be extraordinary!
"Ms. Harris, should we go look for him?" the soldier asked her.
Pearl said, "No, let him go."
