Chapter 915 Counterattack

Alice blocked Lyra's path. "You think you can just buy me off with this cash? You really think I need it?"

Alice grabbed Lyra's arm tightly. "Listen, if you don't do what I say... Lyra, I can destroy you."

Lyra was scared, but she feared an endless abyss even more.

She looked at Alice with indifference. "Do whatever you want. You gave me the money first. At worst, we'll both go down together. My life doesn't matter, but you? You worked so hard to get into Jeffery's hospital. Are you willing to get fired?"

Alice fell silent. It had indeed been a struggle for her to join Jeffery's hospital. She had spent countless nights studying and memorizing medical knowledge.

She even had to endure the torment of some patients.

She really... sometimes felt like dying.

But whenever she thought about staying by Jeffery's side, she felt endless joy. She gritted her teeth and endured it.

However, she couldn't let Lyra intimidate her. "You think you can threaten me? No way."

Seeing Alice's hesitation, Lyra smiled. "Why would I threaten you? You know Jeffery well enough. I'm going to work with him now. If I don't show up on time and Jeffery gets upset, you'll be the first one he blames."

With that, Lyra turned and walked away without looking back.

Alice watched her leave, her face grim with anger.

Lyra, who was at the bottom of the social ladder, dared to threaten her? No, she wouldn't allow it!

Alice clenched her fists tightly.

She wouldn't leave this hospital, and she wouldn't give up on pursuing Jeffery. And she wouldn't let Lyra off the hook!

Meanwhile, Lyra was genuinely happy that Alice didn't follow her.

She quickly made her way to Jeffery's office.

Jeffery's assistant saw her and frowned, but Lyra greeted him with a smile. She understood his feelings. If she were in his shoes, working well and suddenly having someone new come in, she wouldn't be happy either.

Soon, Lyra stood before Jeffery.

"Mr. Gary."

"You seem to be in a good mood. Have you finally gotten rid of those people?" Jeffery noticed the hint of joy on Lyra's face.

Lyra shook her head. "Not entirely, but at least I don't have to be so submissive anymore. I think that's a win."

"Who did you see before coming here?"

"Alice," Lyra answered honestly.

Jeffery pursed his lips in silence. He remembered Alice because she was Quincy's cousin.

Alice had gotten in partly due to Quincy's influence, and he had turned a blind eye to it, mostly for Pearl's sake.

"Did you return her money? What did you say to her?" Jeffery asked while flipping through some medical records.

Lyra didn't hide anything. "I just told her the consequences of not accepting a peaceful resolution."

"I wish you could be that tough with the Hill family."

Lyra wasn't as tough with the Hill family. He knew it was partly because of the deceased Flora and the disabled Aaron.

Mentioning the Hill family made Lyra uncomfortable. Over the years, she had been like an ATM to them, with endless amounts of money going into their pockets, and they were never satisfied.

They even became more demanding, like a bottomless pit.

"It's not that I'm not tough, but sometimes I feel it's unnecessary. Some things just can't be explained."

"Pack your things and come with me out of town. I need to discuss a project to expand our hospital." Jeffery was determined to establish roots in Willow Creek.

Because Pearl was there, he wanted to protect her and train talent to safeguard Pearl's children in the future.

"But didn't we promise a patient to perform a surgery?"

"I'll arrange for someone else."

It would be best if Lyra did the surgery, but he had a schedule. Bringing Quincy in temporarily wasn't impossible.

"Alright."

Since Jeffery had made arrangements, she had no reason to argue.

She didn't have much to pack. Her office had her change of clothes for night shifts, making things more convenient.

Lyra grabbed her clothes and followed Jeffery out of the hospital.

Alice sent another message. [Lyra, if you don't want me to ruin you, you'd better listen to me. Otherwise... I won't let you off.]

Lyra initially wanted to ignore it, but fearing Alice might keep sending messages and affect her, she replied.

[If you want me to take this message to the police, go ahead.]

Jeffery noticed Lyra's heavy expression. "Is it the Hill family again?"

"No."

Hearing Lyra's denial, Jeffery understood the problem she was facing.

"Do you want me to deal with Alice once and for all? I don't want my assistant distracted from work." Jeffery's face showed a hint of coldness.

Lyra smiled. "No need. I've already handled it."

She believed Alice would back off after seeing her message.

Jeffery spoke calmly. "Good. Since you're coming with me, remember that work comes first. I don't want to see you dealing with personal matters repeatedly. Do you understand?"

Lyra nodded. "I understand."

This time was different from the last. Jeffery had arranged everything, including the hotel. Their rooms were right across from each other.

Jeffery instructed Lyra, "Rest well today. Tomorrow, I have meetings. Don't cause any trouble."

"Okay." Lyra nodded.

She had resolved everything, so there shouldn't be any trouble.

But she didn't expect the Hill family to be so persistent. It used to be just Aaron sending harassing messages. Now the entire Hill family took turns.

Heath called her multiple times and sent messages. Elowen did too.

Aaron even sent crazy messages, making perverse demands. [Lyra, if you give me a child, you'll be free from the Hill family. I won't bother you anymore. I'll let you go.]

Aaron not only used his phone but also somehow got many unknown numbers to send her messages and calls.

But the content was always the same.
