Chapter 409 Mr. Mitchell

Pearl fell silent, lost in thought.

The northern Eldorians had their village wiped out by RavenWing's men, while here they got help. The contrast was stark.

Pearl had a gut feeling something was off.

She glanced at Miguel, who followed her lead.

Pearl walked to the center of the house, approaching Camila and Natalia Morales. She didn't recognize the vegetables on the ground, but their roots were long.

"How do you handle this?" Miguel translated for Pearl.

Camila looked up at them, who seemed like a woman in her twenties and a teenage boy to her.

"We're prepping these for sale. Shake off the dirt, then bundle them in groups of twenty," Camila explained, and Miguel translated.

Camila then asked, "How did you end up here?"

This was the central region of the Eldorians. The country was in turmoil and not very safe, with Eldorians divided internally.

The northern Eldorians had split off due to nearby allied forces. Miguel's accent gave him away as one of them.

While Miguel was lost in thought, Pearl pulled him aside. "We're refugees."

The Eldorians here believed RavenWing was a good person. If they told the truth, Camila wouldn't believe them. Plus, Pearl hadn't figured out the situation yet, so it was best not to mention Miguel's village massacre and his being hunted by RavenWing's men.

"You are Eldorians and kind-hearted. We won't make things hard for you. Stay here for now and don't think about leaving," Camila said while sorting herbs.

Miguel asked, "Why?"

Camila explained, "There are different allied troops around. We survived because of RavenWing's protection. If you leave, you'll be hunted by the allied troops. This place isn't under government control."

Miguel relayed this to Pearl, who felt a chill down her spine. She couldn't believe such chaos still existed in the world and wondered how people here survived.

Just then, Pearl heard children excitedly shouting, "Hello, Mr. Mitchell!" in broken English.

"Camila, Mr. Mitchell is back. I want to see him too!" Natalia suddenly stood up, looking joyful.

Miguel translated for Pearl, who remembered Juan mentioning Louis's connection to RavenWing and was curious.

"Let's go take a look," she said.

"Okay," Miguel replied, and they followed the sound.

After a few steps, Pearl saw a group of children surrounding Louis, who was tall, at least six feet, with his sleeves rolled up, looking quite gentlemanly.

He was holding a big paper bag, and the kids swarmed him like he was Santa, pulling out goodies.

The girls got hair ties and clips, while the boys got knee pads, soccer balls, and textbooks.

The older girls received lipstick and skincare products.

They looked puzzled. "Mr. Mitchell, what is this?"

"Lipstick. It makes you look better. In other countries, they use it for makeup. This is foundation. If you don't know how to use it, I can find you a video," Mr. Mitchell explained, mixing Eldorian with English.

Pearl understood most of it.

"Thank you, Mr. Mitchell!" the kids exclaimed, treasuring their new stuff.

Everyone loves a good gift.

The kids were thrilled. "Mr. Mitchell, come to my house for dinner! We have eggs and meat."

"Mr. Mitchell, come to my house. We have potatoes!"

"Mr. Mitchell, we have sweet potatoes!"

This village was way better off than Miguel's. They had enough to eat.

Pearl noticed Miguel clenching his fists, veins bulging.

Miguel felt it was unfair. Why was life so hard for them, while this village, under allied troops, had food and education?

Who was this Louis who knew RavenWing?

Pearl pulled him aside. "Don't do anything rash. Teach me some basic Eldorian."

The kids and Mr. Mitchell spoke broken English mixed with Eldorian.

They couldn't rush things.

Miguel calmed down a bit. They were on someone else's turf and outmatched.

But Louis noticed Pearl and Miguel.

Everyone here was local, and Pearl stood out.

After settling the kids, Mr. Mitchell walked over. "Where did you come from?"

"We escaped from the north," Pearl replied.

Louis's eyes darkened. "That area is close to the war zone. You're lucky to have made it out."

The northern Eldorians were near the war zone and very poor. But here, they had RavenWing's protection. The allied troops wouldn't let them help the north anymore.

They could only protect the people here for now.

The allied troops still caused trouble, planting spies, but RavenWing always found them.

Now, another pair claiming to be refugees had arrived, and they didn't seem simple.

"The people here are luckier than us."
