Chapter 199 Embracing Death to Live

She had indeed heard of the relationship between Oscar and Haley, but with Aurora, she had never heard of it.

Aurora reminisced about the past, still finding it romantic. a time in her life when she had not experienced such excitement before. "You wouldn't understand!" She exclaimed.  "Oscar saved me, and I fell in love with him at first sight. I said back then that I would marry him when I grew up, and he agreed. He promised he would marry me! It was our pact."

Pearl found her words quite absurd.

She thought, 'Aurora must have been talking about her childhood. How could one take them?'

Moreover, Aurora claimed that Oscar had agreed, which Pearl found dubious.

Oscar probably didn't remember Aurora, just as he didn't remember Pearl.

If saving so many people became his job, it would be impossible for him to develop feelings for anyone.

She felt that not everything Aurora said was necessarily true. "Then you should ask Oscar if he remembers. Telling me is useless; I still have work to do."

Pearl had no interest in the story between Aurora and Oscar.

However, Aurora seized Pearl's hand, refusing to let her go. "Not many people know about your marriage to Oscar. It's a secret marriage. Someone who loves you would make it public. A secret marriage means Oscar doesn't love you. You're the one clinging to him, aren't you? You're so cunning!"

Pearl was taken aback by Aurora's extreme behavior, and as she was pushed to the edge, she retorted firmly, "Let go, stop being unreasonable!"

"If you don't deny it, then it's true. You used every trick to get this marriage." Aurora's eyes widened, as if she wanted to devour Pearl. "You are indeed my enemy. It's bad enough that you tried to drive a wedge between me and Sophia, but you also took Oscar away. Pearl, you deserve to die!"

Pearl was forced to retreat step by step.

If it weren't for her current pregnancy, making her cautious and unable to exert too much force, she wouldn't be in this situation.

Seeing that behind her was the sea, she was a bit worried. "I am going to divorce her. You can do whatever you want after that."

"Divorce?" Aurora paused, then sneered in disbelief, "You tried so hard to marry her. Why would you divorce him? Do you think I am a fool?."

Pearl retreated to the edge of the shore. "Then what do you want to do?"

Aurora's eyes were icy cold, yet she smiled and said, "Pearl, I've realized you're my enemy. As long as you're here, I'll never get what I want. Only if you disappear forever can I have it!"

At this moment, she thought of pushing Pearl into the sea, envisioning a world where she no longer existed.

Today, the sea was not calm with layers of fierce waves crashing down. Falling into it, there was no guarantee of living.

"Are you out of your mind?" Pearl felt a chill in her heart. "This is illegal. I have people with me. If anything happens to me, you won't get away with it!"

"Who's around to see us now?" Aurora said, "It's just you and me here, no surveillance cameras. If you accidentally fall in, what does it have to do with me? If it comes back to me, I'll find someone, pay them a bit, and they'll take the blame for me. Pearl Harris, you're still living in your naive world!"

Pearl saw that there was no one around. Her people were not here, likely sent away by Aurora with various excuses.

Pearl hadn't expected Aurora to be so extreme, willing to take her life for a promise.

Pearl struggled, not daring to use too much force, and bit Aurora's hand.

Aurora, feeling the pain, instinctively tried to shake off Pearl.

Pearl had bitten Aurora out of desperation, hoping Aurora would let go voluntarily. But Pearl was standing at the edge of the shore, she would fall into the sea and she didn't want to.

Even if she was to die,  she wanted to take Aurora with her.

As Aurora shook her hand, Pearl quickly grabbed Aurora's other hand.

In an instant, both of them fell into the sea together with a loud splash.

They struggled in the water, Aurora unable to swim, shouting, "Help!"

The strong winds and towering waves made it a perilous situation.

The waves surged, threatening to engulf their heads, while the howling winds drowned out any cries for help.

Pearl could swim, but the resistance in the sea made her efforts exhausting.

No matter how she swam, it seemed she was getting farther from the shore.

Pearl grew anxious.

She didn't want to die.

The child in her womb couldn't be harmed.

She swam desperately forward, her arms aching. Looking back at the endless sea, she felt a sense of fear.

Gradually, she couldn't swim any longer.

Pearl swallowed several mouthfuls of seawater, feeling the imminent threat of succumbing to the sea, unable to hold on any longer.

At that moment, many thoughts crossed her mind.

The child.

Her parents.

And Oscar.

Pearl hadn't had the chance to properly accompany her parents.

She hadn't divorced Oscar yet, nor had she safely given birth to her child.

Pearl had many regrets. She hoped for another life, one where she wouldn't cling to someone who didn't love her.

Pearl was so tired that she wanted to rest.

Her consciousness blurred, and she plunged into the sea.

"There's someone over there."

"Hurry, pull her up!"

"Miss, don't sleep, wake up, grab the rope!"

Suddenly, a cacophony of voices brought Pearl back to consciousness. She forced her eyes open and saw a fishing boat nearby, with people desperately throwing a rope at her.

Pearl saw the rope extended in front of her and immediately grabbed it.

But she had little strength left. Clinging to the hope of survival, she held on tightly.

Pearl was pulled onto the deck, coughing up seawater, surrounded by people checking on her condition.

"Miss, are you alright?" a woman asked with concern.

Pearl's consciousness gradually returned, and she shook her head. "I'm fine."

Being alive was enough of a blessing for her.

"That's good." The woman sighed in relief, quickly handing Pearl a cup of hot water. "How did you fall into the sea? The waves are strong today; you need to be very careful. It's a good thing our boat came by. You might not be so lucky next time. When we reach the shore, I'll take you to the hospital."

"Thank you," Pearl said, sitting up and taking a few sips of hot water, feeling warmth return to her body. "I'm fine; I don't need to go to the hospital. Once we reach the shore, I need to go home."

They were fishermen, busy with their harvest. By coincidence, they had saved Pearl's life, and she was already very grateful, not wanting to trouble them further.

At this moment, Pearl looked disheveled, soaked from head to toe.

She had swum to exhaustion in the sea, and now her muscles ached.

The fishing boat docked at a different pier.

Each pier was fenced off, and to get to the other side, she would have to take a long detour through the bustling city.

Without money or a phone on her, she had no choice but to rely on her own two legs.

Her muscles ached, and she walked slowly, completely soaked, looking like she had been through a great ordeal, drawing many curious glances.

"Ms. Garcia! Mr. Brown!"

As she passed a store, she suddenly heard a reporter's voice.

She stopped and saw a television inside the store, the volume turned up high.

Haley, dressed in a high-end cocktail dress, appeared glamorous alongside the suit-clad Oscar on the screen.
