Chapter 501 The Similarity Between the Eyebrows
Pearl was fearless, but Oscar held her hand tight.
Charles stayed quiet, but Pearl saw the anger in his eyes.
Charles was a ruler, and no one had ever dared to talk to him like that, except in war.
"Better hope you don't end up alone."
"If you want to kill her, kill me first!" Oscar cut in before Charles could finish.
Determination flashed in Oscar's eyes.
Charles didn't reply, just pressed his lips together.
He stared at Oscar for a few seconds, then turned and left.
After he was gone, Pearl grabbed Oscar's hand. "Maybe you should go back to Serenea and follow Charles's plan."
"Pearl, I wanted to wait until everything was done before finding you. Things got out of hand, and I couldn't come sooner. Now, I can't leave just because you want me to."
Oscar's throat felt tight, like something was stuck.
It felt like a blade was scraping his heart.
Pearl was worried about his safety, even if it meant they had to part.
But for him, these five years apart were torture.
He endured so much pain and hardship for Pearl.
Now she wanted him to leave; he couldn't do it.
Pearl felt a lump in her throat.
She touched Oscar's cheek, her fingers brushing the scar on his forehead, and it felt like her heart was being cut.
She didn't know how he had managed.
She'd rather be apart than see him die.
"It's not that I'm pushing you away. Oscar, I'm not naive anymore; I get it. I don't want to see you die."
"You should go back. I need to find Christopher now."
Knowing Christopher was her child, she was eager to be with him.
Oscar held her hand, their fingers interlocked. "I'll go back with you."
Pearl was silent for a moment, then said, "Okay."
Meanwhile, Christopher, usually quiet, became even more silent after Pearl's incident. Following Louis, he didn't say a word. He even refused to eat or drink.
Louis was at his wit's end and finally mentioned Pearl to comfort him. "I know you like Pearl, but she's out on business and left you with me. If you don't eat or drink and something happens to you, how will I explain it to her? When she comes back and sees you like this, do you think she'll still like you?"
When Pearl met Louis, he was a village teacher, who was good with kids, but Christopher's silence left him clueless.
The main issue was Christopher had suddenly appeared by Pearl's side. The embassy checked, and he had no background. But Louis still didn't trust him.
Until Pearl returned, Louis couldn't just throw Christopher out.
So, Louis had to coax him into eating more.
His words worked, but Christopher still didn't speak.
Louis looked at Christopher, hesitated, and then called Jeffery.
Jeffery quickly answered, "Mr. Mitchell."
Louis said, "Pearl helped a little boy, but he doesn't speak. I think something's wrong. Are you in Serenea? If so, come take a look."
Since Pearl came to Serenea as a war correspondent, Jeffery had set up a small clinic to treat locals.
Knowing Jeffery's dedication to Pearl, RavenWing had helped him resume a normal identity.
"I'll be right there."
Jeffery was usually busy at the clinic but always made time for Pearl. However, she was often busy, and he didn't want to show up uninvited.
He had texted Pearl, but she hadn't replied. Knowing she was busy, he didn't want to disturb her, but since Louis called, he would definitely show up.
After all, Louis was Pearl's brother.
Jeffery arrived within half an hour. Seeing Christopher, his brow furrowed slightly.
Louis noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"
Jeffery thought Christopher looked a lot like Pearl as a child.
However, the child Pearl had given birth to was declared stillborn, and Oscar had been dead for five years. If the child hadn't died, Oscar wouldn't have let Pearl be separated from her child.
"Did you find something?" Louis asked, seeing Jeffery's reaction. His expression darkened.
Jeffery stopped his thoughts. "I just think he looks a lot like Carol."
Louis's heart sank.
He turned to look at Christopher, scrutinizing him. He had been wary of Christopher's sudden appearance by Pearl's side, so he had only suspected his identity without closely examining him.
Another thing was that all of Pearl's childhood photos were missing, and over time, memories could fade.
Otherwise, Kevin wouldn't have brought Haley to impersonate Carol back then.
Now, hearing Jeffery's words, Louis's memories were triggered. Memories are like that; sometimes, you can't recall them unless you deliberately try.
And indeed, the child in front of him did resemble Pearl.
If Oscar wasn't dead, maybe the child wasn't either. Louis couldn't wait. "Then quickly do a paternity test between me and him!"
Pearl wasn't here, but as her brother, their blood relationship could be verified.
Jeffery took a deep breath. "It's better to let Pearl do the test."
"Pearl was taken by Tranquiloria's army for investigation."
Because of this, he couldn't rescue her, as he was only considered an ally.
Jeffery remained silent, but as he was about to speak, Louis interrupted, "Don't you know that Pearl's identity has been exposed?"
