Chapter 727 Revocation
At the police station, Desiree saw Daryl again.
He spotted Desiree and Harold standing together, his eyes bloodshot, and tried to rush over, but the police stopped him just in time.
He could only shout, "Desiree, how could you betray me? You two are already divorced, are you really going to get back together with him? Why are you hurting me like this?"
Anyone who didn't know better might actually think he was deeply in love and that Desiree had wronged him!
"Get this straight, we were just friends, not even lovers. You crossed the line. And Harold and I haven't received our divorce decree yet. Even if we did get divorced and then remarried, what does that have to do with you? It's my choice," Desiree said coldly.
Just because Daryl liked her didn't mean she had to reciprocate.
What, was she supposed to stick around until he got bored and then leave quietly?
She wasn't Santa Claus, here to grant Daryl's wishes!
"Desiree, I won't allow you two to be together. You can't do this. He's not right for you. Have you forgotten about the child? That was your own flesh and blood," Daryl said, trying to provoke her.
He didn't care if it caused Desiree pain; in fact, he hoped it would hurt her more.
That way, she wouldn't be with Harold.
Desiree placed a hand on her stomach. "To be honest, I'm pregnant again. The child is Harold's. The one we lost has come back."
Harold's eyes widened.
He looked at Desiree's stomach in disbelief. There was a child there?
And it was their love's creation.
Daryl was even more incredulous. He stared at Desiree's belly, wishing he could burn a hole through it. It must have been that one night. If Harold hadn't taken advantage, the child would have been his!
He regretted not hitting Desiree's stomach earlier to cause a miscarriage. Without the child, they wouldn't be together.
Though he didn't say these thoughts out loud, Desiree could see it in his eyes. "Give it up. Everything you just did was recorded. The evidence is clear. You're going to jail."
"There were no cameras in the alley!" Daryl's first reaction was to accuse her of lying.
An elderly woman nearby spat at him. "No cameras, but I know how to use a phone. I recorded it. Bullying a woman, shameless!"
Daryl had no way to deny it now.
The situation escalated to Liam and Tessa, and even the Fields family.
Tate and Bronte personally came to apologize, offering financial compensation, but the Sandvik family didn't need the money. Liam was determined to protect Desiree. "He'll serve the full term that the court decides. Trying to bribe me won't work. I'll keep an eye on him, and if you try anything, I'll report it."
Tate and Bronte quickly decided to abandon Daryl.
Though he was their only child, wealthy families always have contingencies.
Years ago, they had frozen embryos at a hospital in case they lost Daryl. Now, they could use them. Daryl was done for, but they could have another child.
"He can serve his time, and when he's done, we'll send him abroad. He'll never appear in front of your daughter again. We only ask that you keep this quiet to protect both our reputations," Tate negotiated.
His only concern was the Fields family's reputation. As for Daryl, he could fend for himself abroad.
He would ensure Daryl had no chance to sneak back.
"Agreed," Liam said. "I'll keep an eye on him too. If he comes back, our agreement is void. I have all the evidence saved."
Even if Liam hadn't said it, Tate knew.
The Fields and Sandvik families were equally powerful, and the Sandviks were close with Oscar. Only a fool would push things to the breaking point.
With Daryl's issue resolved, Desiree went back to her routine, except she often ran into Harold.
Harold didn't approach or bother her, just silently appeared nearby.
After three days, Desiree couldn't take it anymore. She got into his car. "Let's go."
"Where to?"
"To court, of course. I left work early today. The court's still open. We can get divorced."
Harold's foot was on the gas pedal, but he pulled it back and turned off the car.
Desiree asked, "Weren't you waiting for me? Now that I'm here, why aren't we going?"
"The car's broken. Not my fault," Harold said innocently.
Desiree saw through him but didn't call him out. "Fine. I wanted you to take me home, but I guess I'll have to call a cab."
Before she finished, Harold started the car and headed toward the Sandvik house.
"You said the car was broken?"
"It was. Now it's fixed."
"You just don't want to divorce me," Desiree's heart softened.
Actually, they didn't have to divorce. All the problems were solved.
Even if they did, she didn't want another man and didn't want the child to be fatherless. She'd still have to deal with Harold.
So why fight it?
"You're right. I don't want a divorce." At a red light, Harold turned to her. "This car's funny. It won't start if you mention court."
"Let's just go home. I don't want a divorce either," Desiree smiled. "We're good as we are."
When the light turned green, Harold immediately turned the car toward the court.
Desiree was puzzled until he said, "Let's quickly cancel the divorce before the staff leaves."
Desiree couldn't help but chuckle.
The car stalled for divorce but sped up to cancel it.
The same clerk from their registration day was on duty. As they processed the paperwork, she smiled. "Are you sure? If you cancel, you'll have to reschedule if you want to divorce again."
"We're sure. We're not divorcing," Harold said firmly.
He was bound to Desiree for life, never to part.
Desiree nodded. "It's our joint decision. I'm sure."
