Chapter 357 Don't Run Around

Pearl was puzzled by Oscar's words.

"I don't really know." She was amazed by all she knew.

Kevin had vanished into the raging waterfall.

They couldn't find any trace of him for now.

So, they had to retrace their steps.

The lab was a mess, but not much had changed.

Oscar thought about the stuff inside and hesitated. "Maybe you shouldn't go in."

"Why not?" Pearl asked. "Didn't you just ask if I knew the mechanisms inside? I need to go in to find out."

Oscar frowned. "The stuff in there is pretty disturbing."

"That's what you're worried about?" Pearl got it. "I've heard so many crazy things by now, nothing can scare me anymore."

She eased Oscar's worries as she was still strong inside.

Walking in, she was shocked by the lab's cruelty.

She saw human organs, probably for experiments.

There were also deformed animals from failed tests.

Chimpanzees were caged, crying, with self-mutilated fingers bleeding.

The lab smelled awful, a mix of blood and chemicals, making her nauseous.

"Jeffery." Pearl saw Jeffery in the center, holding a test tube with gloved hands, examining it.

Jeffery turned around, relieved to see Pearl was okay. "Glad you're safe, but there's bad news. These test tubes aren't the real drugs; they might be fakes."

"Fakes?" Oscar's face turned serious.

Jeffery said, "This is Kevin's lab. The drugs aren't here, and they couldn't have gone far. They should be nearby."

"The underground tunnel."

They thought of this spot.

With many mechanisms, it was the best place to hide things.

Pearl looked at where Kevin had escaped, then walked over and pressed a switch.

The ground sank, revealing stairs.

Without thinking, Pearl was about to go down, but Oscar grabbed her hand.

Pearl looked back. "Didn't it open?"

Oscar said, "You shouldn't go first."

He pulled her back and stood in front of her.

If there was danger, he didn't want Pearl hurt.

Seeing this, Pearl listened.

Elijah, worried about Oscar, said, "Oscar, let me go first."

They wanted to protect Oscar too.

Oscar looked at them coldly. "No need!"

Elijah didn't insist.

Oscar held Pearl's hand tightly, slowly going down the stairs, guiding her.

Nervous, Pearl clung to him, forgetting their strained relationship.

The path ahead was dark, and those who had chased Kevin stopped here.

They didn't dare move, unable to see well.

Every step Pearl took was a battle with herself; the suffocating darkness was heavy, making her heart tremble.

"It'll be okay," Oscar comforted her softly. "Once we get through, it'll be fine."

With his encouragement, Pearl calmed a bit, until she heard hollow footsteps. She immediately became alert. "Don't move!"

Oscar stopped immediately.

Pearl saw a faint light ahead, guiding her.

She was also afraid it was a dead end.

Her hand touched the wall and found a protruding button.

She pressed it, and an arrow shot out, lodging in a stone crack.

Then the lights came on.

Pearl was surprised. In the dim light, the stone walls looked ordinary but hid many secrets.

Oscar looked at her. "You really know your stuff."

Pearl stayed silent, moving by instinct.

She bypassed many mechanisms.

After navigating the guarded path, they reached a secret room.

"There must be something valuable here!" someone behind said.

"What does it say up there?"

They saw text on the secret room.

None of them could understand it.

This obscure language was unfamiliar to most.

Pearl didn't understand it well either.

She opened the secret room, and cold air rushed out, revealing another lab.

Inside was a complete set of equipment, with various drugs beside it.

Seeing this, Jeffery thought this must be the real storage place for the drugs.

"This is it," Jeffery said confidently.

Oscar asked, "Can you find it?"

Jeffery replied, "I need to run some tests. Leave it to me."

"Okay, thank you," Oscar said seriously.

"It's no trouble. It's valuable experience for me too." Jeffery, being a doctor, was very interested in these drugs. Despite his ties with The Crimson Eclipse Society, it was crucial for his medical milestones.

He wanted to know how the antidote was made.

He could free himself from RavenWing's control and help more people.

"It's cold here, let's go up," Oscar said to Pearl as he walked out. "We've noted the mechanisms, there won't be any problems."

Pearl was staring at the incomprehensible text.

She snapped out of it, looked at Oscar, and replied, "Okay."

Pearl came up from the underground tunnel, and the scene had been mostly cleaned up.

She got back in the car, and Oscar immediately covered her with a blanket. "Wait here for me, I'll come find you after I handle the rest."

Pearl looked at Oscar, who was standing beside her, and nodded vigorously.

Oscar was still worried. "You have to be good, don't run around!"

"I know," Pearl responded.

Oscar was still uneasy, so he had Nicholas watch her, otherwise, he couldn't focus on his work.

After arranging everything, Oscar left.

Pearl rolled down the car window. Nicholas stood by her side, and she saw Haley in another car not far away, clinging to the door and refusing to leave. "Let me go. I'm Haley, Oscar's fiancée. I'm a big star. How can you treat me like this? Take me to Oscar!"

Haley's eyes were red from crying, and she was hysterical.

She was kicking and biting.

With no choice, they decided to tie Haley up.

However, Haley struggled desperately. "Why are you tying me up? I didn't do anything wrong, it's you who are wrong!"

Seeing Haley like this, Pearl was momentarily dazed, then felt it unnecessary to look at her.

"Ms. Harris, Oscar said you can't run around!" Nicholas reminded.

"I'm not," Pearl said. "I'm just going to step out for a walk. You can follow me."
