Chapter 92 Not Like Himself

Pearl cleaned Oscar's wound with disinfectant and then wrapped it up.
After a while, Harold parked the car by the side of the road.
Pearl helped Oscar get in the car and glanced at Adrian.
Oscar could feel from her gaze that she seemed to care about Adrian.
Adrian said gently, "You go back first. President Oscar is injured, take care of him."
He understood Pearl very well and knew what she needed to do. Oscar was her boss and naturally, she had to be concerned about his safety.
Pearl waved at him and said, "Then I'll go back first. Thank you for taking me out today."
"You're welcome," Adrian said.
The car door closed.
Harold was initially about to get in the car immediately. He thought for a moment, then smiled and walked over to Adrian, apologizing, "CEO Adrian, I'm sorry for the trouble."
He then politely took the Lotso doll from Adrian.
This toy was won by Oscar to give to Pearl, it couldn't be taken by others.
Harold had never seen Oscar care so much about Pearl before.
Adrian watched the car leave. His expression was calm, showing no emotions.
At that moment, his phone rang.
A text message came in.
It read: [Dinner is ready. When will you come back?]
Adrian put away his phone and headed in the opposite direction.
When they returned home, Pearl was worried that the darts that injured Oscar might have rust on them. She called a family doctor to come over.
The doctor gave him a tetanus shot.
Oscar thought about how she would always be with Adrian when she had nothing else to do. He asked tentatively, "Was it just a coincidence that you met Adrian again this time?"

It really was just a coincidence this time.

Pearl replied, "We're just friends. What can we do when we meet? It was after work hours, so it didn't affect our jobs."

Oscar coldly said, "You consider him a friend, but does he consider you a friend?"

Pearl firmly stated, "We're just friends."

She had been by his side for many years and had no other friends besides Janetta. It seemed like she hadn't made any friends in society other than her classmates.

She wanted to change her way of life. She didn't want to revolve around Oscar like she used to.

While she was determined, Oscar didn't think so and said sharply, "You're my wife, keep your distance from other men."

"Why do you only ask that of me and not yourself? When will you keep your distance from Haley?" Pearl stared at Oscar and countered.

Oscar coldly replied, "Those two things are different!"

She retorted, "But I think the nature of them is the same."

Pearl remained calm and thought to herself, 'Since you can't do it, you shouldn't expect me to do it either. I've done enough already.'

She then added, "I don't have many friends, especially male friends. If we divorce, I have the right to pursue happiness. You can't expect me to not make friends."

Hearing this, Oscar clenched his fist, suppressing his anger.

He thought, 'Does she feel like she lost her freedom after marrying me?

Or is Adrian going to be her new target after the divorce?'

Oscar stared at Pearl, not saying a word. He only squinted slightly, suppressing his anger.

--

The following day, as part of the city beautification efforts, a team of sanitation workers was dispatched to clean the streets.

Coincidentally, the charity event organized by the Brown Group was still ongoing. Wherever the Brown Group had jurisdiction, they dispatched volunteers to distribute bottled water to the passing workers.

Hundreds of cases of water had been stockpiled in the warehouse in anticipation of the event.

Pearl was counting in the warehouse and asked someone to report to Oscar.

Coincidentally, Oscar had just returned from outside and had a cold expression as he listened to the report.

"President Oscar, I've already arranged for someone to deliver the water on time at 1 pm."

Oscar looked toward Pearl, who was busy not far away, and coldly called out, "Secretary Pearl."

Pearl hurried over. "Yes, President Oscar?"

He calmly said, "If you're free this afternoon, come with us."

The collective surprise was palpable. Carrying water was grueling and demanding labor, typically reserved for men.

Pearl stood out as the lone woman in the group, facing the scorching heat while still clad in a dress and high heels. Such attire made it inconvenient for her to squat or walk comfortably, rendering the task unsuitable for her.

However, nobody dared to defy Oscar's directive. Despite the impracticality, Pearl acquiesced to the arrangement, reluctantly stating, "Okay, President Oscar."

"Mmm."

Oscar didn't look at her again and indifferently walked toward the office.

"Pearl, I'll accompany you." Queenie wanted to share the burden with her.

"No need," Pearl said. "The staff is enough. You stay in the office."

It was the sweltering peak of the day, around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, yet the sanitation workers were still toiling away on the road.

With a box of water in hand, Pearl made her way toward them, perspiration already dotting her brow after just a short distance.

One by one, she distributed the water to the workers, many of whom were older. Their expressions softened with gratitude as they thanked her for her kindness.

"Miss, since this is a charity event, why don't you give us some water?"

A few men passing by were strangers. They saw Pearl wearing a dress and stockings inside, so they had a biased perspective of her. They used the excuse to get water to flirt with her.

Pearl knew what they were looking at and took a few steps back, frowning. "The water is for the sanitation workers."

"You're treating us differently."

The men looked Pearl up and down.

Pearl didn't like being stared at like this. She angrily said, "Can you understand the big words on our car? We only distribute water to the sanitation workers!"

They wanted to continue harassing Pearl, but a voice rang out, "What are you guys doing!"

Most of the staff distributing water were men.

When they saw Pearl being harassed, they came to stop them.

Those men became afraid and quickly left.

"Secretary Pearl, are you okay?" a colleague asked with concern.

"I'm fine. Let's finish distributing here so we can go off work." Pearl wiped her sweat.

Coincidentally, someone's gaze was fixed on all of this.

In the office, a man wearing a suit with fair skin and handsome looks glanced at Oscar and couldn't help but smile, "Oscar, why are you staring here? Go down and keep an eye on things."

He was Oscar's friend.

Oscar stood by the window, but his gaze was fixed on the outside.

He watched Pearl working hard downstairs.

She went to give water to the sanitation workers and was very polite. She wouldn't look down on them because of the difference in their positions.

But a few rude passersby would go and harass her.

He became even more unhappy when he saw someone staring at Pearl.

"You don't need to worry about me," Oscar glanced at the man and said coldly.

"You didn't come to our gathering yesterday because of your so-called wife, right?" Daniel Murphy said, sipping his wine.

Oscar had promised to go drinking with him yesterday but stood him up halfway through.

Oscar found himself perplexed by his own feelings, unsure of what was happening to him.

In the past, he had paid little attention to Pearl's actions or words, never bothering to spare her a second glance.

Yet now, he felt a twinge of irritation at one of her remarks—a departure from his usual indifference. He felt like he was losing himself.
