Chapter 377 He Became Irritable
She showed no remorse and still wanted Oscar to see Pearl's true colors.
Oscar, expressionless, walked up to her and coldly asked, "Who let you in?"
Hathaway replied, "I'm your mother. Why can't I come in?"
She spoke as if it were obvious.
Oscar's lips tightened, his eyes icy, filled with anger.
It was the first time Hathaway had seen Oscar like this. She was shocked, a chill running down her spine.
"You came here to burn down my house?" Oscar's eyes grew even colder.
Hathaway, who had been self-righteous, now changed her tone. "I just wanted to teach Pearl a lesson. I didn't mean to burn down the house. Oscar, how could I cause you trouble?"
"You not only wanted to burn down the house but also harm Pearl and her unborn child!" Oscar's voice was icy, devoid of any warmth. "You're so arrogant. Do you really think I won't do anything to you?"
His cold words made Hathaway tremble inside. "Oscar!"
Oscar's chest heaved, his clenched fists trembling, and a hint of blood-red in his eyes. He sneered. "And now you want me to stand up for you? Do you have any shame at all?"
Hathaway became more subdued. "Oscar, I'm your mother."
"Don't say that! I'm not your son, am I?" Oscar's tone grew heavier, his lips curling into a cold smile. "If anything happens to Pearl today, how do you plan to die?"
Hathaway's face turned pale, unable to believe this was Oscar. "Even if you're not my biological son, you grew up in the Brown family. I raised you. How did you become like this?"
Pearl stood not far away, hearing Oscar's harsh tone, and thought it was too much.
And the way he looked at Hathaway was very unusual.
She could confront Hathaway, but Oscar was usually indifferent and ignored her. Today, he seemed unusually hostile.
It felt like he wanted to execute Hathaway on the spot.
Pearl was worried, afraid he might actually do something. After all, Hathaway was still his nominal mother.
In the past, no matter how excessive she was, Oscar would turn a blind eye.
Just as Oscar was about to approach Hathaway, Pearl grabbed his hand. "Oscar, let the police handle this."
Oscar acted as if he didn't hear her and forcefully shook off Pearl's hand.
His strength was too much, making Pearl stumble back a few steps and almost twist her ankle.
Oscar seemed to realize this and looked back at Pearl, somewhat shocked, his eyes softening. "Pearl."
He immediately went to support her.
Pearl's belly was large, making her movements slow, but she was fine.
If she hadn't steadied herself, she might have fallen to the ground.
But Oscar's reaction was too abnormal.
Not only with Hathaway, but even with her, his emotions were so intense.
But when she looked up at Oscar, his eyes were normal at this moment, filled only with concern for her, which made Pearl doubt herself.
"Are you okay?" Oscar asked, holding her waist with concern. "Are you hurt? Would sitting down make you feel better?"
Pearl gazed into his deep eyes, temporarily putting aside those strange thoughts. "I'm fine."
She looked at Hathaway and said, "Take her to the police station. Let the law handle it."
She was also thinking about Oscar. She feared that his overreaction might affect his future.
He wasn't just the CEO of the Brown Group; he was also an officer and couldn't afford any blemishes on his record.
She wouldn't let anything affect him.
Oscar said, "I'll do as you say."
He turned to the others and said, "Take her away!"
Hathaway panicked when she saw Oscar not helping her. "Oscar, how can you listen to her? I'm your mother, and you want to send me to jail? How can you do this?"
Her emotions grew more intense, all her hatred directed at Pearl. "Pearl, I won't let you off. If you make things difficult for me and Haley, I won't let you off."
She cursed and threatened Pearl, but she couldn't escape being taken to the police station.
Finally, the entire house fell silent.
Oscar looked at the charred floor and said to Pearl, "Let's not stay here. I'll take you somewhere more comfortable."
"It's okay," Pearl said. "It's just a bit burnt. We can fix it. No need to trouble you."
Oscar replied, "As long as you're comfortable, it's no trouble."
"No need," Pearl insisted. "I'll stay here."
Oscar didn't push it, just arranged for repairs and tightened security. No one could see Pearl without thorough checks, not even relatives.
Everything was for Pearl.
But Pearl had questions. After he finished giving instructions, she asked, "Did you release Haley?"
Oscar turned back and answered, "Yes. What's wrong?"
Pearl's face changed. "You know she has ties to The Crimson Eclipse Society. Why did you do that? It's unfair to those who died!"
Oscar continued in a gentle tone. "We don't have concrete evidence yet."
Pearl became anxious. "What counts as evidence? Seeing her kill someone with our own eyes? You know she's Kevin's daughter and poisoned me. Why can't that be evidence? Does it only count if we see it ourselves?"
Oscar tried to calm her down. "Don't get too worked up. Be careful of the baby."
He reached out to touch her belly, but Pearl pushed his hand away. "You're just reluctant to see her suffer. It was like this before, and it's the same now. What's the difference? She'll keep harassing me! She'll find every way to disrupt my life! Your mother came to burn the house today; it must have been her doing!"
"Do you have evidence?" Oscar retorted.
Pearl looked at him. "Isn't this evidence? As soon as Haley's scandal broke, she saw me as an obstacle. She wants my life. How can I let her keep harming me?"
"Why did you do it then?" Oscar asked. "Are the reports true? If you don't have evidence, you'll face a lawsuit too!"
Pearl said coldly, "I am the evidence. How is that not enough? You're just protecting her! Oscar, you say you love me, but you still have her in your heart, don't you?"
"No."
"Really? Then why are you defending her and letting her out?" Pearl's voice grew louder. "She deserves to be in jail. You released her to torment me. If anything happens to me or the baby, it's on you!"
"I told you, I didn't!" Oscar shouted back, equally agitated.
Hearing his tone, Pearl looked at him in a daze.
Realizing his mistake, Oscar was at a loss. He stepped forward, grabbing Pearl's hand to explain, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have raised my voice."
Pearl, still furious, struggled against his grip.
"You're hurting me!" Pearl cried out.
