Chapter 197 Timid Husband Under the Wife's Thumb

Just as he encountered Pearl, Harold stopped and said, "Mrs. Brown, Mr. Brown has invited you for dinner...."

Harold noticed the tears in Pearl's eyes and realized they had quarreled. He said to Pearl, "Mrs. Brown, no matter what conflict you had with Mr. Brown, he has regretted it. Look, these are the flowers Mr. Brown bought for you."

Harold wanted to mend their relationship.

He had been by Oscar's side for many years, and Oscar had never thought of buying flowers for anyone.

Oscar did not understand the things couples should do.

It wasn't that Harold didn't understand; he just felt that no woman could make Oscar act that way.

The fact that Oscar was willing to spend effort on Pearl showed that he still cared about her.

Pearl looked at the flowers in Harold's hand and smiled faintly. "Didn't I tell you to call me Pearl? Why are you calling me Mrs. Brown again? Soon, I won't be Mrs. Brown anymore, we are just colleagues. As for these flowers, Mr. Brown should give them to someone important to him."

"No, Mrs. Brown, aren't you the most important person to Mr. Brown?" Harold said, but Pearl insisted on walking away, showing no expectations for Oscar.

Pearl was now just waiting to divorce Oscar and be apart from him peacefully.

"Mrs. Brown." Harold saw her hurrying away and looked back at Oscar, saying, "Mr. Brown, should you go after her? Mrs. Brown is upset."

Harold was more anxious than Oscar.

He was worried about repairing their marriage.

Oscar fell into thought and asked, "Did you see the tears in Pearl's eyes just now?"

Harold replied, "Yes, Mrs. Brown must be feeling very upset."

Oscar said, "I said all. Why is she still crying? Is being with me making her very uncomfortable?"

"Impossible!" Harold said anxiously. "Women need to be coaxed. Just coax her, and it'll be fine. Mr. Brown, you should take the flowers and chase her, be persistent!"

Oscar looked at Harold coldly. "Persist? That sounds more like you."

Oscar had never done such a thing in his life.

It was impossible for him.

Harold sighed. Oscar excelled at everything, but why was he so clueless in matters of the heart?

Especially with Pearl, he always couldn't find the right way. Harold patiently advised, "Mr. Brown, just listen to me this time. Take these flowers and give them to Mrs. Brown. Girls always want to feel valued."

"I was so humble just now, isn't that enough?" Oscar said indifferently, still angry. "I invited her for dinner, and she went to meet Janetta. I spoke humbly, and she still did so impolitely. I need my dignity."

"But..." Harold was left speechless by Oscar.

The missed appointment still made Oscar angry.

He tried to talk to her calmly, but Pearl didn't give him a friendly attitude.

This wasn't Oscar's fault.

"Throw these flowers in the trash!" Oscar said, looking at the flowers with anger.

After saying that, Oscar also hurried away.

He didn't go home.

He had invited Pearl to have dinner, wanting to surprise her, just to mend their marriage.

He didn't want a divorce, but Pearl didn't accept it.

This made him very frustrated, not knowing how to solve it.

He thought Pearl should be easy to talk to, given her good temper. In the past, a little coaxing would suffice, but now nothing seemed to work.

He had run out of patience!

He took off his suit, yanked off his tie, and tossed it aside, then downed a large glass of whiskey.

Drinking hastily, the liquor trickled down his chin, his Adam's apple bobbing, and it dripped onto his shirt.

"Oscar, what’s got you so worked up?" James, sitting across from him, asked.

At that moment, they were in a nightclub.

Sitting in a booth, the music was loud and vibrant, with seductive dancers on stage. Many people were spending their evenings in the club.

The atmosphere was quite noisy.

Oscar had come to the appointment only because he was feeling troubled, but he had no interest in this kind of life.

Such a lifestyle was more in line withJames's daily routine.

"Nothing." Oscar didn't want to talk about the conflict between him and Pearl, so he sat with a sullen face, lost in thought.

James sipped his red wine, holding a woman in his arms, and smirked, "Having trouble with your wife again?"

"Impossible," Quincy said knowingly. "Oscar never suffers a loss, it can't be."

James added, "Quincy, don't underestimate Pearl. Last time, Oscar got jealous just because he saw her talking to another man. I saw it with my own eyes."

Quincy didn't fully understand, "Do married people have to be so strict?"

"Shut up!" Oscar shouted, hearing their mocking words.

James naturally shut his mouth.

But everyone could see that Oscar's marital status was not normal.

He had never been this emotionally out of control.

In the past, he could go three days without coming home and never mention Pearl.

Now, even while sitting here, Pearl was clearly on his mind.

"Nathaniel isn't here, otherwise, he could analyze it for you. After all, he's a lawyer and often deals with emotional disputes," James said again.

Quincy said, "What's the big deal? It would be better if Oscar got drunk. I could call his wife like last time, and she would be worried."

They were having a lively discussion, which made Oscar even more annoyed. He hadn't mentioned Pearl's name, but every sentence was about her. He said, "Who said this has anything to do with Pearl?"

"Well, that's even better." Quincy suggested, "Since it's about relaxing. Get a few more ladies to accompany you!"

"No need!" Oscar showed no interest.

Quincy snapped his fingers.

A group of women approached, ready for their selection.

Oscar was engrossed in drinking, preoccupied and unhappy, not even lifting his head.

One woman boldly threw herself into his arms.

Oscar immediately pushed her away.

Seeing the heavily made-up woman, he felt a wave of disgust and coldly said, "Get lost!"

The woman was visibly startled and dared not take another step forward.

James then looked at the woman and gently said, "You can't touch him; he's a married man, very loyal."

This time, Oscar didn't drink much, but he returned home very late.

Perhaps he didn't want to face Pearl.

Their interactions now mostly revolved around divorce.

He didn't want to face that.

At this hour, Pearl was still awake. Upon hearing the engine noise, she turned off her phone.

Initially pretending to be asleep, she smelled alcohol as Oscar entered, feeling a bit nauseous.

Oscar came in, took off his jacket, and seeing she was still awake, said in a hoarse voice, "Still up this late?"

"Did you drink?"

"Yes," Oscar replied softly.

Pearl also smelled a hint of perfume, but she didn't think much of it, knowing he frequented such places for social engagements.

Oscar went to the bathroom.

She got up, and picked up his jacket and shirt, intending to send them for dry cleaning the next day.

Then, she saw a lipstick stain on his shirt.
